The J-45 Original preserves the iconic round-shoulder dreadnought body design and the time-tested combination of a genuine mahogany back and sides paired with a solid Sitka spruce top. This classic pairing delivers the warm, woody voice that has defined the J-45 for generations, hallmarks that have helped make it the most recorded acoustic guitar ever, as well as Gibson’s all-time best-selling acoustic model.Internally, the J-45 Original is equipped with the all-new, Gibson-exclusive Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ pickup system. This advanced active system represents a forward-thinking approach to acoustic amplification. It utilizes two lightweight sensors mounted to the bridge plate, each paired with its own preamp, to produce a rich, natural amplified tone that faithfully reflects the instrument’s unique voice, without affecting its unplugged sound. It delivers gain-before-feedback comparable to an under-saddle pickup. Convenient soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls allow for quick adjustments while remaining virtually hidden from view.
Often referred to as “The Workhorse,” the J-45 60s Original, Fixed Bridge carries that legacy forward. It features the classic round-shoulder dreadnought body, built with solid mahogany back and sides and a solid Sitka spruce top, a Tonewood pairing that has defined the model since the beginning. The 24.75” scale mahogany neck has a comfortable Round profile and joins the body via a dovetail joint with hot hide glue, promoting excellent resonance and tonal transfer. A rosewood fretboard with 20 standard frets and mother-of-pearl dot inlays completes the playing surface. At the headstock, a gold Gibson logo decal is paired with a bone nut and Grover® strap tuners fitted with white buttons that contribute dependable, stable tuning.
