LUCY GALLANT Channels Grief, Betrayal and Toxicity Into Intense New Single Venom
Venom arrives September 25 ahead of Lucy Gallant’s five-track EP Forbidden Fruit, out October 9
Byron Bay-based singer-songwriter Lucy Gallant unveils Venom, her most intense and emotionally charged release to date. Produced by award-winning producer Josh Beattie, the cinematic pop anthem blends sweeping orchestral strings with Gallant’s most commanding vocal performance to date, creating a haunting and emotionally immersive listening experience.
But behind the music lies an intensely personal story.
Written after losing both of her parents just six months apart during the COVID-19 pandemic, Venom explores not only the devastating grief of losing the two people who made her feel safe, but the painful reality of what followed.
“I thought losing my parents would be the hardest part, but I wasn’t prepared for what came next. Without them there to protect or guide me, I suddenly found myself navigating unimaginable grief while also dealing with conflict, intimidation and unexpected behaviour from people who were meant to love and support me. At the very moment I needed kindness the most, I felt frightened, exposed and completely alone.”
Lucy says writing Venom helped her make sense of an experience that many people quietly endure after the death of a loved one.
“I’ve since realised that many people go through something similar after a death. When someone dies, grief, wills and unresolved family tensions can expose sides of people you never knew existed. It can feel like the snakes come out to play. That’s exactly where the inspiration for Venom came from.”
Through striking imagery and powerful storytelling, Venom explores betrayal, manipulation and the lasting scars of toxic behaviour during one of life’s most vulnerable moments. Lyrics such as “You’ve won the battle as you’re perched upon his grave” and “As you spin your dirty web of lies, even in the darkness there is still no place to hide” paint a haunting portrait of grief, betrayal and ultimately, resilience.
“Venom isn’t just about grief, it’s about what happens when you’re already carrying the deepest pain imaginable and someone deliberately adds to it. It’s about feeling poisoned by another person’s actions at a time when you’re completely vulnerable. I wrote this song to take that poison and transform it into something powerful instead of letting it destroy me. It’s about refusing to let someone else’s venom become your own.”
While born from one of the darkest chapters of her life, Venom ultimately emerges as an anthem of resilience, survival and reclaiming your power.
The accompanying music video, premiering October 3, 2026, amplifies Venom’s symbolism through two striking natural landscapes. Filmed on a Byron Bay beach at sunset, Gallant appears goddess-like in a Medusa-inspired crown of snakes, embodying both the beauty and danger of venom as she dances and performs against the dramatic coastal backdrop.
In a second setting beside a tea-tree lake, Gallant is immersed in the wild landscape, delivering a raw and intensely emotional performance directly to camera. Together, the contrasting scenes evoke vulnerability, toxicity, feminine power and transformation, mirroring the emotional journey at the heart of the song.

Venom is the final single leading into Lucy Gallant’s forthcoming five-track EP, Forbidden Fruit, out October 9, 2026. The EP brings together five songs exploring temptation, heartbreak, empowerment, resilience and transformation, with Venom completing the collection as its final previously unheard track.

MIRIAM LIEBERMAN RETURNS WITH TRANSCENDENTAL NEW SINGLE BRIDGE IN TIME
A hypnotic meeting point of lush contemporary folk and magnetic dynamics, Sydney-based singer-songwriter Miriam Lieberman returns today with a stunning single Bridge In Time, commencing a new creative chapter that will ultimately culminate in the release of her upcoming full-length album, also titled Bridge In Time, which is set for release in February 2027.
Blending plucked kora, a sensual hand-drum groove, shimmering strings and soaring three-part harmonies, Bridge In Time effortlessly swells from delicate textures into an expansive, uplifting chorus, buoyed by Miriam’s crystalline vocals that detail the powerful ability of love to thread through time, as Miriam elaborates, “The song is about love as something that travels through time – something we receive from those who came before us, carry within us, and pass on.”
“I became fascinated by the extraordinary chance of our lives intersecting at all,” she adds. “We exist among billions of people, across this enormous universe and this vast stretch of time, and yet somehow we find ourselves here, at this particular moment, alongside the people we love. There’s something miraculous about that to me.”
“It’s also about recognising that what we’ve been given doesn’t disappear. The love, wisdom and connection we inherit become part of who we are and what we carry forward. That’s really the heart of the refrain: Love is a bridge in time / we carry it on.”
Written by Miriam herself, Bridge In Time saw her team up with long-time collaborators Lara Goodridge and Susie Bishop, both playing violin and contributing to the standout interlaced harmonies, along with Miriam performing lead vocals and kora. And also returning to work with another long-time collaborator to bring Bridge In Time to life, Miriam’s latest track was produced, engineered, mixed and mastered by Josh Schuberth (Josh Pyke, The Whitlams, Dustin Tebbutt, Fanny Lumsden, Troy Cassar-Daley), with Josh taking on the remaining instrumentation, and his hand-drum groove ultimately becoming a defining part of the end result of Bridge In Time.
A gifted storyteller and sonic alchemist, Miriam Lieberman’s artistry pairs her distinctive, emotive voice with poetic songwriting and a signature brand of contemporary folk. Threading her work with intimate observations that span love, connection, nature and our place in the world, Miriam’s sound is ultimately rooted in modern folk and singer-songwriter traditions, with the kora, a traditional stringed instrument from Western Africa, as the dazzling centrepiece to her songwriting after spending significant periods living and studying music in West Africa.

TILLY FENTON SHARES EVOCATIVE NEW SINGLE + MUSIC VIDEO REARVIEW
TAKEN FROM UPCOMING NEW EP SERENDIPITY DUE OUT NOVEMBER 27
Renowned for her immersive artistry and sparkling songwriting, today Melbourne/Naarm indie pop artist Tilly Fenton kickstarts a stunning new chapter, announcing the upcoming release of her sophomore EP, Serendipity, due out on November 27. Accompanying the announcement today, Tilly has also unveiled a new single and music video, the EP’s closing track, Rearview.
An emotionally-fuelled slice of driving indie pop, Rearview balances nostalgia and vulnerability with glimmers of hope, complete with Tilly’s magnetic vocals and confessional charm. “It honestly feels really cathartic and slightly nerve wracking to be releasing Rearview,” Tilly enthuses. “In comparison to some of my other songs, Rearview feels vulnerable, and while writing it I definitely bared my soul in the process. It feels a little scary putting those emotions out into the world so openly, especially because my releases this year have been more carefree and fun, and there was a small part of me that was hesitant to release it because the lyrics are so raw and dramatic. I really hope that people can relate to the song and maybe even use it as a way to let out all of those bittersweet, yearning and frustrating feelings that come with wanting to move on but still having so much left unsaid.”
Teaming up with producer Michael Belsar and co-writer Anna Leeworthy to bring Rearview to life, the track’s accompanying video also seamlessly reflects the lyrical content, with Tilly working with director Michelle Pitiris, aka She Is Aphrodite (Vance Joy, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers) and produced by Echoes Agency, to inject raw vulnerability into the end result. “I actually found it quite challenging to come up with a concept at first, because I’m so used to portraying myself in a more fun and carefree light,” Tilly explains. “Once I started working with my collaborator Michelle Pitiris though, it all fell into place. She brought so many great ideas to the table, and I think she totally nailed the creative direction.”
“The concept is all about looking back on a relationship and feeling haunted by those memories. We used distorted mirrors, blurry shots and slightly surreal imagery to capture that feeling of being stuck between trying to move forward and still looking back. There’s also a much messier and more raw side of me throughout the visualiser, which felt really fitting for the emotion of the song and that feeling of trying to hold yourself together when everything feels a little bit all over the place”.
Taken from Tilly’s upcoming sophomore EP, Rearview sets the stage for the broader magic lying in wait throughout Serendipity, with the EP ultimately detailing the emotions and experiences that comes with navigating your early 20s. “There’s a lot about falling for people, losing those feelings, getting your heart broken, having fun with your girlfriends, feeling really confident in yourself one minute and then completely doubting yourself the next,” Tilly reveals, “and it’s really just trying to figure it all out as you go. Every song is kind of a different little snapshot of my life at the time, from the really fun and exciting moments to the ones where I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I think overall, Serendipity is really just about taking all of those moments as they come and finding the fun and the good in them, even when things don’t turn out quite how you thought they would.”
With a lush simmer, Serendipity opens via I Just Wanna Kiss You; a sunny slice of charm, complete with jangly hooks, sleek modernity and an upbeat core. From here, Tilly balances rumination with buoyant melodies (Boys In Bars), crystalline indie-pop earworms with matters of the heart (Out Of Love), and moody acoustics with crisp basslines, along with moments of sweeping strings (Overcast). And flexing her ability to weave sunny melodies with handfuls of emotion on Better Than This, Serendipity’s penultimate track Lucky Girl showcases sparkling self-reflection, before the EP ends on the swelling splendour of Rearview.
With mixing courtesy of both Michael Belsar and Dan Grech across the tracks, and mastered by Dale Becker, Serendipity also sees Tilly team up with the likes of G Flip, Aidan Hogg, Konstantin Kersting, Kat Ostenberg, Miki Ratsula and Benji Ellingworth. “I am SO ready and absolutely cannot wait for everyone to hear Serendipity”, shares Tilly. “After such a positive response to my debut EP, I was inspired to keep making new music after seeing how many people it resonated with. I started writing for this EP as my first one was still being released, so it feels like I have been working on it for a while and I have been eager to share these songs for so long. This EP feels like such a special little snapshot of the music I’ve been making over the past year, and I’m really proud of how it’s all come together.”
One of the undisputed rising stars of the Australian indie pop scene, Tilly Fenton’s creative journey catapulted in 2023 when she campaigned on TikTok for a support slot for American singer-songwriter Lexi Jayde’s Australian tour. Fast-forward to Tilly landing the sole support slot for the run, Tilly went on to release her debut EP it’s a feeling that I know in 2025, cementing her reputation for threading emotive songwriting and deeply personal lyricism into her brand of indie pop, with a creative maturity well beyond her years.
Previously sharing stages with the likes of Lexi Jayde, Aleksiah, Seb Szabo, Tonight Alive and Mariae Cassandra, Tilly’s creations have also seen her land editorial playlist adds across Spotify and Apple Music, while the triple j First Play of her single I Just Wanna Kiss You earlier this year blew up with hundreds of texts sharing love for the luminous bop. Tilly’s most recent single, her highest streamed single to date, Lucky Girl alongside I Just Wanna Kiss You will, of course, join today’s new single, Rearview, on Tilly’s long-awaited sophomore EP; and the anticipation is just as real for Tilly as it is for fans alike. THE TRYOUTS RETURN WITH NEW DOSE OF INDIE GOODNESS IN ‘CHEWING GUM’
Returning with brand new music in 2026, Newcastle indie pop duo THE TRYOUTS deliver a reminder of their charisma and staying power with fresh cut, ‘CHEWING GUM’.
As an indicator of a brand new chapter for the group, ‘CHEWING GUM’ takes a bold direction and wraps all the elements of THE TRYOUTS’ appeal – insatiable melodies, lyrics and production – up in a fresh, new perspective. For this new track, THE TRYOUTS recorded at Sydney’s Golden Retriever Studios, expanding on an original demo created with Eric Slick (Dr. Dog) and Kyle Ryan (Kacey Musgraves) in Nashville back in 2025.
The chemistry between THE TRYOUTS themselves – songwriters and partners Chelsea Reed and David Macmichael – remains ever-prominent on this song, as they bend and weave effortlessly with one another through the music. As Reed explains, ‘CHEWING GUM’ saw a few different versions before ultimately arriving at its final form we hear today.
“We had made a few home demos and it was the front-runner song for us when we took a writing trip to the USA in mid-2025. We ended up working on a much more polished demo with Eric Slick (Dr Dog) and Kyle Ryan (Kacey Musgraves) in Nashville. They really helped us to bring the arrangement together and tidy up some of the lyrics. We wrote some more of the lyrics together at the pub in Sydney the night before recording with Dave Jenkins Jr (Vera Blue, Daniel Johns). It feels a lot more anthemic than a lot of our older songs but is still imbued with signature self-deprecating humour and nihilism.” CHELSEA REED, THE TRYOUTS
Macmichael adds, “‘Chewing Gum’ started with a riff that evokes the bass line from Smokey Robinson’s ‘Tears of a Clown’ and is basically loose observations from a life spent scrambling onto the wagon, and then swan diving off again. Not meant to be an anti drinking PSA, just a neutral response to what I’ve generally experienced in my relationship with alcohol over the years.”
‘CHEWING GUM’ is the first new release from THE TRYOUTS since they came through with the single ‘Good Year’ in 2025. To date, the group has created music that has matched their fun and energetic personalities onstage. Coupling humour with melancholy; vibrancy with a self-aware wit, THE TRYOUTS have been quick to capture the attention of crowds and industry alike since their first steps into the spotlight circa 2017.

Burgeoning rock trio Deux Visages is vocalist Daphney Hanono, guitarist Jack Chiu and bassist Tony Jouvin. Their emergence has been a whirlwind. Founded over a thread of DMs in high school, they quickly signed to Atlantic Records once word of their rampant and immersive live shows hit. Today they announce their debut full-length and first with Pure Noise Records, Call It Goodbye. It’s Deux Visages’ coming-of-age story – a sophisticated yet visceral examination of the conflict between the past and the future. Each invigorating and powerful track bristles with the tension and emotions that come with youth and new experiences. On Call It Goodbye, the trio look back at what’s been, while also confidently leaving that very past behind.
On Automatic, available today alongside an accompanying video, Hanano reflects on an internal monologue of feeling ‘less than’ and ‘predictable’. She tells, “A lot of this track has to do with things crashing down around us with our first record deal. It was our early days as aband and touring, and we weren’t feeling worthy or ready to handle all of these major changes.”
Deux Visages recorded Call It Goodbye in Miami with longtime friend Arquimides ‘Arkii’ Cala—who also recorded all of the band’s early material including their very first single Cheetah. Cala masterfully captures Deux Visages’ dreamy, soaring, feedback-soaked sound. From the album’s leading euphoric single Always You, to the immediate track Behind, Deux Visages balance vulnerability with explosive guitars and dynamic shifts. The title track closes out the record with a sense of frustration and urgency, confronting the inevitability of time slipping away.
Together, these songs depict the instability, uncertainty, and growing pains of youth while ultimately embracing change. Call It Goodbye is a record about asserting yourself amid uncertainty—and discovering that, with enough determination and self-belief, you can leave the past behind and move confidently toward whatever comes at you next.

Sydney’s CHILLCHENEY have built for themselves a strong foundation when it comes to their music expression. With their new EP WORLDS COLLIDE, the group embraces a wide variety of influences that have drawn from not just hip hop, but the worlds of alternative rock, soul, pop and jazz. As a statement of intent, the project is a reminder of CHILLCHENEY’s dynamic nature, and the power of uniting through different backgrounds. Featuring singles ‘Let It Out’, ‘Cool Breeze’, ‘Underground’ and ‘Worlds Collide’, the record is a pure exploration of sound and energy. The chemistry shared between members Lance Cheney, Harvey Faulkner and Emma Willison de Pugh is a stand out; each bringing individualism and personality to the record.
Across the entire tracklist, CHILLCHENEY have remained steadfast in their overall vision: amplifying unique perspectives and letting a myriad of sounds fly. Each song on this EP was mixed by Lance Cheney (Kobie Dee, Miss Kaninna), with engineer Stefan du Randt (Mac Miller, Thelma Plum and Delta Goodrem) mixing ‘Let It Out’. On mastering, Mitaru McGaughey (Blackstone Mastering) elevated the overall project to the impactful final cut we hear today.
“Rather than staying in one lane, the EP embraces the contrast between heavier and more vulnerable moments, energetic live arrangements and more atmospheric production.
At its core, Worlds Collide is about finding connection through difference. It’s about bringing together the things that might not seem like they belong together and discovering something new in the process. That idea has become a big part of who ChillCheney are as a band, different musical backgrounds, different influences and different voices coming together to create something that feels like our own.” CHILLCHENEY
The WORLDS COLLIDE EP has shown the group themselves what they can do as a creative unit. The record, born out of a period of immense experimentation, speaks to the shared language between these musicians. As they explain, rather than trying to make any sort of central or uniform sound, CHILLCHENEY instead leaned further into exploring elements of difference.
“Some of the songs changed significantly from their original versions as we experimented with arrangements, instrumentation and production. Rather than trying to make every track sound the same, we leaned into those differences. In a way, the process became a reflection of the title itself, different sounds and ideas coming together and finding a way to coexist.” CHILLCHENEY

CJ Commerford & The Supertones are back with their latest single, “Feel the Bite”, a blues-rock driven track with a gospel edge and a message for anyone who’s ever found themselves scrolling through life instead of actually living it.
“Feel the Bite” takes aim at our increasingly phone-obsessed world, challenging listeners to put the screen down, look up, and reconnect with what’s happening right in front of them.
Musically, the track pushes The Supertones into a slightly different territory. While still rooted in the soul and blues influences that have shaped the band’s sound, “Feel the Bite” leans harder into rock, blues and gospel, bringing a rawer, more driving energy to the mix. Gospel-inspired elements add a sense of lift and urgency, while the band’s blues-rock foundation keeps the track gritty and grounded.
“The song is really about being present,” says CJ Commerford. “We’re all so indoctrinated by the digital world, you’ve got to put the thing down and actually experience what’s happening around you because the direct unfolding moment can never happen again. Feel the music and be in the conversation with life. The digital world we’ve been conned into believing connects us is a cheap band-aid for the real deal. We face real consequences for the time we’ve already lost; look up and shine on!”
The result is a track that doesn’t simply tell you to get off your phone; it makes a pretty good case for putting it down and turning the music up instead.
Following the release of their recent live EP, recorded at the sold-out Kew Court House show, “Feel the Bite” marks another step forward for CJ Commerford & The Supertones as they continue to expand their sound while staying true to their love of vintage soul, blues and analogue-inspired music.

Since beginning his professional music career at just fourteen years old, Karl Cochran built an impressive legacy as a guitarist, songwriter, producer, and collaborator. Throughout his career, he worked, toured, and recorded with some of rock’s most respected names, including Ace Frehley, Joe Lynn Turner, Eric Singer, Bob Daisley, Corky Laing, John Corabi, Carmine Appice, Tony Franklin, Kristen Chenoweth, Public Enemy icon Flavor Flav, and many others.
Karl toured extensively with Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow, Deep Purple, Yngwie Malmsteen) and became a key contributor to several of Turner’s solo releases, including the acclaimed Second Hand Life in 2007. He also co-wrote “Into the Void” with Ace Frehley for KISS’s Psycho Circus, which achieved platinum status worldwide following its 1998 release.
In 2000, Karl launched Voodooland with a self-released EP before expanding the project with the 2004 full-length release Give Me Air. The album showcased an all-star lineup featuring Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow, Deep Purple), John Corabi (Mötley Crüe, The Dead Daisies), Bob Daisley (Ozzy Osbourne, Rainbow), Brent Fitz (Union, Slash), and many other renowned musicians as well writing partners Robert Mason (Warrant) and Ron Young (Little Caesar) on many of the tracks.
Reflecting on his longtime friendship and musical partnership with Karl, Joe Lynn Turner shared: “I worked with Karl for as long as I can remember. Writing, recording, and playing live shows. We were truly brothers in mind, body, and spirit. Many great times and even more great music came out of our love and friendship. His legacy will live on through the songs and videos, but he also left something else behind for us to discover and enjoy.”
Now, for the very first time, the complete Voodooland collection has been remastered and repackaged for a deluxe vinyl release. Presented on stunning 180-gram blue vinyl as a double LP housed in a beautiful gatefold package, this limited edition pressing is restricted to just 300 copies worldwide.

Nick Ward returns with “Jenny,” the latest single from his forthcoming sophomore album Year Of The Snake, out November 13 via EMI Music Australia.
A hazy, lovestruck song about the fantasy of meeting someone and throwing caution – and your old life – completely out the window, “Jenny” finds Ward leaning into the more romantic and playful side of his songwriting. Classic in its construction but unmistakably contemporary in its perspective, the track feels like a lost ’70s soft-rock hit filtered through the warped, intimate lens of modern indie pop. Like ‘Piano’, it is completely new territory for Ward – much more tongue-in-cheek and playful than his previously more earnest pop songwriting.
Written with longtime collaborator Lucian Rice in New Zealand, “Jenny” was created on a writing trip to Auckland, where the pair spent their time driving around the Auckland suburbs, listening to yacht rock and writing lyrics over cheap meals at a local Chinese restaurant. In contrast to their usual strict and focussed recording sessions, this new laidback process lent itself to Jenny’s carefree swagger and simplicity.
“It really changed my approach to songwriting. I’m usually so obsessed with being quite explicit or diaristic in my writing, which started to become boring and restrictive to me. Both ‘Piano’ and ‘Jenny’ were made on that same Auckland writing trip, and opened the doors to what the record could be. This song is really just a fantasy, a dream about something you can’t have. I think I was initially quite suspicious of how simple it was, thinking that I needed to obscure it a little more, but ultimately the boneheaded directness has become my favourite thing about it. It’s like a fucking Tom Petty song.” says Ward.
There’s a knowing simplicity to “Jenny”: a song about wanting to disappear with someone before you’ve even really figured out who they are. At once sincere and tongue-in-cheek, Ward describes the song as “so insincere, but also so sincere at the same time.” That tension is part of its charm – a queer-coded spin on “Jessie’s Girl” refracted through a post-Blonde lens, where fantasy, escapism and desire blur into one.
“The video was Charles (Buxton-Leslie) and my freaked-out take on the girl-next-door – we wanted to make something playful and raunchy, while still capturing the longing and obsession at the heart of the song. We built this strange, imaginary world with a tiny crew of friends, making miniature rooms and cardboard instruments along the way. We were inspired by late-60s surrealism, Jean-Luc Godard and Michel Gondry, and I’m really proud of how much we created with so little.” adds Ward.
“Jenny” arrives as another glimpse into Year Of The Snake, a record that sees Ward embracing a more focused, expansive and confident version of himself. Where his acclaimed 2024 debut House With The Blue Door was largely created in his bedroom, its follow-up was built collaboratively between Auckland and Sydney, with Ward working alongside Timon Martin, Kody Nielson, Lucian Rice and Tony Buchen, among others.
The result is a maximalist coming-of-age record that moves between folk, pop, electronic music, soul, indie-rock and classical music, while remaining rooted in Ward’s instinct for melody, experimentation and emotional candour. Inspired by The Beach Boys, Bowie’s Berlin era and the psychedelic doo-wop of Animal Collective, Year Of The Snake is ultimately a record about growing up – about losing people, losing certainty, and discovering what remains when you are forced to start again.
For Ward, “Jenny” represents a different kind of escape. If much of Year Of The Snake was born from a period of profound upheaval, “Jenny” captures the seductive fantasy of simply leaving it all behind.
“We weren’t thinking about ourselves when we were making that song,” says Ward. “There was no self-consciousness. It was like writing a script. It came from a real place of play.”
“Jenny” is the latest chapter in Year Of The Snake – a record about shedding old skins, finding new ways forward, and learning to embrace the strange, beautiful mess in between.

NORTHLANE RELEASE RAGING NEW SINGLE “CRUCIFIED”

Today, local metalcore heavyweights Northlane share “Crucified,” the latest single from their upcoming seventh studio record, Anemoia, out everywhere October 30.
The band have also just announced that Melbourne fans can celebrate the release with the band at New Guernica in Collingwood on October 30. The release party will feature an album listening session, a DJ set by Jon Deiley, meet and greets, exclusive merchandise and posters.
“Crucified” finds Northlane continuing the momentum of previous singles “Evian” and “CUT_it,” delivering a blistering exploration of polarisation and division underscored by raw aggression and crushing riffs.
“‘Crucified’ is about the collapse of civil discourse – the way every disagreement now defaults to attack, every conversation becomes a battleground, every difference of opinion ends with someone playing the victim,” explains frontman Marcus Bridge.
“Not only touching on politics, it’s about the regression of communication as a whole: arguments online, wars, general difference of opinion. If you’re offside, misaligned / we won’t rest tonight / till you’re fucking crucified. The instinct to go for the throat rather than hear someone out has seeped into every corner of life.”
“Crucified” offers the latest glimpse of Anemoia, an album executive produced by Jordan Fish and sparked by a set by UK producer and DJ Evian Christ. Inspired by the set, guitarist Jon Deiley began exploring how trance’s emotional intensity could sit alongside the catharsis of heavy music. The result blends Northlane’s electronic metal with euphoric trance, crushing breakdowns, drum-and-bass, jungle and pop.
Following their #1 album Obsidian (2022), Anemoia explores nostalgia for a time or place never known, balancing darkness with a sense of freedom and hope.
“There’s darkness here, but it’s not nihilism – and there’s hope, but it’s not naivety,” says frontman Marcus Bridge. “What we made is something that feels like it was written by real people living through the same experience as everyone else.”
Northlane will embark on their biggest Australian headline tour this November with the Anemoia Tour, joined by special guests After The Burial (USA), Cenobia and Above, Below.

British alt-shoegaze outfit OVERSIZE have returned with a stunning new single, Separate, released via SharpTone Records. Marking a powerful new chapter, the band return a year after the release of their debut album, Vital Signs, to introduce brand-new vocalist Nick Nowak.
The band commented: “We’re incredibly excited to start this new chapter, not just with a new member but also with a new creative outlook, after releasing our debut record we have a much better understanding of who we are as musicians and as a band – and we’re so happy to share a little part of what we’ve been working on. OVERSIZE are an alternative band formed in the Southwest of England. While the band don’t shy away from their love of alternative 90’s music, OVERSIZE have very little interest in being sonically tied to the past, their shared experience of writing and playing live together has found them carving out their own space within the alternative scene. Exploring dynamics within their music, songs drift between atmospheric textures to loud fuzzy riffs, magnifying and complimenting the personal and often venerable vocals. OVERSIZE have already had an impressive amount of live shows under their belt playing across the UK supporting the likes of Militarie Gun, Fiddlehead, Higher Power, Static Dress, Boston Manor, Modern Color to name a few. The debut record Vital Signs was released in February 2025 via SharpTone Records.
Although still very much in their infancy, the group have already developed a fully-formed, personal sound. Elements of post-hardcore, alternative metal, shoegaze and emo combine to deliriously heady effect. As if controlling chaos by hand, the Connecticut quintet balance an inclination for invention with innate intensity, defying expectations and expanding the scope of heavy music in the process. By following an internal creative compass, the group have continued to tread a singular path without comparison.
“Over the years, we didn’t listen to anyone else, we made the choices we wanted to make, and we believed in the people who stood behind us,” Wille says. “Each day, it’s always just been one foot in front of the other. Long before tallying hundreds of millions of streams and playing to sold-out crowds, the spark behind Currents began to flicker as early as 2011. Applications Open for Tasmania’s Pathways to Jobs in Live Music Program
Tasmanians aged 18 and over who want to build a career behind the scenes in live music are invited to apply for the 2026 WES Pathways to Jobs in Live Music Tasmania program.
Delivered by CrewCare with support from Arts Tasmania and Music Australia, the program will give approximately 20 emerging and underrepresented crew practical training, direct industry connections and a supported pathway into paid live music work.
The Tasmania program follows the successful delivery of Pathways to Jobs in Live Music in New South Wales in 2025, where 20 participants trained with leading production suppliers and moved into supervised paid industry placements.

What You’ll Learn
Participants will gain practical exposure to key areas of live production, including:

The program will include introductory training across several areas, followed by more focused training. Applicants will be asked to nominate their preferred areas, but final training allocations will depend on participant numbers, course capacity, trainer availability and scheduling.

● $100 stipend for each required training day, up to seven days
● A supervised paid industry placement of up to 80 hours

Since then I have been performing the song live in pubs and clubs, festivals and house concerts and have had so many people approach me afterwards, some with tears in their eyes, to tell me their own stories of how dementia has impacted them. It’s such a distressing disease that has touched most people I know and has become more and more prevalent in recent years.
This song is really about not letting the bad shit get in the way of remembering the good things, and to live life as a huge adventure, as fully as possible while you still can.

Now based on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, 8 Ball operates a recording studio in the Glass House Mountains and continues to tour extensively throughout Australia and the USA. His latest release, Nightbird, is a collaborative album written and produced with soul singer Taya Chani. Australia’s “Yodelling Drag Queen” LayDee KinMee Has One Message for Her Ex: “You’re Not A Lover”
More than 20 years ago, Jace Pearson began writing a breakup song in the aftermath of his first true heartbreak. He never finished it. Now, after another relationship brought those emotions rushing back, the award-winning Australian entertainer behind the larger-than-life drag persona LayDee KinMee has finally completed the story. “You’re Not a Lover,” out September 18, turns two decades of heartbreak into a sharp-edged pop/country-pop track about the moment love gives way to clarity, and “come back” becomes the last thing you want to hear.
As LayDee KinMee, Pearson has never been interested in playing it small. Standing nearly seven feet tall in heels and hair, he yodelled his way to a standing ovation on Australia’s Got Talent, has performed across Australia, New Zealand, Asia and Europe, and became known as “The Yodelling Drag Queen.” But behind the larger-than-life performer, “You’re Not a Lover” comes from something intensely personal.
Written by Jace Pearson, Michael Carpenter and Bec Caruana, the song began with lyrics and a melody Pearson wrote following the devastating end of his first true love. The breakup inspired nearly a dozen songs, but this one remained unfinished. Years later, Pearson brought what he had written into a session with Carpenter and Caruana, who helped reshape the song, soften some of its darker edges and bring the story into the present.
By the time Pearson recorded it, however, a new heartbreak had given those old words an entirely different meaning. He had recently walked away from another relationship after realizing the love and future he envisioned weren’t being reciprocated in the same way. “At the time of recording, I had gone through another breakup,” Pearson says. “I was so in love, but it wasn’t reciprocated to the same extent. I had spent so much time falling for this person, giving him my all and letting my guard down. When I realized it wasn’t going to progress as I had hoped, I had to walk away to prevent future heartache, even though the heart was already aching.”
That collision between heartbreak then and heartbreak now gave “You’re Not a Lover” its bite. Beneath its unapologetic refrain is a familiar turning point: when loving someone is no longer enough reason to keep letting them hurt you. “We’ve all had our hearts broken, and we’ve all been at a point where we want to see our exes suffer—metaphorically, of course,” Pearson says. “As much as we loved that person, we also come to the realization that it is in fact over and we don’t want them ever coming back. It’s a true breakup song.”
For Pearson, revisiting the song also became part of the healing process. “The writing process is so healing, and listening back is also healing,” Pearson shares. “Whenever I experience an emotion, I search for a song to nurture me through that experience. Many of us will experience a breakup, and perhaps this is the song to guide you through that process.”
“You’re Not a Lover” follows LayDee KinMee’s recent singles “Here I Am” and “Home Run Yodel,” continuing a recording career that brings together pop, country, cabaret, theatricality and the real-life experiences of the person behind the performer. More than two decades after Pearson first put his heartbreak into a song, “You’re Not a Lover” finally gets its ending. Not with reconciliation or another chance, but with the clarity to walk away, and mean it when you say don’t come back.

The band dove into recording Cursum Perficio in earnest during 2022, working out of Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in Los Angeles. They carefully pieced together what would be this magnum opus, mining their history with reverence, delivering on fan expectations tenfold, and broadening the scope of their signature sound. Produced by Jay Ruston and Anthrax, the result is an album that’s as angry, aggressive, and alive as their most celebrated fare.

Inspired by the incredible response the country music-loving community has brought to the last two years of HOWLIN’ COUNTRY, the team behind the Newcastle festival have decided that for year three, things are being kicked up more than one notch.
Making its return in February 2027, HOWLIN’ COUNTRY will debut a brand new format: its first ever ROCK N RODEO.
The huge, immersive event will be bringing live music together with family-friendly and all-ages entertainment. From bulls to broncos and barrel racing, not to mention the unbeatable community atmosphere HOWLIN’ COUNTRY has come to pride itself on, the 2027 ROCK N RODEO is primed to be one of those events that forms core memories for every punter to come through the gates.
Held on the Newcastle Foreshore on Saturday 13 February, the day will feature an excellent blend of Australian and international talent.
Howlin’ 2027 will see American singer-songwriter MAX McNOWN headline, the Oregon-born performer bringing his magnetic live show to Newcastle. McNown’s rise has been a prolific one in recent years, achieving viral success on TikTok (over 2.6 million followers), as well numerous Platinum selling records including ‘Better Me For You (Brown Eyes)’ and ‘A Lot More Free’. Releasing his new album Leave On A Light this September 25th, McNown is primed to make his ROCK N RODEO debut a memorable one.
Howlin will also feature one of Australia’s most prolific and successful musicians: KASEY CHAMBERS.
Chambers’ impact as an Australian country music legend precedes her; with 15 ARIA Awards, 28 Golden Guitars, as well as 13 studio albums that speak to a life lived and breathing music and the human experience, Chambers’ presence as a live performer is undeniable.
Completing Howlin’s ROCK N RODEO will be performances by Brisbane four-piece The Wet Whistles, ARIA chart topping dynamo Tori Darke, and breakthrough country-folk artist Ellis Undercover, alongside Cheap Whiskey DJs and some special international guests to be announced.
Alongside the live music, the ROCK N RODEO will also feature a fully fledged Rodeo in partnership with PBR Australia, and will be offering a Little Howlers play area, line dancing, a mechanical bull and many more activations perfect for families to enjoy during the day. In the evening, punters can expect a Silent Saloon to keep the party vibes going throughout the night.

Last month, progressive trailblazers Enslaved officially announced their forthcoming studio album, Mið, set for release on October 30 via Nuclear Blast Records. Throughout their 35-year journey, across 17 albums, the Norwegian vanguard have continually redefined the boundaries of progressive black metal, weaving Old Norse histories and sacred traditions into complex modern soundscapes. With their latest offering, Enslaved turn their gaze toward the fundamental concept of the axis: the middle, the origin, and the infinite reach of the present moment.
Building on the momentum of their latest tracks ‘Solar Will‘ and ‘Spirit Helper‘ (feat. Kevin Kicking Woman)’, the band have now unveiled the album’s next captivating single, ‘Tales Of Trees‘. The song uses the majesty and fragility of the natural world as a mirror for the human condition. Through a blend of complex progressive structures and searing black metal atmosphere, the band draws a poignant parallel between Mother Nature and the psyche.
Voicalist / bassist Grutle Kjellson states:
“Tales of Trees is indeed tales about trees, but perhaps not first and foremost in a botanical sense. Trees can grow, shine, and flourish, but they can also wither and burn. They need to be tended to and looked after in one way or another, and thus serve as a fitting parallel to the human mind, let alone humanity as a whole. Trees as symbols of something more than mere botanical creatures have appeared throughout history, both in mythological tales and in folklore. So, I think this tale is a fitting accompaniment the the heavy and yet dynamic tunes of this composition”
Guitarist Ivar Bjørnson adds:
“‘Tales of Trees’ can be both a tribute to our wooden relatives on this planet – who have had rather a lot of patience with us; and a metaphor for so much more. The winding time signatures of folk music and the adventurous spirit of classic prog are natural ingredients in my songwriting, and they feel particularly at home here.There is something about our kinship with trees that is both deeply familiar and wonderfully strange: everyday encounters with something we barely understand. That sense of recognition and mystery is at the heart of this song, opening another path into the world of ‘Mið’.”

Never faltering, Norway’s iconic Enslaved continue to exist as one of the most original and dependable components in our scene’s indestructible backbone. Possessing the reputation as one of the most riveting live acts around, they never fail to offer us talent of the highest calibre, always doing justice to their signature black/progressive sound. Enslaved was formed in 1991 by Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson, releasing their first demo Yggdrasill in the summer of 1992, their legendary mini-album Hordanes Land coming out in 1993, and with their debut full-length Vikingligr Veldi arriving in the spring of 1994.
It’s a rare and remarkable feat that 35 years and now 17 albums in, Enslaved’s horizons still continue to expand. Every stage of the Bergen band’s evolution, every new phase entered, has felt like an organic act of discovery and renewal. Their journey has been at once a commitment to a promise that found its embryonic form in the Norwegian black metal scene they emerged from, and a willingness to challenge both orthodoxy and themselves from the off to make that potential manifest.
Enslaved’s new album, Mið, an Old Norse word for ‘centre’, or ‘middle’, marks another departure, and another new beginning. The band have always dealt in states of transition, nor least on the thematically linked, mythology-steeped rites of passage that were 2020’s Utgard and 2023’s Heimdal. What lay beyond, however, was… unexpected.
Mið is an album that sheds light on harmonies and dialogues embedded all around us: between the ways of the past, and how they can bring enlightenment to the present, between small kernels of truth and their ability to project onto the most universal on canvases, and between band members relying on instinct and each other to create a record that galvanises on every possible level.

As the band’s mission statement, Prong incorporates the well of styles their legacy is built on. The atmospheric journey to claim direction starts within the dreamscapes of “Draumakona”, an expressive look at the female side of shamanic prophecy. The French band constructs their Nordic folk melodies to be particularly catchy, shifting powerfully between female lead singing and multilayered vocal arrangements to create an antiphony between individuum and community. Inspired by Skaldic poetry, SKÁLD use instruments fitting of the time: Ørlǫg is shaped by Nordic fiddles, different forms of harps and lyres, horns, kannels, and whistles, among others, as well as three lead vocalists to bring the arrangements to life. “Myrkviðr” picks up on the opening track’s persuasive energy, with male vocals taking the lead this time. Further spreading their message is “Ratatoskr”, intonated by clattering sounds and throat singing, channeled into hauntingly repetitive chants of the eponymous squirrel’s name. “Útgarðr” contrasts the different voices compellingly by the passages being sung simultaneously with alternating focus and a goosebump-inducing climax—instantly opposed by “Ek skald rida” which makes use of similar techniques, but is the most tranquil track on the album. “Himinbjǫrg” reaches far out to the edge of Asgard, where Heimdall guards the rainbow bridge, Bifröst. SKÁLD lend him an assertive voice, so the song serves as an emphatic yet reassuring guide through our sometimes-clouded destiny. “Heiemo og Nykkjen”, a rendition of a traditional medieval folk ballad from what is now Norway, takes a more provident approach to both instrumentation and vocal delivery, while “Veit barnit” calls upon the knowledge of children and uses a child’s voice alongside their usual harmonies to reflect that. The grim finale, “Eldr ok iss”, Old Norse for “fire and ice”, again calls on contrasts as well as referencing part of the creation myth in which the primordial being Ymir emerged from Muspelheim—the realm of fire—colliding with icy Nilfheim in the beginning of times. SKÁLD build an appropriate arc of suspense with a formidably sinister atmosphere.

Leading into the darkness is “Nightmare”, a track that KNIFE have already unleashed on live audiences.
