Melbourne-based roots ‘n’ roll collective, PepperCreek Revival’s second album It’s All Been Said is presented as a natural continuation of the band’s debut, built on the strong audience response to their first release and live shows. Rather than reinventing their process, the group returned to the same collaborative approach, bringing individual ideas into the room, shaping them collectively, and recording in a largely live setting.
Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips sat down with Peppercreek Revival’s Barry Hills and Kelly Auty over a zoom call to discuss the making of the band’s new album ‘It’s All Been Said‘ (Out now)

The album began taking shape in early 2025, with writing sessions evolving into three recording blocks. Some material was newly written for the project, while other songs drew on earlier ideas, giving the record what the band describe as a “mixture” of influences and perspectives.
A defining characteristic of the album is its live, organic feel. Many tracks were recorded in just one or two takes with minimal overdubs, deliberately preserving rawness and ensuring the studio recordings closely mirror the band’s on-stage sound. The emphasis throughout was on capturing performance energy rather than polishing every detail.
The title track, written last, became the album’s name because it encapsulated the record’s themes and mood. The band describe it as a piece that “pulls together” the ideas across the album, both musically and conceptually.
Across the record, the collaborative dynamic is central: each member contributes arrangements and textures, resulting in stylistic variety, from rootsy and southern-tinged moments to gospel-influenced harmonies and more driving rock tracks. Strong vocal interplay and group harmonies are highlighted as key elements of the band’s identity.
Closing track “So So Long” was deliberately placed at the end to provide a reflective finish, reinforcing the band’s intention for the album to be experienced as a complete journey rather than just individual songs.
