Emergency! Lights! Sirens!
Last minute performer visas were just granted to WAPPERIN and they are touring Australia from 9 Aug – 14 Aug.
About WAPPERIN:
Nagoya’s WAPPERIN bring their explosive collision of synthesizers, drums, experimental rock, psychedelic textures and electronic rhythms to Australia this August.
Japanese “extreme new wave” duo WAPPERIN will undertake a five-date Australian tour from 9–14 August 2026, performing across Queensland and Victoria with a diverse lineup of local independent artists.
Formed in Nagoya in 2009, WAPPERIN is led by Fujin on vocals and keyboards and Hiroshi Hasegawa on drums. Together, they create a frantic and highly physical sound built from jagged synthesizers, pounding rhythms, experimental rock, psychedelic textures and unpredictable shifts in mood.
Their performances combine the raw immediacy of a stripped-back two-piece with the intensity and noise of a much larger band. Playful, chaotic and difficult to categorise, WAPPERIN describe their music as “extreme new wave”—a fitting name for their collision of art-punk energy, psychedelic electronics and relentless rhythmic momentum.
Onstage, WAPPERIN are energetic, wild and impossible to contain. Fujin moves between vocals and keyboards with an expressive, theatrical intensity, while Hasegawa’s explosive drumming drives the performance forward. Their shows frequently dissolve the usual separation between performers and audience, transforming intimate venues into unpredictable shared spaces where the energy moves in both directions.
Rather than simply presenting songs from the stage, WAPPERIN draw the room into the performance. The result is immediate, playful and sometimes confrontational: a live experience that feels spontaneous, physical and different every night.
The band’s recorded output includes the album Planet “WA”, alongside a series of independent and live cassette releases that capture their distinctive DIY approach.
WAPPERIN’s Australian tour begins on the Sunshine Coast before travelling to Brisbane, Melbourne, Bendigo and Fitzroy.
Each performance will feature a specially selected lineup of Australian independent bands and artists.
