We don’t usually post stand alone news items dedicated solely to the release of a single, however Far North Queensland’s Nicole Nighthawk is an artist close to our hearts here at Australian Musician. Not only is she an incredibly talented artist but over the years has contributed many wonderful features for our magazine, including informative video interviews with Joe Satriani, Orianthi , Nita Strauss and more.
Today, Nicole has unveiled a beautiful new love song “Written in the Stars”. It’s the third single from Nighthawk after launching her solo career in 2023. Five years after departing her band Grandhour, winner of Best Rock Artist at the Australian Independent Music Awards 2016, Nicole returned to music with her dark-pop single “No Tomorrow”, described by us, Australian Musician Magazine as “an impressive debut from a multi-talented artist.” Her follow-up single “Going Under”, a heavy-hitting, alt-rock track, captured the feeling of despair as you navigate grief and the long and often lonely road to healing.
As Nighthawk’s chapter closes on a story of heartbreak and loss, “Written in the Stars” is the result of a new life and new love for the singer-songwriter. Nicole shares, “Written in the Stars was composed as a wedding gift for my wife. What started as an acoustic ballad played to my love in front of our nearest and dearest, has become a crowd favourite at live performances and is often chosen by couples for their first dance on their wedding day.”
The studio production features an intimate intro that retains the essence of the original acoustic version, before building to a bold orchestral crescendo. What makes the backing even more poignant is the appearance of Nicole’s father Peter, playing some sublime trumpet parts. A beautiful, iconic soundtrack to a true love story.
The music video (dropping September 30th) uses real-life footage of couples. Nicole explains, “I wanted to celebrate genuine love, so I collaborated with couples and their wedding videographers who were willing to share their treasured moments. I love that I was able to do this instead of using actors for the video, it makes it that little bit more special.”
The song was co-produced by Nicole Nighthawk & Voya Mulitinovic.
“Written in the Stars” is available on all major streaming platforms from September 24th 2025 with the music video dropping September 30th 2025.
