British alt-rock icons return to Australia for the first time in more than a quarter of a century, performing three landmark albums in full over three nights at the Sydney Opera House
28 – 30 January 2027 Sydney Opera House Concert Hall
Thursday 28 January – Suede
Friday 29 January – Dog Man Star
Saturday 30 January – Coming Up
“Suede, the Mercury Prize-winning glam-rock, cinematic-pop pillars of the 1990s Britpop revolution, return to Australia for the first time since 1999, making their Sydney Opera House debut with three consecutive nights in the Concert Hall. In their only Australian performances, from Thursday 28 to Saturday 30 January 2027, the trailblazing band will perform three of their defining records live and in full – Suede (1993), Dog Man Star (1994) and Coming Up (1996) – one album per night, along with a second set of classics taken from recent albums including Autofiction (2022) and Mercury Prize-nominated Antidepressants (2025).
“One of the great British bands of the 90s” – David Bowie
“Thirty five years into Suede’s musical odyssey, it’s not hard to see why this band inspire such a devoted following” – The Yorkshire Post
“Not so much a show as a swaggering demonstration of the power of Suede” – The Standard
One of Britain’s most enduring and influential alternative rock bands, Suede have spent more than three decades shaping the sound and spirit of British rock. They catapulted onto the scene in the early 1990s, helping ignite the Britpop era with their glamorous, dramatic take on guitar music. Their self-titled debut became the fastest-selling British debut album in almost a decade and won the Mercury Prize. Dog Man Star followed in 1994, before Coming Up in 1996 became their first UK number one album, producing hits including Trash, Beautiful Ones and Saturday Night. Released in 2025, Antidepressants marked the band’s tenth studio album and earned places on end-of-year lists from The Guardian, MOJO, Uncut, Record Collector and The Sun, among others.
Fronted by the electric Brett Anderson, Suede have built a formidable reputation for uncompromising live performances. In a recent five-star review, The Standard described them as “the most visceral live act on the planet”, while Louder Than War called a recent performance “a tour de force live performance of such immense quality that it left everyone in awe”. The concerts add to an electrifying summer season at the Opera House, alongside The Avalanches, Madness, Leon Bridges, Angus & Julia Stone, Dijon, Cat Power, and Tara Clerkin Trio, with more to be announced.
Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music, Ben Marshall, said: “I discovered Suede in 1993, with the impossibly glamorous Brett Anderson staring out at me from the cover of Select and prompting the immediate thought: “Who is THAT?” The band didn’t just look the part. Suede’s epic, visceral sound could veer from ferocious intensity to tortured delicacy, and I admired their wilful refusal to follow fashion.
“Unbelievably, this incendiary live band is only making its second-ever visit to Australia. Their brilliant recorded work often revels in dark, sweeping melodrama, but live, that drama is transmuted into something ferocious, raw and utterly visceral. And what a return – a Sydney-only appearance, performing their first three immaculate albums in full – one album a night, night after night – in-the-round, amid the grandeur of the Opera House Concert Hall. It’ll be worth the quarter-century wait.”
