ANYA ALCHEMY OOZES SASS WITH DEFIANT NEW SINGLE ‘BIG GIRLS’

Anya Alchemy is back with a bang, announcing the release of her newest single, Big Girls, a swaggering alt-pop banger that delivers a powerful ode to body neutrality, self-confidence and the freedom of embracing yourself on your own terms.

Backed by a dream team of collaborators, Anya joins forces with her brother Jay Ferriere (PEZ, 360) on production and co-writing duties, with Matt Bartlem (Boo Seeka, Jarryd James) bringing his expertise as mix engineer, and Dale Becker (Billie Eilish, SZA) on mastering. The result is a bold, sonically polished release that pairs Anya’s rich, soulful vocals with punchy electronic hip-hop elements, cementing her reputation as an artist unafraid to turn personal experiences into unapologetically honest pop.

Born from a video Anya encountered on social media exploring the differences in how women are treated depending on their body size, Big Girls transforms a deeply personal experience into a sharp, self-assured anthem. Reflecting on the contrast between being a curvier, awkward teenager and growing into an adult who embraces her body, Anya unpacks the uncomfortable reality of how quickly society’s perception of women can shift and what it means to recognise your own worth beyond that validation.

For Anya, the inspiration was as confronting as it was familiar.

“I wrote Big Girls after watching a TikTok video about growing up chubbier and the difference in how men treat you when you’re bigger versus smaller. I related to that HARD, especially reflecting on my experience of how I was treated as a chubbier, awkward teenager compared to when I grew into my skin and accepted my body as an adult. Boys that jeered me in high school were now trying to match with me on dating apps. It felt like whiplash, and I wanted to write something about that experience.”

With its infectious alt-pop swagger, Big Girls turns a universally recognisable experience into a defiant statement of self-worth, reminding listeners that confidence isn’t about earning the world’s approval, it’s about knowing your value was never tied to the size of your body.

DECLAN O’ROURKE  releases new album ‘Oceanic’ & lead single ‘Miracles and Mirages’

Acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter Declan O’Rourke has just released his eighth studio album, Oceanic, alongside lead single Miracles and Mirages. To celebrate the release, O’Rourke will embark on a major run of live dates across Ireland this October and November.

Recorded in Sydney with longtime friend and collaborator Jim Moginie (Midnight Oil), the album marks a profound full-circle moment in O’Rourke’s life and career – a record shaped not only by place, but by time, memory and return.

At just 19, it was in Australia that O’Rourke committed his first songs to tape. That connect carried through with his much acclaimed debut album, Since Kyabram (2004), taking its name from the south Australian town of Kyabram. Decades later, returning to create a full studio album there represents more than a creative decision; it is a reconnection with the spirit of those formative years, now enriched by years of experience and artistic growth.

That sense of return is particularly evident in Miracles and Mirages, the album’s lead single. O’Rourke and Moginie originally wrote the song the day after they met, 20 years ago at the Blue Mountains Festival in New South Wales. Rediscovered during conversations ahead of the Oceanic sessions, the pair returned to the song in Moginie’s Sydney studio and, as O’Rourke recalls, thought “Wow, this is a banger!”

The song grew from a light-hearted conversation between the two friends about the pitfalls of the modern healing world – “Everyone claims to have the cure for whatever ails you.

Natural medicine IS the way to go of course. No question. But you have to do the inner work too, and that’s a lifetime job” explains Declan.

With twenty years between them, O’Rourke and Moginie share an easy trust that gave the sessions a real sense of freedom. “Jim is very easy to be around, and songs just seem to happen when we hang out. I thought he must be like this with everyone. He obviously wrote buckets of songs with his pals in the Oils. But he told me recently I’m an oddity in this regard for him too. So, there’s some chemistry and magic at work which we won’t question too hard!”

A confident and carefully shaped record, Oceanic captures a life lived across two continents and hemispheres. Speaking on the album, O’Rourke explains: “Oceanic somehow wrote, and then made itself too.

I’ve always felt that being an artist is a process of stripping away layers of yourself to get to the core. If that’s true, then Oceanic is a collection of dreams that have surfaced on their own, from among the deepest of my own layers.”

Following Arrivals (2021), the landmark Paul Weller-produced album that marked a high point in O’Rourke’s catalogue, Oceanic feels like a natural step forward from an artist who continues to evolve, guided by curiosity and a willingness to follow wherever the current leads.

INNER CHILD – SELF TITLED ALBUM – OUT NOW

Inner Child formed in 2023 around a simple premise: the parts of yourself you have buried are worth going back for. The trio writes long-form instrumental music at the cinematic edge of progressive metal, built on themes from Jungian psychology, the shadow self, and what it means to carry your inner child into adulthood.

The self-titled debut was written and arranged for Matt Garstka’s playing before he knew the band existed. When the demos reached him with all guitars and bass in place, he signed on, and his Nashville drum sessions became the final layer on the record.

LINEUP
Carlos Borges · guitars, programming. Classically trained; Venezuelan roots run through every piece.
Alek Darson · lead guitar, bass, keyboards, programming. Featured on Jordan Rudess’s Wired for Madness (2019).

SKEGSS, THE BUOYS, THE TULLAMARINES  & MORE ANNOUNCED FOR NEW MUSIC EVENT SERIES THE LOCAL

LOCAL OPENER COMPETITION LAUNCHES TO FIND THE BEST TALENT IN EACH TOWN

Set to bring a stacked bill of Australian talent to venues in Frankston and Woodport this summer, new live music series THE LOCAL is primed to become a must-add calendar mark for punters in regional Victoria and New South Wales.

THE LOCAL is built around a core objective: celebrating talent that has been grown in our own backyards, and providing a platform for live music fans to come and enjoy, create new core memories, and witness some of the country’s best live bands in their natural element.

Held on two Saturdays in January, a line up boasting SKEGSS, RADIUM DOLLS, LUCKY at Frankston’s Pier Hotel and Erina’s Woodport Hotel, with THE BUOYS and GOOD SNIFF joining the lineup at Frankston, whilst THE TULLAMARINES and LIQUID ZOO will be performing at Erina.

THE LOCAL will also be showcasing the sounds of each local scene, selecting a band from each region through a publicly held competition. This will give the opportunity for two locals to share a stage with some legends of the Australian music scene.

Who can enter: This is for bands and solo acts from the Frankston/Mornington Peninsula area (VIC) and the Central Coast (NSW) that can perform a 30min set of original material. All members need to be available on the show date and aged 18+. This is a paid opportunity.

Entries to the competition via the online form are open until NOVEMBER 19TH 10AM, with winners announced in December. Sign Up HERE.

“We’re excited to launch THE LOCAL as a platform that brings emerging and established Australian artists together and to build it into something bands aspire to be part of. The local competition is a big part of that, giving artists from local areas the opportunity to share the stage with some of the country’s best and showcase the talent in their own backyard is something we really value.” TYSON WADE, THREE KINGS

Having grown from their beginnings as one of Byron Bay’s most exciting names, into one of Australia’s most recognisable rock bands, SKEGSS have developed a loyal and strong following largely built off an impeccable reputation as a live band. Their catalogue has accrued over 398 million streams, have earned multiple entries in the triple J Hottest 100, as well as an ARIA nomination (2019). Their sound, built around raw guitars, massive hooks and buoyant energy, is most definitely a pioneering presence of Australia’s coastal rock generation.

Beloved for their punchy and high-energy brand of alternative rock music, THE BUOYS are one of the country’s most formidable rock forces currently touring. With over 5 million streams to their catalogue, the girls have earned industry-wide acclaim, including nominations at the Rolling Stone Australia Awards, APRA Music Awards and the J Awards. Their latest album, Concrete Cowboy, demonstrated distinct evolution in the band’s musical signature and Zoe Catterall’s songwriting game, pointing towards massive 2027 ahead.

“Bring back the local! So keen to be playing in Frankston to celebrate homegrown music! The lineup is already stacked, Skegss (lil Top Heavy Tour reunion), Radium Dolls, Lucky, and Good Sniff! Can’t wait to catch the local band who joins the bill!” THE BUOYS

Four-piece indie-pop group THE TULLAMARINES, wasted no time in establishing themselves as one of Adelaide’s most exciting names. Since their debut in late 2021, the band has earned a dedicated following for their fusion of personal storytelling and harmonies; an overall uplifting energy threads its way through THE TULLAMARINES’ catalogue, which had led beautifully to the live stage. In 2026, the band was nominated for both AIR Awards and South Australian Music Awards, while also being able to take their performances internationally as well as across the country.

“We absolutely can’t wait to get back to the central coast for the local fest this January! We’ve made so many great memories in that part of the country and is always so much fun to reconnect with those crowds!”

The Tullamarines
Formed in Brisbane back in 2019, four-piece RADIUM DOLLS have been hitting the road and touring relentlessly and as such, their reputation has experienced prolific growth. Their sound, blending pub rock, indie and punk attitudes has struck a chord with Australian music fans, with their second album Wound Up making its debut this year at #2 on the ARIA Australian Albums Chart.

Rising Australian indie artist LUCKY has been riding a vibrant wave of momentum since making her debut earlier in 2026 with her EP Biting Heels. Her brand of fuzzy ‘90s-inspired alternative rock and dreamy indie sounds have made LUCKY one to watch, performing at SXSW in Austin, Texas; being featured in NME’s Global 100 Emerging Acts, and having already supported the likes of The Belair Lip Bombs, Hockey Dad, Garbage and more.

Sydney indie rock group LIQUID ZOO. The five-piece, originally from Tamworth but now based in Sydney, are known and respected for their driving rhythms and high energy performances. Influenced by the likes of The Strokes, The Hives and others, Liquid Zoo have risen to prominence with their tracks like ‘Can’t Afford It’, ‘Taste’ and ‘Love Anyone Like You’, and have toured with artists including Jet, while making their debut in UK and Europe as well.

Based out of the Bellarine Peninsula, the Bass and Drum duo GOOD SNIFF have made a name for themselves in Australia’s alt-rock scene. With having already previously supported such Australian acts as Ruby Fields, Civic, Old Mervs, The Grogans, and internationals Wavves (USA) and Sun Room (USA), Good Sniff has continued to be a favourite in Australia’s indie scene.

YAWDOESITALL TAKES NO PRISONERS IN DELIVERING THE MASTERFUL

VENDETTA (THE SCORE) EP PROJECT

YAWDOESITALL has created a body of work in recent years that speaks to not just an ongoing dedication to the elevation of his craft, but also a sharp eye for blending stylistic and sonic references in creating a signature vibe all his own.

The above has culminated in the creation of YAWDOESITALL’s long-awaited EP, VENDETTA (THE SCORE). Teased with the release of singles including ‘LET IT GO’, ‘OBLIVIA’ and the insatiable title track, the new project from YAWDOESITALL is sharp, kinetic and serves a potent reminder of the artist’s track record for doling out music that remains all killer, no filler. The Sydney-based artist describes the EP as his “scoring in acts. This is my resume for scoring as a project.”

On the EP’s themes, he comments “This act is an overflow of my deep thoughts crowding a shallow mind. With a few dead dreams I rise through cold days and lonely nights.  This never ending trip to oblivion formed these bodies of work. I battle with love, rejection and belonging and hence mimic these misunderstood characters.

YAWDOESITALL’s work across VENDETTA (THE SCORE) highlights his own diverse sonic palette; not just inspired by contemporary hip hop artists, the project shows a unique mix of alternative and cinematic influences that YAWDOESITALL brings together in creating a dynamic soundscape.

A poignant focus track ‘MALEFICENT’ is a perfect example of the above. Narrated by frequent collaborator DEVAURA, the track see’s Yawdoesitall take things up another notch with some of the richest production of his career thus far, adorned with layers of vocals and different textures that create a truly dynamic experience.

As a songwriter and producer, YAWDOESITALL has proven his talent, expanding his sphere of influence to co-writes and collabs with the likes of Rick Ross, Taka Perry and more. As a performer, he has been responsible for serving up blistering sets around the country both as a headliner and supporting artists including Baker Boy and Redveil; since his debut in 2018, YAWDOESITALL has continued to make moves built on an unwavering sense of authenticity and strength.

NEWCASTLE’S ZEAL H. SHARES RIVETING SINGLE ‘MAHI’ FROM FORTHCOMING STUDIO ALBUM SKIING THE GUT

Blending an intuitive songwriting style with a masterful approach to nu-folk, experimental soul and jazz, ZEAL H. has emerged as an artist of intrigue and pure talent. Her music, expansive and intensely personal, has struck a chord with audiences in a way that has seen ZEAL H. establish a strong and dedicated following across Australia and Aotearoa.

This year sees the songwriter and performer release a new album project titled SKIING THE GUT – a striking collection created from ideas that evolved during ZEAL H.’s time in Aotearoa. Today, she is excited to share a brand new single from the record, ‘MAHI’: a song that thrives on rich instrumentation and emotional delivery.

“‘Mahi’ means work in Te Reo Māori. My friend Lucy used to say ‘do the Mahi, get the treats!’ And I’ve really loved this word ever since. I wrote this song after a tough conversation with a lover in which I felt I had done all that I could, and that all that was left to do was to release control and acknowledge that the ball was in her court, that it was her mahi to work out what she wanted now. The track celebrates the alchemy of heartbreak and a radical love for one and other even though hurt had occurred. It’s an ode to sapphic love and how there is a really special (sometimes insane) mode of operating where people move through the pain and are able to keep each other in their lives.

Allowing the love we have for one and other to guide us through the grief and to allow it to wash over us like a balm. You can clearly feel it in the line ‘through seeds of pain, we’re blossoming’. It is a very peaceful and blissful piece. The most sunny in feeling of all the tracks. It speaks to the feeling you have once you’ve worked through some really hard stuff together, and there’s almost this euphoria in knowing that you can push through the pain and love each other well that alchemists the grief.

The start of the track begins with a field sample I collected on the day my girlfriend and I broke up. It’s the sound of our bikes riding home after the big conversation and it holds a lot of feeling in it. I really love archiving emotions like this into pieces of music, it’s like scrap booking and making a time capsule all at once, and it means so much to me that all the field samples are from my personally collected library.” – ZEAL.H

The track, as with the rest of the album, was largely created by ZEAL H. across sessions in Australia and Aotearoa, working with engineer Yianni Adams (Polish Club, CINTA). The end result is beautiful and ethereal, speaking to the type of world-building ZEAL H. has become known for.

Describing her own practice ZEAL H. explains, “My practice sits at the intersection of nu-folk, experimental music, soul and jazz. I’m particularly interested in the convergence of nature and technology, often combining acoustic instrumentation with analog devices and field recordings. Five-part vocal harmony meets strings, patchworked percussion, modular synthesis, field recordings and playful sonic experiments.”

ZEAL H. has consistently grown her profile across recent years spent evolving her practice on stages and festivals including the Skydance Festival and Carrington Folk Festival; supporting artists including Betty, ELMAR and Greg Sheehan, and of course as a headliner. Having played over 250 shows across Australia and Aotearoa, ZEAL H.’s sphere of influence as a completely independent artist has proven itself onstage and off. Her music has been championed nationwide on Australian community radio, as well ABC Radio and Rage.

‘MAHI’ is released Thursday 29 October.

SKIING THE GUT is released Thursday 29 November.

FANGZ SAY GOODBYE WITH FINAL TOUR AND TRACK ‘VOID’

After seven ridiculous years, a very small amount of people’s favourite semi-professional rock band FANGZ are calling it a day. Alongside the news is their final ever run of shows and track ‘VOID’ – produced by Daniel Antix (Stand Atlantic, RedHook, Pist Idiots) and mixed by Tim Maxwell (TOWNS, LOSER).

‘VOID’ is a fitting farewell, full of frenetic fretwork, driving drums, and raw, angst-fuelled vocals. Fast-paced and ferocious, the track boasts every FANGZ hallmark – an explosive intro, thrash-laden verses, a soaring melodic chorus, and a jolt of the unpredictable.

“‘VOID’ explores the lies we tell ourselves to avoid confronting uncomfortable truths. It’s about creating your own version of reality, convincing yourself you’re doing the right thing while ignoring the impact your actions have on those around you,” says bassist Jameel Majam.

“At its core, the song explores the disconnect between words and actions, and the difficulty of admitting when something you once cared deeply about no longer feels the same. As we prepare to enter an indefinite hiatus, the song takes on a fitting new meaning, reflecting themes of honesty, self-awareness and knowing when it’s time to move on,” he continues.

Since their 2019 inception, the band has released three EPs, an album and a slew of singles, receiving strong support from triple j, triple j Unearthed, Triple M, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Metal Hammer (UK), Loudwire (USA), Classic Rock (UK), Metal Injection (USA), Louder Sound (UK), NME, Rolling Stone Magazine, The Guardian, and many more.

Their debut album ‘Shui’ released in 2025 earned an ARIA Australian Album #1 and ARIA Album #8 charting debut.

They’ve traversed the country multiple times, selling out headline shows, performing at festivals and sharing stages with the likes of FIDLAR (USA), Pennywise (USA), The Bronx (USA), Cancer Bats (CAN), Comeback Kid (CAN), and He Is Legend (USA).

FANGZ also completed an East Coast tour in 24 hours, launched their own hot sauce (Fang Us Some Sauce), and ran their own curated East Coast mini-festival FANGZstock. Cottreau also holds the Guinness World Record for the most hard-boiled eggs eaten in one sitting (143 eggs in three minutes and ten seconds).

EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL ANNOUNCE THEIR HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW ALBUM BLUE RESERVOIR  OUT 19 FEBRUARY 2027

THE ALBUM’S FIRST SINGLE & VIDEO ‘YOUNG AND DUMB’, OUT NOW

Single out now via Virgin Music Group

Listen Now

Pre-save / Pre-Order

Everything But The Girl – the best-selling UK duo formed in 1982 by singer-writer-musicians Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt – have announced their highly anticipated new album Blue Reservoir, out 19 February 2027 on Buzzin’ Fly, through Virgin Music Group. The album’s first single ‘Young And Dumb‘ and accompanying music video (treatment by Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt, directed by Edward Bishop) is out now.

Blue Reservoir is the eleventh and latest studio album from Everything But The Girl. Inspired by the pair’s unexpected and unconventional return to live performance in 2025 – a long-running sold-out residency (with thousands each night on the wait list) at Hackney’s intimate 300-capacity MOTH Club – the album sees the duo put aside the sharply-lit electronica of 2023’s acclaimed comeback album, Fuse (5 stars, The Guardian), and lean into some of their foundational influences and ideas.

“There was an intensity and simplicity to the MOTH shows that took us back to how we started out,” says Thorn. “Direct, rooted in guitar and voice, a few extra colours. We hadn’t been in that world for a long time and it just felt fresh and real.”

Uplifted, Watt bought a Spanish nylon-string guitar in January 2026 to write and perform on. “It is the sound of so much of the music I first connected with growing up, and I’d never actually owned one. It became quite an emotional springboard for me. I found a voice I thought I’d lost.”

The music came together in a creative burst in the first few weeks of 2026. If the results (nine written on guitar, one on piano) draw on Watt’s signature Latin-influenced lyricism, British folk-blues improvisation and song-driven storytelling, the lyrics (six by Thorn, three by Watt, one co-write) look forward and back through time, part-conversational, part-allusive, carried throughout by Thorn’s richly original autumnal voice, Watt’s soft counterpoint and the pair’s unadorned harmonies.

The album of ten original songs was recorded largely live at RAK Studios in London over ten days in July 2026. Watt’s guitars – both nylon-strung rhythm and electric lead – are augmented by long-standing collaborators Rex Horan (double bass) and Evan Jenkins (drums). The percussionist is Fabio de Oliveira (Babo Moreno), son of Brazilian percussion legend Bosco de Oliveira – a central figure on Thorn and Watt’s influential debut album, Eden in 1984. The pair’s own son, Blake Watt (Family Stereo / Bella Union), part of the MOTH club line-up, guests on two songs. Additional overdubs (harmonium, celesta, tape loop atmospheres) were recorded by Watt at the duo’s home studio in north London.

Blue Reservoir is written, arranged and produced by Everything But The Girl, and recorded and mixed by Bruno Ellingham – engineer on albums by the pair, both solo and as a duo, for over 15 years. Mastering is by Miles Showell at Abbey Road. Artwork by John Gilsenan at IWANT Design.

INTRODUCING THE DELIVERABLES DEBUT EP OUT NOW!

Cheersquad Records & Tapes are proud to introduce the debut EP HOP ON IT from a new band from some old dogs, THE DELIVERABLES.

HOP ON IT is out today and THE DELIVERABLES will launch it tonight, Thursday October 29, at the Gem Bar in Collingwood, with special guests Mission Brown. Entry is Free.

***

Sometimes good things happen to those who wait. And waiting is what Piers Buxton has been doing for decades now, watching friends and strangers in other bands do their thing, whilst quietly writing and recording songs in the background… lots of songs.

Mission Brown’s drummer, guitarist and a longtime friend of Buxton’s, Gus Kelly recently heard one of these songs that made his ears prick up. ‘Sorry’ track 2 on the upcoming debut EP ‘Hop on it’, is a longing, heartfelt confession. It’s a song’, as Piers sings, ‘about a regret’, lamenting lost time and lost opportunities, wishing he could have summoned a false sense of security, enabling him to hop up on that stage when he was young.

Gus played this song to James and Max, the other two members of Mission Brown, who were immediately impressed and immediately onboard. So with studio time already booked for Mission Brown’s fourth album, the time was used instead to record 6 of Piers’ songs over 2 days.

And so, THE DELIVERABLES was formed with a mix of old dog experience and a mature-aged debutant. Max Maxey, Gus Kelly, James Crosland and Jason Kain, who was brought onboard for the finishing touches, bring a wealth of experience from bands such as Mission Brown, The Tonalists, Stupidity, The Mustard Club, Rufino and the Wreckage, Mister Sippy and The Jackson Code to name a few.

The end result… guitar driven rock with stories of misfortune, misdirection, love, hate, life and death and the characters, including every one of us, that make this world go round. It’s been worth the wait.

THE DELIVERABLES debut EP HOP ON IT is out today on Cheersquad Records & Tapes

WAITING FOR BRENDA – GIVING ME NOTHING ON GIVEN TERRACE

Waiting for Brenda has release their second album, this time taking most of the songs from the lounge room to a local recording studio in Brisbane.

Fronted by the evocative songwriting of Brenda Lee Kelly, the 11-tracks album features a collection of stories accompanied by fiddle, dobro, guitar, bass, drums, harmonica, and accordion.

Waiting for Brenda’s signature indie-Americana sound is elevated on this record with the songs given a bit more room for some production.

GOLDEN GUITAR: Brenda wrote this about one of her first experiences visiting the Tamworth Country Music Festival and it is about the commonality whatever the genre of music loving people you meet at festivals rather than about the awards or statues.

DAY OLD ROSES:  Cries out the bittersweet ache of a love past its prime, evoking fading beauty, memories and place with the emptiness of moving on when you’re still looking in the rearview mirror.

RODE ROAD: Country bluegrass tinged with a cowpunk attitude. It’s about a band break up and hoping that you may still be friends in the future but bands are like relationships sometimes not always easy to remain friends.

PERFECT TIMING: That feeling of being single and walking into a bar and seeing an old flame when you are looking for love but know that it won’t lead to anything long term. However, there is that feeling in your heart that maybe tonight things may turn out different and besides you know what your’re getting into. Sometimes perfect timing isn’t always perfect but perfect for just right now.

MAYUMI & IKKO:  A friend I met in London from Japan was travelling and their first stop was in Thailand where he said yes to drugs and ended up in a Thai prison. He had changed his name to Honda as he loved Honda motorbikes. It’s about past lives and new beginnings.

NIMBIN HOLIDAY: A quick fast rockabilly uke song written just before Waiting for Brenda performed at Nimbin Roots Festival. Brenda wondered when her grandmother migrated from Ireland in 1900 to Mullumbimy what the area was like then.

GIVING ME NOTHING ON GIVEN TERRACE:  A lost weekend during share housing days in Paddington, Brisbane.  It’s about not being able to speak up and just laughing things off rather than confronting them. A surprise ending captures the feeling of the song in that it is a funny title but there is poignancy within.

CATWALK: Memories of working at a department store when I was 17 and working with the lunch time fashion parades and that feeling of competition and comparing yourself with others.

THEY SAY TO ERR IS HUMAN:  A song about it being okay to make mistakes and just keep moving forward. Better to aim for the sky and aim for love than never try.

HOPING TO FIND THAT ALEXEI SAYLE SONG:  Brenda’s mother warned when she moved out of house that her 45 singles would be going to the local goodwill bin if she didn’t pick them up. This is about looking for that lost single (Hello John Got A New Motor). Brenda’s Mum always pronounced Alexei Sayle as Sail-ee so it has stuck.  It’s also about self love.

STELLA: They said she was afraid of no other woman and very few men I’d like to meet.  The legend of STELLA (Brenda’s grandmother) and the stories of the house in Petrie Terrace, Brisbane with the red light on.

 ABOUT WAITING FOR BRENDA

Waiting for Brenda is the originals band of singer-songwriter Brenda Lee Kelly, weaving lyrics with the sounds of friends on dobro, fiddle, bass, drums & guitar.   Waiting for Brenda have been described as a mix of country and western with 80’s New Wave influences.

Brenda Lee Kelly  leads the band on vocals with acoustic guitar, joined by friends and seasoned musicians: Garry Bain (guitar), Peter Cheney (bass), John Harrison (dobro), Luke Mysliwy (fiddle), and Craig Tobin (drums).

Their music is a distinctive blend of countrified indie alt-country, with unexpected shades of 80s new wave. It’s raw and heartfelt with a dash of grit.

Brenda released her debut album “Friendly Disposition” in 2023 with three of the 11 songs on the album nominated as finalists in the Tamworth Songwriting Awards (TSA) and one as finalist with the Australian Songwriter’s Association (ASA). Brenda has also facilitated songwriting workshops on behalf of the TSA.

For the past two years Waiting for Brenda have made the Hot 100 in the 4ZZZ Brisbane Community Radio Hot 100 list with two of her songs “Wildhorse Mountain” and “Friendly Disposition”

Waiting for Brenda started as a studio album with Brenda recording and mixing from home with her partner Damir Katic who she met whilst both studying Audio Engineering.  Brenda had recorded before and played in bluegrass and rockabilly country bands performing some of her original songs in these bands.  Those bands were put to a halt when Brenda found out that she had to undergo 14 months of cancer treatment.

Before undergoing surgery, she was inspired by Neil Young who recorded “Prairie Wind” before his surgery and so began a similar goal, to record a full album of just her original songs.  She began recording at home and then was asked to perform at a music festival once her treatment finished. With many of her musical friends waiting for her good health to return, she asked some to join her and from there a band was formed “Waiting for Brenda” and they began to gig regularly.

With a huge back log of musical collaborations between the band members (Garry Bain, Peter Cheney, John Harrison, Luke Mysliwy & Craig Tobin) they are all keen to express something new in each of Brenda’s songs.  Waiting for Brenda have been gigging constantly in South-East Queensland since 2023, performing at various venues and festivals (Nimbin Roots, Tamworth) and have had several Sunday afternoon residencies at popular Brisbane venue The Triffid.

“She has a unique vocal tone and style, and it stands out amongst today’s saccharine female country output and rings of genuine country leanings. Maybe file under Alt Country, but that just means this is more country than most of the songs on the radio charts at the moment.” – Jon Wolfe

Tamworth Country Music Capital News (March-April edition 2023)

‘Friendly Disposition’ is a slightly grungy set of songs which remind one of the heydays of alt-country. The band are just on the right side of ramshackle with wayward fiddle and Dobro solos galore while singer Brenda Lee Kelly strikes just the right attitude. TIG ANNOUNCES DEBUT ALBUM . IT’S TIME WE MET WITH NOSTALGIC NEW SINGLE ‘FERRIS WHEEL’

There is something quietly extraordinary about the moments that bring us back to one another, as life pulls us in different directions. Australian singer-songwriter Tig captures the beauty of holding on to those connections, inviting listeners into a world where nostalgia, vulnerability, and memory-making meet. ‘Ferris Wheel’ arrives Thursday 29 October alongside the announcement of Tig’s debut album, It’s Time We Met, which will be released on Friday 26 February, 2027.

Receiving global recognition as a Top 10 Global Emerging Songwriter in the 2026 Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition alongside luminaries Charley, Oliver Cronin, Carla Wehbe and more, ‘Ferris Wheel’ marks a significant new chapter, with deeply personal songwriting, intimate storytelling, an instinct for emotional detail and a sound that balances dreamy folk-pop with a cinematic ambition.

‘Ferris Wheel’ finds its emotional centre in the promise of an annual tradition. Inspired by the infamous Meredith Eye at Meredith and Golden Plains festivals, it’s a song about growing apart without necessarily wanting to, and the comfort of returning to the same place in the hope that something might still feel familiar. As its world begins to spin, the song opens into something bigger and more expansive, carrying the intimacy of a private confession into a widescreen, almost weightless soundscape.

“Sometimes I wish I had a pause button for life, so I could stop for just a few quiet minutes and take in the view before it all changes again,” Tig says of ‘Ferris Wheel’

For Tig, the song was an unusually direct act of songwriting, “Usually my songs have a big backstory, layers of meaning and hidden codes, but this one is different. I find it hard to talk about because for once I just put it all in the track. Everything you need to know and feel is written in there, and I fear anything I say now might break its magic somehow.”

Initially written in a raw, acoustic moment, ‘Ferris Wheel’ always felt larger in Tig’s mind. Working with acclaimed ARIA-nominated producer Oscar Dawson (Holy Holy), she found a collaborator who instinctively understood the song’s scale and emotional weight, letting its original feeling remain intact while expanding its sonic world.

“It was one of those songs that just poured out of me and remained unchanged. I would play it solo, just me and my keyboard, but in my head I knew it was bigger, louder. When I brought it to Oscar, he understood it completely. It seems risky to admit to favourites, but I never once don’t feel this one deep in my core.”

Written and performed by Tig, ‘Ferris Wheel’ features Dawson on guitar and synths, with drums by Hannes Lackmann and mastering by Malcolm Besley. Together, the collaborators bring scale and movement to a song whose emotional power lies in its restraint: the things left unsaid, the traditions we return to.

Stream ‘Ferris Wheel’ by Tig

The single follows ‘Alice Says’ and ‘Morning Pages’, two releases that continue establishing Tig as one of Australia’s best emerging songwriters. ‘Alice Says’ made an impressive impact across the AMRAP Community Radio Airplay Charts, reaching No. 6 nationally, No. 2 on the Metro chart and No. 1 on the Indie / Alternative chart. ‘Morning Pages’, a moody, minimalist ballad and gentle salve for reformed perfectionists and fellow creatives, opened yet another window into Tig’s introspective songwriting world.

The forthcoming LP It’s Time We Met builds on the momentum of Tig’s 2024 debut EP, Inside Voices, co-produced with Jono Steer. The release earned early acclaim, with Forte Mag calling it “unbelievable”, and saw Tig sell out hometown headline shows, release a secret 7-inch vinyl run and secure support slots with Pierce Brothers, Kim Churchill and Ainslie Wills.

Drawing influence from artists including Phoebe Bridgers, Sharon Van Etten and Tommy Lefroy, Tig distils big emotions into intimate, dreamlike folk-pop time capsules. Her songs feel like treasured wisdom shared between old friends, or a conversation with someone who understands that the most important things are not always the easiest to say.

With ‘Ferris Wheel’, Tig offers a glimpse of the upcoming album and explores the beautiful messiness of growing up human, learning to let go, listen, and keep showing up for the people who matter.

HARBOURLIFE ’’RETURNS FOR 2026 WITH HONEY DIJON, MAX AND LUKE DEAN, AND A NEW LOOK

STARRING (A-Z)
HONEY DIJON (USA)
MAX DEAN (UK) B2B LUKE DEAN (UK)

PLUS (A-Z)
BEN STERLING (UK) B2B OMAR+ (UK)
HONEYLUV (USA)
JORDAN BRANDO (AUS)
MORGAN SEATREE (UK)

PLUS (A-Z)
BELLA BACKE (AUS)
AMANTHA LOVERIDGE (AUS)

Across three decades, HARBOURLIFE has remained one of Sydney’s defining summer events. Returning to Fleet Steps at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair on Saturday 21 November, the 2026 edition arrives with a new visual identity, a bigger and better sound than ever before and a lineup spanning global house icons and the names shaping dancefloors right now. Framed by Sydney Harbour from day into night, Harbourlife continues to occupy a lane of its own: world-class electronic music in one of the world’s most iconic settings.

Raised on the south side of Chicago during the birth of house music, HONEY DIJON has spent three decades building something that goes well beyond the booth. Her sets move between house, disco and euphoria with a fluency that only comes from truly living it. Riding high on the release of her new album The Nightlife, featuring an incredible cast of collaborators including Chlöe, Mahalia and Greentea Peng, she arrives at Harbourlife at the peak of her powers.

Fresh off their Coachella debut together at the Yuma Tent, London cousins MAX DEAN and LUKE DEAN bring one of the most exciting b2b sets in the game to Harbourlife. Their joint single Can’t Decide has clocked 63 million Spotify streams and spent nine weeks in the UK Top 40. They have been in each other’s ears their whole lives and it shows.

Already collaborators on this year’s Out of My Mind, BEN STERLING and OMAR+ arrive with a chemistry already road-tested. Sterling’s raw acid-flecked house production wrapped around Omar+’s RnB-inflected vocals is a combination that hits differently in a booth than it does on record.

Named BBC Radio 1 Future Star of 2023, HONEYLUV has built her reputation on sets that move between bass-heavy house, baile funk, garage and spoken word with a restless, room-reading instinct that is entirely her own. Fresh from releasing Don’t Stop with Grammy-winning Muni Long, she is an artist crossing into new territory without losing what made her special in the first place.

Rooted in club culture and years of long sets across Australia and Europe, JORDAN BRANDO’s releases on Life and Death and No Art have made him one of Melbourne’s most respected exports. And for the final name of my the sharp end of Sydney talent, two artists who have been steadily building their reputations on Australian dancefloors.

Alongside the 2026 lineup comes Harbourlife’s first full rebrand in more than two decades, introducing a refined new visual identity and major upgrades to sound across the site. Inspired by the energy and atmosphere of Sydney Harbour itself, the new look marks a new chapter for one of Australia’s most iconic open-air dance events. Summer starts with us.

Tickets go on sale from Wednesday 3 June via Moshtix, with Ticket Request opening Tuesday 26 May and presale Tuesday 2 June.

VOYAGER Release New Single ‘Secret’
Catch An Evening With Voyager This November.

Renowned for their signature blend of uplifting yet melancholy progressive pop metal, Australia’s national treasures Voyager have returned after an unplanned hiatus. In a turbulent twist of events following the band’s post-Eurovision success, the upwards trajectory of the band took an unexpected downturn in September 2023, with Danny Estrin being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

Having undergone a significant amount of treatment since then, the future of Voyager was always uncertain. The band cancelled all international touring plans, and for a while it was uncertain if Danny would even be able to sing again. The sense of universal devastation felt for Danny and the band was palpable, and the outpouring of love and support from Voyager’s longtime and newfound fans provided solace in challenging times.

However, 2026 has witnessed the band’s incredible comeback, with the band making an explosive return to the stage in Europe this summer. Voyager debuted their Evening With format in Tilburg and London, with festival sets at Radar and then a quick jaunt to headline
Progpower USA.

Ahead of their Australian run, the band have revealed a brand new single called ‘Secret’.

Danny says this about the song: “Secret is a return to classic Voyager 80s melodies, big grooves and big solos; we are so excited to unleash this banger of a track onto the world. What’s the secret? Only Voyager knows and we’re not telling you..”

BAD WOLVES Release New Version Of “Jolene” Featuring Dolly Parton
Benefiting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

Dolly Parton’s vocals are newly mixed by her longtime producer Kent Wells,
and the official music video features young musicians from Nashville’s School of Rock.

Bad Wolves have released “Jolene” (with Dolly Parton) through Better Noise Music

Listen to it here
https://badwolves.lnk.to/Jolene-FeatDollyParton

The new recording pairs the band’s hard-rock take on Parton’s 1974 iconic hit, this time with her own vocals included. This new version was made with the support and approval of the Estate of Dolly Parton. Like the original cover version released on August 31, proceeds will be donated to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, committed to improving early childhood literacy around the world.

Before her passing, Bad Wolves shared their cover of “Jolene” with Dolly and her team. Since the release of the original cover, Dolly’s team helped bring her voice to the track, supplying previously recorded stems mixed for this release by Kent Wells.

Earlier this month, Bad Wolves and Better Noise Music joined Dolly’s team at NOZ Studios to hear the finished track together for the first time. The session inspired the band to pay it forward. They invited students from Nashville’s School of Rock to appear alongside them in the official music video.

Watch it here
https://badwolves.lnk.to/Jolene-MusicVideo

“Bad Wolves and the kids from The School Of Rock performed ‘Jolene’ with raw passion, heavy grit, and zero compromise. This is the same independent spirit Dolly Parton used to build The Imagination Library from the ground up. Having witnessed the challenges her own father faced with illiteracy, Dolly didn’t wait for someone else to fix the problem, she used her platform to make a difference. She found a way to start sending free books to children to promote literacy and a love of reading because it was important to her. Right now, Dolly’s foundation, The School Of Rock, and Bad Wolves are calling on every artist to honor Dolly’s legacy by using their platform to support this effort and make a difference in children’s lives. Leverage your independent strength to help give the next generation the future they deserve,” says Better Noise Music chairman
Allen Kovac.

“Being able to raise money for Dolly’s charity is an honor, and being able to work with the kids from the Nashville School of Rock was an amazing experience,” states Bad Wolves’
John Boecklin.

“At School of Rock, our mission is to enrich lives through performance-based music education while building a passionate community of students and instructors. Dolly Parton has long been a favorite artist within our school—not only because of her extraordinary musical legacy, but also because of the joy she has brought to generations of fans and her enduring commitment to education. Supporting the Imagination Library through this project is a meaningful way to celebrate Dolly, give back to a cause she champions, and express our deep admiration for her legacy. Our students were thrilled to be part of creating this video, and their energy, enthusiasm, and genuine desire to support the cause made the experience especially rewarding. Dolly Parton will always be a ROCKSTAR at the Nashville School of Rock, and we are proud to honor her legacy through the power of music and the next generation of performers,” enthuses
Angie McCreight, Owner of Nashville School Of Rock

“Jolene with Dolly Parton” is available today on all major streaming and download platforms. Every stream and every download puts more books in the hands of more kids.

ABOUT DOLLY PARTON’S IMAGINATION LIBRARY
Launched in 1995, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is the world’s leading early childhood book-gifting program and the flagship initiative of The Dollywood Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Since its founding, the program has gifted more than 300 million free books to children across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland. Each month, the Imagination Library mails over 3 million high-quality, age-appropriate books directly to children’s homes. Every enrolled child receives one book per month from birth to age five, at no cost to families.

Inspired by her father’s inability to read and write, Dolly created the Imagination Library in her hometown of Sevier County, Tennessee, to inspire a love of reading from the earliest years. In true Dolly fashion, she soon shared that dream with other communities that wanted to give their children the same opportunity to Dream More, Learn More, Care More, and Be More.

The program is made possible through the continued support of Dolly’s Estate and The Dollywood Foundation, which invest in the partnerships, resources and systems that empower thousands of Local Program Partners. These local partners build awareness and provide the funding needed to cover the wholesale cost of the books and mailing for children in their communities. Together, this unique partnership helps place books into the homes—and hearts—of millions of children around the world.

PANDA BEAR Announces pb band live 25 at power station

17-Track Live Album Due Out December 11 via Domino Documents

Listen to “Take Pills (Live at Power Station)” Now

In 2025, after decades behind the drum kit and electronics in Animal Collective and his solo project as Panda Bear, Noah Lennox stepped into a new role: the frontman of a band. On his latest Panda Bear album Sinister Grift, Lennox and his co-producer, Animal Collective bandmate Josh “Deakin” Dibb, created an invitingly warm and immediate sound using the elements of a traditional rock-and-roll ensemble – guitar, bass, keys, drums, most played by Lennox himself. To reproduce those instrumental layers live, Lennox assembled a Panda Bear touring band for the very first time – with himself on lead vocals and guitar, Tim Koh on bass, Rivka Ravede on sampler, Maria Reis on keyboards and percussion, Tomé Silva on drums, and all four on backing vocals. The result was a thrilling new chapter in the Panda Bear story – the signature psychedelic soundscapes now injected with the richness of live instrumentation and harmonies and the pure charm of five crack musicians blending and bouncing and riffing off each other on stage. It was a moment that deserved documentation, and in the fall of 2025, following the initial leg of the Sinister Grift tour in the UK and Europe, the band gathered at the legendary Power Station recording studio in New York City to record pb band live 25 at power station, a 17-track live album that will be released on December 11 via Domino Documents.

The quintet was joined by Dibb at the helm as producer and laid down a plethora of the tracks they’d been honing on stage for the last few months. The many highlights from Sinister Grift are present – tracks like “Ferry Lady,” “Ends Meet,” “Praise,” and “Just As Well” bubble and zing with flair – and so are high watermarks from across the Panda Bear catalog – stately versions of “Slow Motion,” “Alsatian Darn,” and the title track from 2011’s Tomboy; a mesmerizing “Sequential Circuits” from 2015’s Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper; a stirring rendition of “Inner Monologue” from 2019’s Buoys and a jangly, joyous take on that album’s title track; a divine “Take Pills” from 2007’s epochal Person Pitch. Perhaps most precious of all are the unexpected rarities that the band had been incorporating into their set lists – a bewitching remix of the Notwist’s “Boneless,” released back in 2008; EP tracks “Shepard Tone” (from 2018’s A Day With the Homies) and “The Preakness” (from 2015’s Crosswords); the eminently delightful “Song For Ariel,” an early Panda Bear track dating back to 2007 (it eventually evolved into Animal Collective’s “Guys Eyes”) that the band also performed for NPR’s Tiny Desk earlier in the year.

Stream “Take Pills (Live at Power Station)” here.

pb band live 25 at power station is a testament to Lennox’s lifelong artistic gifts – his astonishingly elastic voice and his uncanny ear for melody – and to the new vitality and human intimacy this group of musicians infused into those melodies night after night. Listening to the way these songs that span nearly twenty years of experimentation warp and weave into each other, one can feel the dual joy of being a Panda Bear fan in the audience in 2025 – the live debut of a set of exuberant new music alongside songs they had been listening to for years and years and were now, in a way, hearing for the first time.

pb band live 25 at power station will be released on limited edition double vinyl, CD, and digital. It is available for pre-order now: Dom Mart | Digital

SYDNEY R&B BREAKOUT STAR RIAH TO SUPPORT ASHANTI ON
2026 AUSTRALIAN TOUR

AU & NZ SHOWS KICK OFF THIS NOVEMBER – LIMITED TICKETS REMAIN

TICKETS

With only weeks to go until Australian and New Zealand fans welcome GRAMMY winning singer/songwriter and artist ASHANTI back to their shores, additional buzz has been added today with the announcement of RIAH as national support for ASHANTI’s Australian shows.

The R&B singer/songwriter from southwest Sydney has had a massive few years, making her impact on the Australian scene in a short, but prolific period of time. Winning the Triple J Unearthed High Indigenous Initiative in 2024, RIAH was then handpicked by The Kid LAROI to perform at his wildly successful SXSW Sydney showcase that same year. Since then, she has supported artists including Miss Kaninna, Budjerah, Electric Fields, BARKAA and more, while developing her own strong following as a headliner.

A proud Pasifika and Indigenous Australian woman, RIAH’s deep connection to her identity and culture (she is of Tongan, Fijian, Italian and Kamilaroi descent) has informed each step she has taken as an artist to date. Her rise and potential has been documented in It’s Not For You: Inside the Artists Rewriting The Rules of the Australian Music Industry, written by former Camp Cope bassist Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich, pointing towards just how much is still waiting to be uncovered when it comes to RIAH’s artistry.

‘Ashanti is R&B royalty! I am thrilled to join her on her National tour. We are ready to bring the energy, vocals and vibe to every single stage. Be prepared things are about to get HOT’  RIAH

Returning to Australia/NZ following an extensive run of international tour dates including a recent successful UK arena tour with Sean Paul, this new chapter for ASHANTI is one that is only adding to a career marked by numerous awards and accolades.

Tickets remain for her long-awaited Australian and NZ return, with a waitlist available for fans in Melbourne who missed the initial opportunity to grab their tickets. As a change to her schedule, ASHANTI’s Melbourne show on Saturday 14 November is now taking place at the brand new live music venue, MELBOURNE CROWN LIVE.

ABOUT ASHANTI
One of music’s forever icons, ASHANTI has maintained her status as a genre champion since her debut, self-titled album launched her to global stardom in 2002. Earning her the #1 spot on both the Billboard Top 200 and R&B Charts and becoming the fastest-selling debut album by a female in history (per Soundscan), the ASHANTI album solidified the artist’s place as part of music’s DNA for a whole generation.

In the years that have followed, ASHANTI has built a catalogue of six studio albums and has received numerous Billboard Music Awards and American Music Awards alongside her GRAMMY, while also counting multiple Soul Train and ASCAP Awards among her extensive collection of awards and honours.

Among her biggest hits of course: ‘Foolish,’ her signature single and lead single from her self-titled album; ‘Rock Wit U (Awww Baby),’ taken from her Chapter II record and more recently experienced a resurgence when sampled by British artist Aitch; and ‘Only U’ from her Concrete Rose record, a defining shift in sound that became a club favourite. As a collaborator as well, ASHANTI was a voice of a generation and teamed up with the likes of JA RULE (‘Always On Time,’ ‘Mesmerize’), FAT JOE (‘What’s Luv?’) and FABOLOUS (‘Into You’).

She has sold over 30 million albums to date, while also having ventured into film successfully, starring in and producing projects alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Sharon Stone, Susan Sarandon and more. A decorated author and ambassador of various youth organisations and initiatives in the United States, ASHANTI has long used her platform for advocacy and artistry, while consistently being recognised for her contributions to music and recording. In April 2022, ASHANTI received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

BLOODBATH (Sweden) Announce Australian Tour with NERVOCHAOS (Brazil) – February & March 2027

Swedish Death Metal Icons Return to Australia with Brazilian Death Metal Veterans NervoChaos as Main Support

Two of the world’s most respected names in extreme metal are joining forces for an unmissable Australian invasion. Swedish death metal icons BLOODBATH will return to Australia in February and March 2027, bringing Brazilian extreme metal veterans NervoChaos as their main support for the entire national tour.

For the first time since 2019, Bloodbath will unleash their devastating brand of Swedish death metal across the country, with NervoChaos joining them for every tour date before both bands culminate the run with special co-headline performances at Perth Dethfest 2027 and Melbourne Dethfest 2027.

This exclusive Australian run will unite the crushing sound of classic Swedish death metal with the savage intensity of Brazil’s underground, delivering a month of relentless riffs, blast beats and extreme metal destruction.

BLOODBATH – SWEDISH DEATH METAL

Founded in 1998, Bloodbath has become one of the defining names in modern death metal. Originally formed by members of Opeth, Katatonia and Paradise Lost, the band has built a formidable reputation through landmark releases including Resurrection Through Carnage, Nightmares Made Flesh, The Fathomless Mastery, Grand Morbid Funeral and Survival of the Sickest.

Renowned for their uncompromising sound, crushing HM-2 guitar tone and devastating live performances, Bloodbath remain one of Sweden’s most celebrated exports in extreme music.

For the first time since 2019, Bloodbath return to Australia — bringing Swedish death metal back to the masses and teaching them the true meaning of Swedish Death Metal!

NERVOCHAOS – BRAZILIAN EXTREME METAL DESTRUCTION

Joining Bloodbath as the main support for the entire Australian tour, NervoChaos return to Australia for the first time since 2019, when they previously toured the country with Incantation.

Formed in São Paulo in 1996, NervoChaos have spent more than three decades forging a reputation as one of South America’s most relentless extreme metal forces. With an extensive catalogue of acclaimed releases and countless tours across Europe, Asia, North and South America, the Brazilians have earned worldwide respect for their ferocious live performances and unwavering dedication to the underground.

Fusing old-school death metal with blackened aggression and thrash intensity, NervoChaos have continued to evolve while maintaining the raw, uncompromising attitude that has defined the band since its formation.

With multiple albums released since their last Australian appearance, NervoChaos return to unleash a new level of Brazilian Extreme Metal Destruction on Australian audiences.

As Bloodbath’s main support, NervoChaos will be there for the entire Australian run — making this a rare opportunity to witness two international extreme metal forces on the same bill across the country.

TWO FORCES OF EXTREME METAL

Fans can expect career-spanning sets from both bands, featuring fan favourites, deep cuts and modern classics.

Bloodbath will deliver their unmistakable Swedish death metal assault, while NervoChaos will bring the savage energy and underground intensity that has made them one of Brazil’s most respected extreme metal exports.

The Australian tour will reach its ultimate finales at Perth Dethfest 2027 and Melbourne Dethfest 2027, where Bloodbath and NervoChaos will co-headline special festival performances alongside a devastating lineup showcasing the finest in death metal, black metal, grindcore and extreme music from around the world.

SIOBHAN COTCHIN – knows what she’s worth on new single ‘Top Shelf’

The Australian country artist trades dating disasters for a sharp-tongued country-rock anthem about knowing your worth, refusing to settle, and putting yourself first.

There’s nothing quite like spending an entire Friday night getting ready for a man who turns out to have the personality of a lukewarm beer… Perth-based country artist Siobhan Cotchin knows the feeling, and she’s turning it into something useful.

Arriving Friday 13 November, new single ‘Top Shelf’ is a cheeky, sharp-witted take on modern dating, self-worth and the art of finally raising your standards. Blending country swagger with rock ’n’ roll grit and pop sensibility, it finds Cotchin at her most playful, fiery and unapologetic yet.

“I finally realised I deserve better than settling for whoever happens to be standing in front of me,” says Cotchin. “I’m top shelf. The good stuff. The bottle you have to ask the bartender to get the little ladder for.”

Written with Francesca De Valence during BIGSOUND in Brisbane, ‘Top Shelf’ began, as many great songs do, with a rant. After swapping stories about dating disasters and being ghosted, the pair had a song on their hands within a couple of hours. Its killer line, “I’m not taking myself off the top shelf just ’cause you can’t reach it”, says it all: knowing your worth is one thing, but refusing to make yourself smaller for someone else is another.

Equal parts self-deprecating and self-assured, the track pokes fun at the questionable decisions we make in the name of romance, from shaving your legs for a date to sacrificing a Friday night with your friends for someone who barely asks you a question. Beneath the punchlines, though, is a harder-won lesson about protecting your peace and recognising when someone simply isn’t worth the effort.

Sonically, Cotchin and producer Dylan Ollivierre drew inspiration from the raw fire of Miranda Lambert’s ‘Baggage Claim’ and the sharp country-pop attitude of Chappell Roan’s ‘The Giver’. The result is a spirited collision of country, rock and pop, featuring her band: Finn Pearson on bass, Regan Dale on drums, Nick Gray on lead guitar, with the addition of fiddle from Daniel Drieberg and pedal steel from Ronan Nicholson.

‘Top Shelf’ marks an exciting new chapter for Cotchin, showcasing a lighter, more mischievous side. Trading heartbreak for humour and self-deprecation for a little well-earned confidence, the single finds Cotchin embracing her sharp wit, country swagger and unapologetic sense of self. It’s a fresh perspective from an artist who’s always had plenty to say, and isn’t afraid to have a little fun saying it.

A multiple WAM Award winner, including the Grand Prize for WAM Song of the Year, Cotchin has built a reputation as one of Western Australia’s most compelling country voices. From sharing arena stages with Matchbox Twenty and the Goo Goo Dolls to appearing at Bluesfest, Laneway Festival and BIGSOUND, she has consistently paired an unmistakable voice with a songwriter’s eye for the details that make us laugh, wince and recognise ourselves.

With ‘Top Shelf’, she’s less interested in being the girl waiting to be picked and more interested in enjoying the view from up high. After all, if they can’t reach it, that’s hardly her problem.

Siobhan Cotchin’s new single ‘Top Shelf’ is out 13 November via MGM.

More about Siobhan Cotchin
Siobhan Cotchin is a Western Australian country artist with a storyteller’s eye, a rock ’n’ roll pulse and the kind of voice that can silence a room or tear straight through it. Her songs are raw, sharply observed and unafraid of the mess: desire, rejection, self-destruction and the brutal human need to be chosen.

Country has always run through her songwriting; and she has established herself as one of the most compelling voices in modern Australian country.

Siobhan has already proven she can command stages at every level. In 2024, she joined Matchbox Twenty and Goo Goo Dolls on their sold-out Australian arena tour, performing to thousands of people night after night. Across her career, she has also shared stages with Kasey Chambers, The Waifs, Rob Thomas, Killing Heidi, Leon Bridges, Spacey Jane and Boy & Bear, bringing the same conviction to an intimate room as she does to an arena.

A multiple WAM Award winner-including Best Country Act and the Grand Prize for WAM Song of the Year-Siobhan has reached number one on the AMRAP chart and received airplay across triple j, Double J, ABC Country and US college radio. Her festival history includes Bluesfest, Laneway Festival, BIGSOUND, SXSW Sydney, Dashville Skyline and Boyup Brook Country Music Festival.

Following Nashville writing sessions and a feature in Rolling Stone Australia’s 2025 “Females in Focus” series, Siobhan is stepping into the strongest chapter of her career with a record that knows exactly what it is, and an artist ready to meet the scale of its ambition.

SOLA ROSA PLOTS FIRST AUSTRALIAN TOUR IN OVER A DECADE

IN THE MIDS DELUXE EDITION SET FOR FEBRUARY 2027

Acclaimed NZ producer, songwriter & artist SOLA ROSA (AKA Andrew Spraggon) has today announced his return to Australian shores for the first time in over 10 years, with headline shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Gold Coast set for March 2027.

Hot off the back of his celebrated eighth studio album IN THE MIDS which dropped in April this year, this tour follows on from a successful New Zealand run, including sell outs at Puketapu Hall (Hawke’s Bay) and San Fran (Wellington). The Auckland-based artist will be bringing his groove-driven set to Australian audiences with a new live format, featuring a new three-piece ensemble and a full AV show in-tow.

“It’s been way too long since I’ve played in Australia, so I’m really looking forward to getting back over. A lot of time and thought has gone into this new show. It’s stripped back to a three-piece, with the production front and centre and visuals from Creature Post running through the whole set. We road-tested it on the New Zealand tour earlier this year and it went down really well with the crowds, so I can’t wait to bring it to Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.” SOLA ROSA

‘IN THE MIDS’ saw Spraggon further his dive into the sounds of electronic, R&B, Funk, Soul & Beats – collaborating with the likes of Muroki, Wallace, Blush’ko, Akosia and Iva Lamkum on the record. Featuring singles ‘Jupiter (ft. Iva Lamkum)’, ‘Losing Time (ft. Muroki)’ and the dynamic ‘Like A Light In The Dark (ft. BRŪDE)’, the record is a love letter to the mix of genres that has become the blueprint for his signature style of production and arrangement.

Just prior to the Australian tour, Sola Rosa will be releasing a deluxe version of In The Mids, featuring remixes and edits of the album tracks – set for release in February of 2027.

Across his career, Spraggon has grown a global fanbase for his unique brand of music – with over 65 million streams to his name. He has previously performed at Secret Garden Party (UK), WOMAD (NZ), Kendal Calling (UK), Green Man (UK) and Shambala (UK), as well as countless tours across Europe and the US.

Tickets for his upcoming Australian tour are on sale now, more info via solarosa.com.

NEWCASTLE’S KILLIAN FAYE BRINGS EMOTIONAL SIGNATURE TO NEW SINGLE ‘THIS IS WHAT I LIVE FOR’

KILLIAN FAYE continues to demonstrate spirit and exciting potential, today sharing his brand new single in ‘THIS IS WHAT I LIVE FOR’. The songwriter and musician from Newcastle releases this fresh cut of music – his second for 2026 – with unmistakable confidence and purpose at its core.

The song is purposeful and as Killian describes, has been created to “be a proper singalong”. Recorded at home in Newcastle, the musician pours vulnerability and raw passion into the track, with the final result being a soaring indie rock moment that ties authenticity and cinematic energy together as one.

“‘This Is What I Live For’ is about embracing the experiences that make us who we are; the heartbreak, the love, the scars and the dreams and finding reasons to keep moving forward. I wanted it to feel like an anthem that people could make their own. Whatever you live for, whatever gets you through the hard days, this is a song to sing at the top of your lungs and celebrate that.

I wanted this one to be a proper singalong. Something you turn up in the car and find yourself belting out before it’s even finished. I love big, atmospheric rock, and I wanted to put that energy behind a chorus that sticks with you. The words are simple, but when you think about the people and experiences that make life mean something to you, there’s a lot behind them.”
KILLIAN FAYE

‘This Is What I Live For’ follows on from the artist’s debut single – ‘Break It Down’ – an offering that gave us an early insight into the way Killian weaves emotion together with tight lyricism and storytelling. Leading with soul, Killian has explained that their music “stands for honesty, courage, and connection”, a reminder to listeners “that scars are proof of strength, silence is meant to be broken, and even our darkest moments can spark our brightest truths.”

‘THIS IS WHAT I LIVE FOR’ is released Wednesday 28 October

MARCELLE PHOENIX ‘SCARRED’ (SINGLE)

THE SONG Some marks become part of the pattern.

Scarred pulls at the places where hurt, strength and starting again meet.

Sometimes the hardest moments leave behind something we couldn’t have found any other way.

No neat ending.

Just the messy business of being human, going round again and finding our way forward.

Still here. Still strong.

THE SOUND Melodic, guitar-driven rock/pop with emotional grit — about the marks life leaves on us, and the unexpected strength we can find in them.

ABOUT MARCELLA PHEONIX Marcelle Phoenix is a Melbourne based singer-songwriter who pulls at the edges and isn’t afraid of what unravels. A magnetic storyteller with a potent, unmistakable voice, her music embraces the messy realities of being human.

THE STORY Once, there was a girl who grew up inside stories that were too big for the room.

Opera voices filled the air, dramatic and aching, and something inside her cracked open and stayed that way.

Her name is Marcelle Phoenix.

She learned early how to move, how to listen, how to stand inside emotion. She studied music at the Melbourne Conservatorium, danced ballet, played dress-up in drama rooms, and stepped briefly into other people’s lives on television screens. But none of it quite fit. The boxes were too neat. The rules too tight.

Marcelle tried to be the kind of singer she was meant to be. She learned the forms, the discipline, the tradition. Still, a small voice kept knocking from the inside—asking to cry louder, scream longer, tell the truth without polishing it first. So she stopped behaving.

She began writing songs the way children tell stories—honestly, dramatically, without apology. Her music became a place where smouldering guitars and hook-heavy grooves could sit together, where melody leads and emotion is allowed to spill.

Marcelle Phoenix makes music for the weeping child, the dreaming child, the one who refuses to be quiet. Songs about pain are meant to hurt. Songs about play are meant to play.

She no longer edits herself.

She follows the sound forward.

This is where she’s landed.

Falling Forward.

MARK LANG releases debut album Wild Swan

It’s so much more than an album. It’s beautiful in and of itself as a body of music, but it also feels like an act of generosity, an invite into a beautiful world and the opportunity to slow down and explore it.  – Jenny Valentish

Renowned lyricist and storyteller, Mark Lang (Skipping Girl Vinegar), releases his debut solo album Wild Swan on 27th Oct via MGM. A celebration of love, Wild Swan documents the poetic language of his son, and revels in the long journey of trying to understand yourself, difference, place and family. Exploring the hazy space of memories, it mourns the passing of time, and celebrates the love of those we hold close.

Written and recorded over a 3 year period between his small Australian coastal village and Nashville USA. Mark worked with long-time collaborators and producers Nick Huggins (The Dirty Three, Jen Cloher) and Brad Jones (Ron Sexsmith, John Prine). The three friends uncovered a new sonic landscape for Lang’s songwriting to inhabit, delivering a masterful piece of work.

“I watched storm boy a lot as a kid, it became a dream for my own life to be by the ocean, even though modern life is more complicated. There’s a sadness about how hard it is to maintain the simplicity we are yearning for.  Finding our way back to a time before technology took over and a reminder to treasure the embrace of your lovely dreamers.

Once in the studio, improvised musical experiments uncovered unexamined truths, and a world started to form. A flock of songbirds, filling the sky, carried many of the questions we all ask ourselves. How do we show up for the people around us? How do I use the time I have? What on earth am I doing?

I think because the conscious mind wasn’t as involved in both the writing and performance , it’s why this album probably feels the most honest of anything I’ve ever made.”

Likeminded collaborators were central to this project. Japanese artist Yukako Manabe flew to Australia and the pair spent days meandering the sandy paths that led to the dunes, under the tunnel of moonah tree branches. They talked about the migratory birds that fly from Japan to these very wetlands, and as they walked towards the lighthouse, a magpie landed on a fence post and began to sing. Yukako spoke back, as if the two were in conversation. It was fitting, Mark thought, when the album itself is a dialogue with nature. Yukako would create the dreamlike illustrations that appear throughout Wild Swan’s vinyl gatefold jacket, as well as the artwork to the 24-page lyric booklet.

Mark Lang has written three critically acclaimed albums, making many album of the year lists as the singer-songwriter of Australian indie band Skipping Girl Vinegar. He has thrilled audiences from the main stages at Australia’s premier festivals, including solo shows at Bluesfest, Cambridge Folk Festival (UK), Stanfest (CA), Port Fairy Folk Festival, Splendour In The Grass, Woodford Folk, Falls Festival and many more. Mark’s work has received extensive airplay on major national broadcasters Triple J, ABC, Double J and community radio, as well as US college radio play with 7 weeks in the Top 100 CMJ charts, and numerous #1 & #2 positions across the US.

Mark toured his debut solo E.P extensively across Europe and North America including a sold out Australian tour. After a sold out show at Hamer Hall with Melbourne Indie Voices and fresh off the back of a North American tour, including the legendary Canadian festival Stanfest, Mark returns home to release his debut solo album Wild Swan.

Joshua Burnside is an experimental folk songwriter, singer and producer.

He takes influence from alternative electronica and Irish traditional song heritages, chopping and blending them with a mixture of found sounds, world music and unorthodox production methods.

Taking in the economics of existence, family, trauma and renewal, while set against a backdrop of tense electronica and lush Irish folk and traditional songwriting.

Joshua’s critically acclaimed “Teeth of Time” (2005) was a BBC6 Music Album of the Year, nominated for multiple awards including 2025 Choice RTE Irish Album of the Year, 2025 Folk Album of the Year,  RTE 1 Folk Awards and the NI Music Prize for Best Album (where he was also nominated for Single of the Year and Live Act of the Year), and received glowing support from the likes of MOJO, Uncut, Songlines, Irish Times, KLOF Mag and, The Thin Air, Nialler 9, Hot Press, BBC Alba, BBC Radio 2 & BBC 6Music

SYDNEY PHILHARMONIA CHOIRS PRESENTS WORLD O WORLD VOX 25TH ANNIVERSARY

“…cinematic, meditative, calming and completely unforgettable and it was greeted with a collective “wow!” – Limelight, 2025 –

“…spellbound from start to finish… Bravo!” – Eastside FM, 2025 –

Sydney Philharmonia Choirs celebrates 25 years of its acclaimed young-adult ensemble VOX with World O World, a special anniversary concert presented in Bathurst on Saturday 14 November and Sydney’s White Bay Power Station on Saturday 21 November.

Founded in 2001, VOX has earned critical acclaim for its fresh, expressive performances. To mark the milestone, conductor Elizabeth Scott, celebrating her own 20-year association with the ensemble, has curated a program that revisits the choir’s origins and highlights their distinctive artistic identity.

As a highlight of the program, VOX will perform Jacob Collier’s World O World, a striking hymn by the Grammy Award-winning British composer, arranger and vocalist whose genre-defying approach has made him one of the most influential musical voices of his generation.

The anniversary celebration also comes full circle with the return of Australian composer Dan Walker, commissioned to write Archangelo for VOX’s inaugural performance in 2001. Twenty-five years later, Walker has created a brand-new work, Persephone as a Whistling Moth, continuing a longstanding commitment to nurturing Australian composition and emerging artistic voices.

Spanning new music from SPC Emerging Composers Courtney Cousins and Callum O’Reilly, alongside works by Australian composers Alice Chance, Aija Draguns and Ben van Tienan, and luminous choral masterworks by Arvo Pärt, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Eric Whitacre and Pärt Uusberg, the program showcases the rich, contemporary choral sound for which VOX has become renowned.

Elizabeth Scott said: “I am immensely proud of the talented singers of VOX and the passion, dedication and artistry they bring to every performance. These are the voices of tomorrow, reminding us of the unique power and joy of singing together and ensuring that choral music continues to thrive for generations to come.”

Blending beloved repertoire, new commissions and the return of VOX alumni, World O World is both a celebration of the ensemble’s remarkable legacy and an exciting glimpse into the next chapter of one of Australia’s most innovative vocal groups.
