Australian Musician has been informing our followers of Bonza Music Ltd, the immersive music-tech company empowering the next generation of creators. Bonza recently announced the launch of its open beta, inviting artists, educators, and music lovers worldwide to experience its platform for the first time.
Bonza is designed to make music creation, learning, and collaboration more accessible than ever. Four years in development and in collaboration with the University of York’s Audiolab, where pioneering work in Spatial Audio has been refined with academic precision, Bonza combines research-level audio innovation with real-world usability for musicians of every kind — from emerging artists to established performers. Supported by Innovate UK, this technology brings cutting-edge immersive sound out of the lab and into the hands of creators everywhere. The app bridges the gap between professional musicians and aspiring creators, musicians and educators of all ages and genres.
In further developments, Bonza Music has announced the acquisition of the full intellectual property rights to Soundjack, the pioneering low-latency audio platform created by world-renowned researcher and audio technologist Professor Alexander Carôt. The acquisition, completed in December 2025, transfers Soundjack’s IP to Bonza Music in perpetuity, with financial terms undisclosed, and marks a major milestone in the evolution of remote music collaboration technology.
For more than two decades, Soundjack has been one of the most influential tools in real-time networked music performance, widely adopted by musicians, research institutions and specialist remote collaboration environments around the world. Under Bonza Music’s ownership, the technology will be further developed and enhanced as part of the company’s next-generation commercial platform for immersive remote collaboration.
Currently in open beta, Bonza Music is building a real-time, high-fidelity platform designed to connect musicians, performers and audiences in shared virtual environments. The integration of the Soundjack codebase strengthens Bonza’s patented spatial audio and acoustic digital-twin technology, positioning the company as a leading innovator for musicians, live-event organisations, academic partners, distributors and technology integrators.
As part of the acquisition, Professor Carôt joins Bonza Music’s board as Chief Research & Development Officer (CRDO). In this role, he will work closely with the company’s engineering and product teams to advance next-generation immersive remote performance technologies and help bring them to market.
“I am thrilled to see Soundjack’s legacy carried forward by a company so deeply committed to innovation and musical creativity,” said Professor Carôt. “Bonza Music is building the next chapter of immersive remote performance, and I look forward to contributing my expertise as we develop technologies that will enable musicians and organisations to collaborate at a level previously impossible.”
Bonza Music founder and COO Fi Ryder said the acquisition represents a significant step forward in the company’s mission to make high-quality remote music-making accessible worldwide. “Soundjack has shaped the landscape of real-time networked performance, and Professor Carôt’s contribution to the field is unmatched,” Ryder said. “Bringing Soundjack’s IP and Alex’s research leadership into Bonza strengthens our technical foundations and accelerates our roadmap towards an industry-leading immersive platform for creators, educators and industry partners globally.”
