Performed in a multi-instrumentalist duo format, the undressed tour brings to life songs from Steele’s upcoming undressed EP slated for April alongside reimagined versions of Little Birdy favourites, solo material, and carefully chosen covers. Each song is delivered in its most honest form, minimal, raw, and emotionally unfiltered, including today’s reimagined version of Lou Reed’s Perfect Day.
The undressed project was born during a transformative period, when Steele returned to the studio without expectation or over-planning. What began as a form of escapism quickly became a creative release, an intentional decision to let songs exist as they were written, imperfect and unpolished. That sense of freedom became the foundation of undressed: a spontaneous collection of recordings defined by closeness, vulnerability, and emotional clarity.
Captured largely in single takes, the EP represents a conscious departure from Steele’s traditionally layered, band-driven productions. Instead, undressed offers voice and piano or guitar alone – no embellishment, no artifice – allowing the heart of each song to take centre stage. Recorded in a single day in July ahead of tour, the collection also draws from unreleased sessions made over the years in New York and Los Angeles, finally brought into the light.
On stage, the undressed tour mirrors that same philosophy. With just Steele, her instruments, and one other musician, the shows offer audiences a rare window into the emotional core of her songwriting; intimate without being fragile, restrained yet deeply affecting. It’s a performance that leans into storytelling, silence, and space, letting each lyric land with full weight.
Set for release in April, ‘undressed’ EP marks a new creative chapter for Steele – one defined by honesty, momentum, and regular output. Inspired by records like Cat Power’s Covers, the project embraces the beauty of songs without makeup, stripped back to their bare bones.
