Russell Crowe’s Indoor Garden Party is many things: a band, an event, and above all, a celebration. Over the past decade it has grown from an impromptu jam outside a London pub into a globe-trotting live show that has hit stages from Glastonbury to the Colosseum. In 2025, however, there’ll be just one chance to catch it live, an intimate, one-night-only performance at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Saturday, December 20.
Crowe is keeping expectations delightfully vague, promising only “stories, songs, and surprises”. What that usually means is a heady mix of rock, blues, country, gospel, originals, reimagined covers and unexpected collaborations. Those who’ve seen the band online, perhaps the fabulous Siena performance of Save Me or the gospel-fired clip of Let Your Light Shine with Marcia Hines, will know that the Indoor Garden Party thrives on spectacle and emotion.
The upcoming Enmore show is set to feature a stellar cast of guests, including indie-rock up-and-comer BRAKE, Golden Guitar favourite Troy Cassar-Daley, the ever-soulful Marcia Hines, Ireland’s Lorraine O’Reilly, and Danielle Spencer, who will open the evening with new material including her recent single Regenerate.
While Crowe has been recording music since the early ’80s, the Indoor Garden Party itself has only released two albums, The Musical (2017) and Prose and Cons (2024). The project has also led to memorable collaborations, such as his 2024 duet with Italian star Zucchero on Pearl Jam’s Just Breathe, performed together at Rome’s Circo Massimo. And wherever the Party travels, the reaction has been unanimous. UK critics have hailed Crowe as “every inch the rock star” and “the perfect frontman” following last year’s Glastonbury triumph.
Recent tours have taken the band everywhere from LA’s Whisky a Go-Go and New Orleans’ Tipitina’s to Pompeii’s ancient amphitheatre and Siena’s Piazza del Campo, drawing crowds in the tens of thousands. But 2025 is different. With Crowe juggling six feature films in twelve months – including Nuremberg (with Rami Malek and Michael Shannon), Beast in Me (with Amy Shark and Dan McPherson), Bear Country (with Luke Evans and Teresa Palmer), Billion Dollar Spy, UNABOMB, The Weight (with Ethan Hawke) and the hotly anticipated Highlander reboot with Henry Cavill, music has had to be placed on the backburner.
That’s why the Enmore show feels special: a hometown blowout to cap off a whirlwind year. “For the band, this gig will be like a celebration,” Crowe says. “A heavy work year behind us, one big blow-out to finish will be so much fun. It’s the Christmas show you go to when you don’t really want a Christmas show, we’ll even have a ‘no reindeer’ policy on the night.”
