Brisbane indie favourites Last Dinosaurs are set to hit the road in celebration of a decade of their sophomore album Wellness, marking a pivotal chapter in the band’s evolution. To coincide with the anniversary, the album has been freshly reimagined as Wellnxss, due for release via Nettwerk on February 13, offering longtime fans a new lens on a record that helped redefine the band’s creative direction.
Originally released ten years ago, Wellness arrived at a moment of intense expectation, following the breakout success of 2012’s In A Million Years. Reflecting on that period, band member Sean Caskey admits his relationship with the album has changed dramatically over time. What once felt like a difficult follow-up has since revealed itself as a creative turning point.
“Ten years ago, Lach, Sloane, Dan, and I released our sophomore album WELLNESS!,” Caskey says. “It was the second chance for four boys from Brisbane State High to make another leap in the music world. I used to look back on this album as a bit of a failure, as there was so much pressure to follow up IN A MILLION YEARS, but now I see it as the catalyst for the way we make music today.”
That catalyst came through a shift in independence and confidence, sparked by the band’s decision to self-record and share early demos online. The overwhelmingly positive response to those lo-fi recordings proved transformative, emboldening Last Dinosaurs to trust their instincts and take full creative control, an approach that would later define the sound and vision of 2018’s Yumeno Garden.
“We’re so thankful to our fans,” Caskey adds. “It’s your positive energy that motivates us to keep pushing ourselves in the direction we need to go.”
The 10 Year Wellness Anniversary Tour, kicking off in June, will celebrate not only the legacy of Wellness but also the journey that followed-one that has seen Last Dinosaurs grow into a globally recognised act. Over the years, the band has appeared at major international festivals including Lollapalooza, Corona Capital, All Things Go Festival, and Splendour in the Grass, while sharing stages with artists such as Florence + the Machine, Foals, Foster the People, Bad Suns, Matt & Kim, and Vacations.
With 29 million streams in 2025 alone, Last Dinosaurs’ enduring appeal shows no sign of slowing, and the Wellnxss release and anniversary tour promise to be both a celebration of the past and a statement of where the band is headed next.
