We caught up with Misty Harlowe via zoom while she was in Nashville to discuss the new single ‘Welcome to the Wild West’ and accompanying video.

“Welcome to the Wild West” pulls you into Misty Harlowe’s unforgettable first night in a new neon-lit honkytonk fever dream, where the lines between reality and fantasy blur. Filmed at The Lulie Tavern, one of Melbourne’s iconic corner-stone Honky Tonk bars, where Misty has often graced the stage, making for the perfect location to create the glimmering cosmic western world. The narrative driven video is inspired from Misty Harlowe’s first experience of the USA in 2024, where she travelled from far East Gippsland in rural Victoria to Nashville Tennessee on a trip she describes as “A wild and wonderful whirlwind musical trip.” Three unplanned weeks extended to three action packed months, where she wrote and recorded ‘Welcome to the Wild West’ part of a five track EP with some of Nashville’s finest session players. The video fuzes classic Western film tropes with whimsical flair, featuring denim-clad cameos from Melbourne’s americana country music scene such as Ben Mastwyk, Patrick Wilson and J. Taylor Bell. As Harlowe steps into this strange new world, a clash of sweet naivety and smoky darkness unfolds where every glance holds a promise—of adventure, of trouble, of something just out of reach.
