SANTANA GIVES BACK

In an online environment where everyone is fighting for their own piece of the publicity pie, often the more important, less self-centred projects get ignored. This occurred to us when speaking recently with guitar legend Carlos Santana about his new album Blessings and Miracles. He briefly told us about his charity project The Milagro Foundation and we decided to look into it further.

The Milagro Foundation is a publicly supported foundation established by Carlos Santana and his family in 1998. Milagro benefits underserved and vulnerable children around the world by making grants to community based tax-exempt organizations that work with children in the areas of education, health and the arts. Milagro means “miracle.” The image of children as divine miracles of light and hope, even as gifts to our lives, is the meaning of the name. With funds generated by concert ticket donations, Santana licensed products and generous philanthropic partners and individual donors, Milagro supports children and youth in the San Francisco Bay area, across the United States and in countries around the world. The Milagro Foundation is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children. We invite you to join us in educating and serving children throughout the world

Proof in the pudding of Santana’s commitment to The Milagro Foundation is the Carlos Santana Arts Academy (CSAA), a Public School Choice site operated by Educational Service Center North in Los Angeles Unified School District. The mission of Carlos Santana Arts Academy (CSAA) is to prepare students to be successful in a diverse society and ever-changing world, becoming self-directed learners as they reach proficiency in a standards-based curriculum with arts at its core.

This project, ArtSmart: Focus on Music, is designed to provide standards based and sequential instruction in music for the entire student body of Carlos Santana Arts Academy. Students receive engaging and challenging instruction in vocal and instrumental music, coupled with guidance and support that enables them to develop their technical skills, performance skills, compositional skills and artistic voice. Mr. Santana and his Milagro Foundation are proud supporters of the music program at CSAA.

Earlier this year, the Milagro Foundation funded Justice in Motion and Save the Children, two non-profits helping to provide relief for children and their families at the US Border. These two organizations are compassionately working around the clock and directly with immigrants.

Since 1998, Carlos Santana’s Milagro Foundation has supported low income, underserved and underrepresented children in 36 states and 18 countries by granting over eight million dollars to nonprofit agencies working with children and youth.
