Gibson Custom introduces the Les Paul Custom Long Scale, for players who want the added snap of a longer scale or explore drop tunings
The Les Paul™ Custom has long stood at the top of the Gibson Custom Modern Collection, remaining a go-to choice for generations of players. Since its debut in late 1953, the model has upheld its reputation with its refined, tuxedo-style detailing, and this new chapter continues that legacy.
Gibson Custom now introduces a distinctive take on this celebrated instrument. This new Les Paul Custom retains the full complement of features from the Modern Collection version but pairs them with a 25.5” scale length rather than the traditional 24.75”. The result is a feel and response that will appeal to players who favour the added snap of a longer scale, as well as those who regularly explore drop tunings.
The Les Paul Custom Long Scale’s construction centres on a one-piece mahogany body with nine-hole weight relief for reduced weight and lively resonance, capped with a two-piece plain maple top that adds clarity and definition to the mahogany’s warmth and midrange. Multi-ply binding on the body’s top and back reinforces its status within the Modern Collection. The long-scale mahogany neck, carved to a comfortable Modern Medium C profile, is joined with a long neck tenon for excellent sustain and tonal transfer. A bound ebony fretboard with a 12” radius, 22 medium jumbo frets, and mother-of-pearl block inlays completes the playing surface. The multi-ply bound headstock features a Corian® nut, Grover® kidney-button tuners, and a mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and split diamond inlay.
Gold-plated hardware includes a Tune-O-Matic™ bridge and Stop Bar tailpiece. A calibrated pair of humbucker™ pickups, with a 490R at the neck and a 498T at the bridge, both with gold-plated covers, is hand-wired with CTS® potentiometers, a Switchcraft® three-way toggle switch, and a Switchcraft® 1/4” output jack. This setup provides a wide sonic range, from warm jazz textures to high-gain modern tones, and everything in between.
Each Les Paul Custom Long Scale ships with a Gibson Custom hardshell case and a Certificate of Authenticity. It’s an exceptional choice for players who appreciate the classic look, feel, and voice of a Les Paul Custom but prefer the musical possibilities offered by a longer scale length.
