The first single to follow from the acclaimed 2023 album Honey Dates Death / Ghazals, STRANGER was recorded at the Rat Shack with Rob Muinos and features George Carroll Wilson on drums, Guy Perkins on bass, Fenn on vocals, electric and acoustic guitar with backing vocals by George Carroll Wilson and Georgia Knight. Produced by Rob Muinos and Fenn Wilson the track was Mastered by Jordan Power.

Fenn, along with his band, The Weather, comprising George Carroll Wilson on drums, Guy Perkins on bass and Mika Kohlman on saxophones, have been busy this year writing a bunch of sharp and brilliant new songs, blooding them at gigs and festivals in Melbourne and Sydney. The band will be embarking on a summer tour to promote the new single and will include appearances at Queenscliff Music Festival, Folk Rhythm and Life & Birregurra Festival.

The bands live show is nothing short of riveting, delivering skintight arrangements of post punk alternative rock peppered with pop-noir hooks and coupled with the intuitive musicianship and discipline that comes with lives spent playing. Inspiration is drawn from the cityscape around them, love and existentialism, Imagine Television with Jeff Buckley or Scott Walker at the mic.

STRANGER will not be available on Spotify due to their CEO’s funding of military companies and long standing undervaluing of music however it will be available on all other streaming platforms.

RUBY JONES ‘Bad ideas’ (SINGLE) + LAUNCH SHOW

Naarm/Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Ruby Jones returns with ‘Bad Ideas’, the next taste of her upcoming album Souvenir, slated for release in 2026. A lush and defiant desert country psychedelia anthem, ‘Bad Ideas’ blends the haunting emotional clarity of Emmylou Harris with the cinematic sweep of Weyes Blood, drawing on sonic echoes of Fleetwood Mac, Angel Olsen, and Florence and the Machine, out Wednesday 29 October via Xelon.

Beneath its shimmering, analogue-washed exterior, ‘Bad Ideas’ confronts themes of Catholic guilt, repression, and the inner turmoil of suppressing one’s darker impulses. Ruby describes the track as “a cathartic release, an exorcism you can dance to.” She continues: “It’s about shaking loose the shame and repression we all feel, at least I do, and transforming it into something wild and beautiful… Perhaps it’s a little odd to write an Americana song about Catholic guilt, but it felt right for this record and for me.”

‘Bad Ideas’ pulses with a driving energy to make listeners move, shake, and feel the liberation that comes with emotional honesty. Written through a series of long-distance collaborations between Ruby and long-time creative partner Jules Pascoe (Husky, Jazz Party, Jaala), the song emerged from a digital back-and-forth of musical musings, eventually taking shape across two analogue recording spaces. The use of vintage gear and 1970s tape machines lends ‘Bad Ideas’ a textured warmth and immediacy that feels both nostalgic and fresh.

‘Bad Ideas’ offers yet another glimpse into Souvenir, a record that explores themes such as intergenerational trauma, climate grief, and rebirth, all while retaining the emotionally raw and poetic lyricism that marked her 2021 debut, The Woman Who Loves You. That release, which earned her high rotation on Double J, a sold-out launch at The Curtin, and runner-up in the Darebin Fuse Songwriters Award, cemented her as one of Australia’s most compelling and respected voices.

A former member of Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes, Ruby was also awarded one of the Upstart Music Awards and was shortlisted for the International Songwriting Competition (2025), affirming her status as a songwriter of rare depth and vision. Her rich musical lineage and acclaimed live presence are channelled into this next chapter, one marked by bold sonic exploration, spiritual reckoning, and the kind of songwriting that doesn’t flinch from the mess and magic of being alive.

As her new single ‘Too Damn Hot’ continues its unstoppable climb on the Country Radio Charts, Australian artist Rachael Fahim today unveils the accompanying official video filmed in Sydney.

Fresh off a recent trip to Nashville, it didn’t take the country-pop artist long to rally creative director Sheisaphrodite and a group of her friends for the ‘Too Damn Hot’ video. The song is the perfect cocktail of the ups and the downs of life and love, and like all of Rachael’s songs, penned straight from her real life.

Produced by Robby De Sa (Flume, Vera Blue) and Liam Quinn (Dean Lewis, Rita Ora), ‘Too Damn Hot’ is a sassy pick-yourself-up anthem, a country-pop ‘Good Luck Babe’ that intersects Rachael’s core themes of vulnerability and empowerment that embodies so much of her songwriting.

“I was at my sister’s engagement party, fresh off a breakup nobody knew about yet, and was trying hard to hold it together. Nikki and I slipped off to the bar for a life-debrief when I started crying. She listened to me for a while before abruptly interrupting and yelling at me (lovingly), “RACH YOU’RE TOO DAMN HOT TO CRY!” resulting in us both bursting into laughter. I wrote the words in my phone and totally stole her line, but I don’t think she minds – she’s proudly wearing the ‘muse’ crown! So, this song is me sending that message out to all the broken-hearted girls out there.”

‘Too Damn Hot’ is the capstone to a massive year for the singer-songwriter, which has included a huge 56-date national tour as special guest of Pete Murray, opening for Missy Higgins at Night On The Barracks , three hit singles in ‘Good Luck’ and ‘Who You Are’ (#2 on the country charts), following on from 2024’s ‘Dance Around it’ , and the announcement Rachael will support US super-star Jordan Davis on his arena run of Australian dates next year.

‘Who You Are’ joins an incredibly select list of Australian country songs to be embraced by pop radio, joining Keith Urban and Morgan Evans, but the first Australian based artist to hit the milestone first established by her hero Kasey Chambers with ‘Not Pretty Enough’ – one of the songs that inspired Rachael to pursue country music in the first place.

Rachael’s ability to connect with the audience at a massive pop show as well as hardcore country fans at festivals like CMC Rocks speaks both to her distinctive blend of country music with influences from pop singer-songwriters like Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo, but also to the way that people fall in love with the beautifully transparent songwriting that reminds them of their own triumphs and struggles.

Hannah Acfield to Release Sophomore Album Golden Light – An Album of Love, Resilience and Connection

Acclaimed Melbourne singer-songwriter Hannah Acfield will release her sophomore studio album Golden Light on 7 November 2025 via her own imprint Toby Dog Records. The record is a luminous collection of songs about love, resilience and the moments that bind us together.
Blessed with a voice described by luminaries Joan Armatrading and Venetta Fields as “beautiful”, and “the best voice I’ve heard in a long time” respectively, and by The Weekend Australian as “an instrument of breathtaking dexterity that soars and swoops in equal measure” Hannah Acfield has built a solid reputation for powerful, heartfelt songwriting and spellbinding live performances.
Her new album arrives after a breakthrough run of singles – Truth, I Got You, and I’ll Always Be There – all of which have earned widespread community radio support in Australia, the UK, the USA and Canada, as well as strong playlisting and streaming engagement. Together, they have introduced listeners worldwide to Acfield’s distinctive blend of soul, folk and roots.Across its eleven tracks, Golden Light positions Acfield as an artist of rare depth, authenticity and soul, with a voice of clarity and songwriting that reflects both personal intimacy and broader stories of resilience, love and connection. Acfield’s debut solo album No Light Without Shade (2021) was created and released during Melbourne’s lockdowns, its themes steeped in reflection and resilience. It also marked the record where Acfield truly stepped into her voice. Until then, few had realised the full power of her singing — but with that release she revealed the command, intimacy and freedom she had always intended.

With Golden Light, Acfield carries that confidence forward. Still performed on electric guitar and infused with the soul and gospel influences that shape her songwriting, the new album takes a more organic step back towards folk – a genre Acfield has a long history with. The result is a sound that balances warmth, craft and depth while holding true to her evolving artistry.

The creation of Golden Light was, like its predecessor, not without hurdles. Acfield endured the devastating theft of her laptop and hard drives containing precious creative work, and grieved the sudden loss of a dear friend — one of the people she wrote I Got You for. Yet the album stands as a testament to resilience: a body of work that transforms hardship into hope, and personal loss into communal connection.

Golden Light was built from foundations recorded live in the studio with Acfield’s band, giving the record its organic energy, before being layered with additional vocals and Jonathan Dreyfus’ stirring string arrangements. The result is a rich and polished sound that recalls Lianne La Havas, Linda Ronstadt, Emily King, and Norah Jones while remaining uniquely Acfield’s own.

Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Hannah Acfield returns in 2025 with a new studio album “Golden Light”. Bad//Dreems release new single ‘Shadowland’, alongside short film series

Bad//Dreems’ ‘Shadowland’ is the first of a series of singles to be released on their newly minted label, Gutto Records, and the band’s first new music since their acclaimed 2023 LP Hoo-Ha!. The accompanying music video depicts a protagonist disconnected from himself and the world around him, and the search for a deeper sense of connection and meaning. It’s the first in a series of clips that will comprise a short film to be released in early 2026, directed by Kaius Potter and filmed around the northern fringes of Adelaide and beyond.

Coming off the back of their sold out 10th anniversary of Dogs at Bay tour, ‘Shadowland’ finds Bad//Dreems as vital and powerful as ever. In part inspired by the bands tour through Arnhem Land, it was recorded earlier this year with producer Dan Luscombe (Amyl and the Sniffers, Courtney Barnett) at Mixmasters Studios in Adelaide.

On the meaning behind the song, Alex Cameron explains that “Shadowland refers to the ever-present feeling that there is a world around us that remains unseen and unfelt. We really only see the shadows of the true country on which we live – fleeting glimpses through the veneer that has been laid down in the past 250 years. Travelling through Arnhem Land stripped away so much of this and exposed us to a country and culture that was vast, vivid and overwhelming, leaving the abiding feeling that we don’t really know anything about the true heart of this country. Shadowland is also about the Jungian shadow: the deeper aspects to our personality which we are aware of but often never truly know. It’s about trying to break free from the constraints placed upon us, and placed by us, to get better in touch with our world and selves”.

Revered as one of the most vital guitar acts in the country, Bad//Dreems have come a long way from their humble origins in an Adelaide whitegoods warehouse in 2012. Produced by Mark Opitz (AC/DC, INXS, Cold Chisel, The Angels, Divinyls), their debut album Dogs At Bay picked up nominations for an AIR Award (2015), National Live Music Award (2015), SA Music Awards ‘Best Live Act’ (2015), SA Music Awards ‘Best Release’ and ‘Best Group’ (2016) and was included as an honourable mention in Rolling Stone’s Greatest Australian Albums of All-Time. They drew plaudits from such diverse luminaries as The Avalanches and Cedric Bixler-Zavala (At the Drive In) both of whom chose the band as their Australian support act. Robert Forster of The Go-Betweens declared their song ‘My Only Friend’ “a masterpiece of Australian Rock”. The band followed this up with critically acclaimed albums, Gutful, Doomsday Ballet and Hoo Ha!, the latter of which garnered a nominated for ARIA’s ‘Best Rock Album’, placed at #2 on Double J’s 50 Best Albums of the Year and earned them a nomination for Double J Artist of the Year.

As well as taking inspiration from the isolation they felt growing up in the suburbs of Adelaide, Bad//Dreems’ song writing aims to strip away the veneer of comfortable Australian suburban life to reveal the bizarre, the dark, the twisted and the beautiful that lies beneath. With authenticity at its heart and a desire to challenge the status quo, Bad//Dreems capture the confusion and anger of their protagonists eking out an existence in today’s world (‘Cuffed & Collared’, ‘Low Life’, ‘Northern’), the suburban ennui (‘Desert Television’, ‘Hoping For’) and the terror of the angry (often male) mob (‘Mob Rule’, ‘Bogan Pride’). Whereas many of their contemporaries project their righteous anger outwards at the subject of their malcontent, Bad//Dreems vocalist Ben Marwe steps into the shoes of the protagonist, imbuing the songs with a unique cathartic quality – particularly evident in their live show.

Their notoriety as an unmissable live act has seen them tour extensively across Australia, UK and the US, with Bad//Dreems recently taking their Dogs At Bay 10th Anniversary Tour around the country to play the seminal songs that have left such a lasting impression on their fans. When Dogs At Bay was released in 2015, it exposed the raw, unfiltered soul of Australian suburban malaise and masculine vulnerability in a way that few albums at the time dared to. With its gruff guitars, defiant swagger and undercurrent of existential yearning, Dogs at Bay wasn’t just an album – it held a mirror up to a certain aspect of Australian psyche. Beyond its sonic punch, the album’s deeper impact lies in its legacy: it gave permission for a new wave of Australian rock to be both literate and loud, introspective yet raw and rough, paving the way for acts like Amyl and the Sniffers, The Chats and Pist Idiots, and the resurgence of pub rock as a vehicle for storytelling. As guitarist/songwriter Alex Cameron said at the time “We wanted to show that it was ok to like football and poetry.”

Bad//Dreems have also vehemently voiced their support for truth telling and the recognition of the ongoing mistreatment of Aboriginal people, demonstrated by Dogs at Bay closer ‘Sacred Ground’ and the anthemic ‘Jack’ which deals with the whitewashing of Australian history, as well and their iconic triple j Like A Version cover of Warumpi Band’s ‘Blackfella/Whitefella’ featuring Peter Garrett, Emily Wurramara and Mambali.

The band’s 2023 tour through Arnhem Land with Jabiru group Black Rock Band, and their performance at the 50th anniversary of the Wave Hill Walk-Off at Kalkarindji’s Freedom Day Festival, played a large role in the inspiration behind ‘Shadowland’ and their upcoming music.

Gutto Records ushers in a new beginning for the band, following on from band members Alex Cameron and Miles Wilson appearing on ABC 4 Corners episode Music for Sale in late 2024, where they discussed the difficulties many artists face to survive in the current industry. Now fiercely independent, ‘Shadowland’ will mark the second release on Bad//Dreems own label, after their first release, the Quality Meats live album, sold out in just two days.

Bathed in golden light and the hum of the open road, Meanjin/Brisbane-based country and folk artist Georgia Scarlett unveils a warming and inspiring new single, ‘Finding My Destination’. Blending country pop with heartfelt folk charm, this track arrives alongside the announcement of her debut album ‘Rhythm of Life’, out November 28.

First heard in 2024 with the release of her debut single and album title track, ‘Rhythm of Life’, Georgia Scarlett began charting a course through love, loss and the quiet power of time. Built on a foundation of full-bodied booming acoustic guitar, a thumping kick drum and hand percussion that claps in unison, ‘Setback’ emerges as a burst of optimism. Layered harmonies elevate the chorus into an anthemic chant, while Ethan Roberts’ playful, heartfelt vocal delivers the song’s message with charm and conviction. Equal parts country-folk and pop polish, it’s a track that turns adversity into momentum, reminding us that every stumble can spark another step forward.

Speaking on the single, Ethan shares: “‘Setback’ is all about the trials and challenges we come up against when we’re working to reach our goals. Tracing the tender spaces between change and acceptance, the regional NSW-based indie-folk artist returns to the heart’s quiet centre, where resilience lives in vulnerability and softness becomes a form of power.

‘Hold Everything Lightly’ moves like a slow river, its currents shifting between intimate acoustic folk and fuller, textured moments of release. Fingerpicked guitars, bowed strings, slide guitar, percussion and piano each breathe new life into every track. Isabel’s voice guides the record, warm and weightless as she balances fragility with grace, creating a world that feels both grounded in earth and open to sky.

Across ten tracks, Isabel moves through cycles of self-reflection, drawing from the rhythms of the natural world and the resolve that comes with acceptance. Written in the wake of transition, the record captures moments of honesty, growth and surrender, gently returning to what remains when everything else falls away. Speaking on the album, Isabel shares:

“Following the release of my first album, my approach to songwriting began to morph into a new phase. The songs that make up my second album are the most raw and honest I have written. They let me turn inwards and meet myself honestly in the midst of big change and transition. These songs very much travel through internal landscapes whilst, or perhaps as a consequence of, listening to the cycles of the world around me.”

‘Soften’ opens the record in calm surrender, finger-picked electric guitar and layered harmonies guiding a return to the body, where breath and serenity begin to lead the way. ‘Better Half of Me’ follows as a balm for aching hearts, anchored by soft acoustic guitar and vocals honouring love in its most vulnerable form.

‘Lonely Hunter’ gathers momentum with sweeping strings and rhythmic drive, while ‘Knowing’ slips into a slow, country-tinged ache of slide guitar and piano. By ‘Room to Grow’, hope begins to re-enter the frame, brushed percussion and pedal-steel guitar tones carrying the lightness of letting go, as ‘Born Again’ pares everything back to voice and guitar, the sound of a heart laid bare.

‘I Danced’ rises with organ and percussion, finding a steady groove led by the drums that shakes the past loose. Both ‘Digesting History’ and ‘You’ll Sing’ arrive as piano-led ballads, the former standing firm in quiet defiance while the latter glows with an inner fire, a reflection on voice and the trust it takes to be heard. Finally, the title track ‘Hold Everything Lightly’ gathers all that came before, closing the record in a moment of liberation.

BREE TRANTER releases MATT CORBY EDM REMIX of ‘TUESDAY FRESH CUTS’ for the track’s 10 year anniversary

10 years on from the release of the original track, Bree Tranter has released an EDM remix of her breakthrough single ‘Tuesday Fresh Cuts’, as reimagined by the one and only Matt Corby. Working with her friend and longtime collaborator Matt – who also played bass on the original recording a decade ago – on the release, Bree celebrates her creative journey of the past ten years by putting a new spin on the track which served as a catalyst for so much of it.

First emerging into the scene as a vocalist, keyboardist & flutist for acclaimed indie/folk band The Middle East in the mid 2000s, Bree Tranter has gone on to flourish in her own solo ventures (releasing her debut album Another Night On Earth in 2016), as well as being an esteemed session musician, collaborating with the likes of Passenger, Thelma Plum and more. Her music has been featured in television series such as Lovesick, Queen Sugar, and Five Bedrooms. She has also composed original scores for three short films: Aftershock, Happy Anniversary, and Dragon’s Breath.

Now, Bree returns to her roots, working with one of her earliest collaborators on one of her earliest songs, and bringing fresh eyes to the single which, sitting at over 6.5 million streams on Spotify alone, is undoubtedly among her most revered musical accomplishments.

After a year spent traversing the world ‘Looking For Nothing’ is an exercise in letting go, a forced moment of pause. Working once again with producer Stefan Blair, one half of acclaimed duo Good Morning, Ella’s folk leanings are unleashed amidst a lush production. The single was mixed by Dylan Young (Way Dynamic) and Liam “Snowy” Halliwell. ‘Looking For Nothing’ in a shining example of Ella’s eloquent lyricism, masterful musical control and her unmatched ability to deliver a cacophony of raw emotion, anchored by grit and heart.

This is further exemplified in the Green Man Festival Session filmed in August, a secret second set which gives insight into the vulnerable and transformative nature of Ella’s live shows. With the news of her signing with booking agents Jim Romeo and Alisa Preisler of US-based booking agency Ground Control Touring, Ella is well on her way to sharing this with audiences across North America, South America and Asia.

BOOTLEG RASCAL REVEAL SELF-TITLED FOURTH ALBUM ‘BOOTLEG RASCAL’ WITH LEAD SINGLE ‘REASONS’

Yugambeh/Gold Coast-based band, Bootleg Rascal, have just unveiled their assertive self-titled fourth album, ‘Bootleg Rascal’.
Across eleven tracks, the record finds the duo at their most self-assured, engagingly taking on topics like fatherhood, all while exerting their unique brand of optimism and whimsy. Produced by longtime collaborator Caleb Tasker (The Terrys, Rum Jungle) and mixed by Ian Pritchett (Angus & Julia Stone, Boo Seeka), the album bathes in sun-soaked production, effortlessly traversing groove-laden alt-rock, soul-inflected hip hop, and lush cinematic soundscapes.

Guitarist Jimmy Young talks about the inspiration behind the album: “This album feels like it’s been 12 years in the making. All the gigs we’ve played all around the world, all the songs we’ve written, all the adventures we’ve shared, are all building blocks of this latest record. It’s the first proper full-length album of new songs we’ve released since ‘Anonimo’ back in 2018. I think this record is a great representation of the band as a whole. Kim Yang 楊予菁 blends indie-folk channelling joy and healing in new single, ‘All Good When I’m With You’ + Announces Intimate ‘Between Shores’ Taiwan Tour

Taiwan-born and Canberra-based artist Kim Yang 楊予菁, known for blending indie-folk with cinematic soul, is set to release her new single, ‘All Good When I’m With You’, on Wednesday, October 29, via Symphonic, and it is the first single taken from a larger body of work due for release in 2026.

To celebrate, Kim will embark on a five-date ‘Between Shores’ tour across Taiwan, featuring singer-songwriters from Australia and Malaysia. The tour commences with the single release celebration on Thursday, November 6, at Taipei’s Witch House, with performances from Amrita Soon and Joyin Wang.

‘All Good When I’m With You’ captures the healing power of music and connection, pairing bubbly ukulele backed with bold piano lines and cinematic strings, exuding a warm energy to match the track’s heartfelt message. After learning to play Chinese folk instrument guzheng in China, a recording of one borrowed from a friend’s auntie in Melbourne made it into the final mix, adding a layer of cultural resonance and warmth. Backed by layered harmonies, Kim’s ethereal vocals sing about her purpose of sharing joy, human connections, and healing. Produced by Louis Montgomery (SAFIA, Peking Duk), the single is accompanied by a music video, shot in a cozy home setting, directed and edited by Seán O’Gorman.

Long March Through the Jazz Age is the last recorded work by Chris Bailey and The Saints. It’s a moving farewell – a testament to a restless, uncompromising artist who always moved forward, one of rock’s great lyricists and iconoclasts.

Recorded at Church Street Studios in Sydney, Bailey and longtime Saints drummer Pete Wilkinson flew in from Europe to reunite with guitarist/engineer Sean Carey, who had previously toured and recorded with the band. They were joined by Davey Lane (You Am I) on guitar, plus a handpicked ensemble of Sydney’s most exciting young horn, string and keyboard players.

From Bailey’s rough demos, Long March Through the Jazz Age grew into a deeply human snapshot of modern times.

Love Game, the anticipated fourth studio album of Central Coast indie artist Joel Leggett, has arrived. A record which all at once captures so many facets of love, loss and the human experience, Love Game is – at its core – ‘a collection of stories about resilience, connection, and the many beautiful ways love shows up in our lives.’ It explores the notion that love, when you step back and observe the bigger picture, really is just like a game. You win some, and you lose some too.

“You can never plan for it, it just arrives in your life and you get lucky. Most of the songs carry a positive energy, celebrating the joy and light that love can bring, but I also wanted to explore the tougher side, giving love and not always getting it back. Each track has its own theme: not just romantic love, but love for hobbies, passions, and the people who make life worthwhile. Working with a variety of friends and collaborators on the production on the album, a decision that would allow each and every track, theme and genre to flourish in its own right, Joel recorded Love Game across Sonora Studios, The Grove Studios and Kicks Iron Studio with Jack Nigro (The Amity Affliction, DMA’s, Skegss, Middle Kids), Izaac Wilson (The Tullamarines, Rum Jungle), KESMAR (Surely Shirley, DON WEST) and Manning Allen-Scott (Lilli Fairfax, The Soul Movers).

“When creating Love Game, I spent about a year developing my creative direction and writing very full, layered demos at home. I wanted each song to shine in its own way and bring its own vibe to the album. Once the demos were ready, I took the tracks to the studio to refine and elevate them. I worked with Jack Nigro at Sonora Studios on eight of the tracks, collaborated with Kesmar on writing one track, and worked with Izaac Wilson on two others. I also worked with Manning Allen-Scott on a track at Pete Murray’s studio in Byron Bay. Each session added its own dimension, helping to bring out the emotion, energy, and story behind the songs. On the new single, “We had planned on releasing a different song next, but since getting engaged it felt right to put out this one with Lil singing on it. If you love someone, don’t let them go. That’s really what ‘Blindspot’ is about – the desire to communicate openly through changes in a relationship. The importance of love and true passion – if you’re lucky enough to find it, cherish it and make it last. I’m very privileged to have my fiancée sing beautifully on this track with me.”

Built on lush alt-pop textures and sweeping emotion, ‘Blindspot’ captures the tenderness and truth of a love that continues to evolve through vulnerability. Fletcher comments on the tour, “Getting the call to support Lewis’ tour was a real dream come true. I saw him live at Splendour as a teenager before his ‘Someone You Loved’ had come out, and got to witness how truly unbelievable he was. I’m very grateful he’s connected with my music and for the opportunity to tour arenas – that’s everything I want to do in music.”

That rise has been steadily building over the past year. Sly Withers return with anthemic new single Make My Mind Up ahead of 2025 headline tour and new album

Perth’s beloved alt-rock and emo heavyweights Sly Withers return with their powerful new single Make My Mind Up, a stirring reflection on indecision, growth, and the push to keep moving forward when life feels stuck. The track marks a new chapter for the band, showcasing their evolution as writers and collaborators while continuing the emotionally charged storytelling that has made them one of Australia’s most compelling guitar bands.

From high school hopefuls to festival main-stagers, Sly Withers have built one of the most loyal followings in Australian rock. Their emotive, hook-driven sound has earned them two ARIA Top 10 albums in Gardens (2021) and Overgrown (2022), along with millions of streams, national radio rotation, and a #69 placement in triple j’s Hottest 100 for fan favourite Clarkson. Known for their heartfelt live shows, the band have sold out countless headline dates across the country, and this year reached a new milestone by selling out their debut London show, solidifying their growing international presence.

Make My Mind Up captures that moment between self-doubt and determination, when you’re caught between who you are and who you want to be. It’s a song that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable, combining soaring vocals, dynamic guitars, and the kind of chest-wide chorus and raw emotion that defines Sly Withers at their best.

“The song is about feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and indecisive, but also about the desire to push through and improve,” co-frontman Sam Blitvich explains. “Wrestling with stagnation, needing a push, but still holding onto the belief that you’ll eventually break free and make it out the other side in one piece.”

He continues, “It’s the most collaborative track we’ve ever written. We used to write individually, but this one started with a vocal hook Fraser came up with, and from there we built out the entire track together as a team. It’s been super exciting to see our writing process evolve and we can’t wait to share more of it.”

The release of Make My Mind Up arrives as the band gear up for a massive run of activity. They’re currently in the studio working with producer Stevie Knight (Stand Atlantic, RedHook) on the remainder of their upcoming album, due April 2026. November will see Sly Withers embark on their only 2025 Australian headline tour, before headlining a night of Sidefest, the Perth festival they proudly curate and champion.

In a continuation of the Brothers Johnson’s longstanding collaboration, Matt Johnson has scored his brother Gerard’s new film, Odyssey (starring Polly Maberly and Mikael Persbrandt).

A dark, metaphysical thriller in which a cutthroat real estate agent takes a spectacular fall from the corporate ladder when her loan-sharks call in their debts, Odyssey is set against the backdrop of London’s contemporary housing crisis and the cut and thrust world of capitalism, need and corporate greed. Drawing on the occult and European horror, Gerard describes his latest, characteristically uncompromising and distinctive work as “true to the warped world we find ourselves existing in”.

As with previous THE THE soundtracks – Tony, Moonbug, Hyena, and Muscle – the Odyssey soundtrack CD comes replete with an 84-page hardback book, this time featuring a foreword by Jason Wood, a Q&A between Gerard and co-writer, Austin Collings, as well as film stills and behind-the-scenes photographs.

Additionally, two tracks from the Odyssey soundtrack will be released as a limited-edition double A-side 7” vinyl single, ‘Unrequited’ / ‘Live & Let Live’ featuring previously unseen artwork by Matt and Gerard’s late brother, Andrew (AKA Andy Dog) the single will be released on 7th November via Cinéola in partnership with earMUSIC.

Unlike Gerard’s previous films, Odyssey centres around a female protagonist. Though most of the soundtrack is instrumental, for the songs in which a voice is heard, Matt felt it would be fitting to feature a female vocalist – in this case Gillian Glover, who also sang backing vocals on Ensoulment. THE THE has a history of collaborating and duetting with notable female vocalists such as Sinead O’Connor, Neneh Cherry and Anna Domino, but in ‘Live & Let Live’ it is the first time anyone else has sung lead vocals in a THE THE song. Barrie Cadogan, THE THE’s guitarist on Ensoulment, as well as for The Comeback Special and Ensouled world tours, also played electric guitars on ‘Unrequited’.

Gerard Johnson has created two powerful new music videos for this double A-sided single, exclusively using unused footage from the film being released with the singles on 7th November.

‘Unrequited’ / ‘Live & Let Live’ joins the growing collection of THE THE’s recent standalone 7” singles including ‘We Can’t Stop What’s Coming’ (2017), ‘I Want 2 B U’ (2020), ‘$1 One Vote!’ (2023), and ‘Slow Emotion Replayed’ (2025).

Finally, The Inertia Variations, a beautiful and moving 84-minute film, directed by Swedish documentarian Johanna St Michaels, will be made available for the first time on Blu-ray and DVD on 28th November (UK) / 5th December (US). Without this documentary, Matt Johnson would not have awoken from his creative torpor to start writing and releasing music again, including his first new studio album in nearly a quarter century, Ensoulment, as well as The Comeback Special (2018) and Ensouled (2024-25) world tours. This film was the catalyst for everything that followed in its wake.

The Inertia Variations, named after a series of poems of the same name by John Tottenham, is centred around Matt Johnson’s 12-hour live Radio Cinéola broadcast, which included live music, poetry and interviews with teachers, healers, environmental activists and political commentators – people whose voices are frequently silenced. Though not a typical biographical documentary – it certainly provides an overview, seamlessly incorporating archive footage as well as appearances from long-term creative collaborators such as Tim Pope.

Internationally premiered at CPH:DOX in Copenhagen in 2017, The Inertia Variations enjoyed a run of sell-out screenings at cinemas across Europe and the USA but never – until now – had a physical release. The beautifully-designed 28-page hardcover mediabook features the full documentary on Blu-ray and DVD, along with six exclusive live performances by Matt and guests from the original broadcast.

An exclusive, one-off event at the prestigious British Film Institute, Southbank London will take place on 16th December to mark this release. As well as The Inertia Variations, three recent music videos will be screened, followed by a Q&A with director Johanna St Michaels, Matt Johnson and Jason Wood, Executive Director of the BFI. Tickets go on sale to BFI members on 4th November and on general sale on 6th November.

KT Tunstall will return to Australia and New Zealand in May 2026 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her groundbreaking multi-million-selling debut album, “Eye To The Telescope”.

MAK & SHAR RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM ‘NEW PROBLEMS’

After a run of chart-topping singles and standout festival appearances, rising country-pop duo Mak & Shar unveil their long-awaited debut album New Problems. A heartfelt and irresistibly fun collection, the record captures the duo’s signature blend of groove and down-to-earth storytelling. LISTEN HERE

Recorded and produced by the boys in their home studio, the debut serves as a chronicling of their journey so far. “For us, New Problems isn’t just our first album, it’s a timestamp. Every lyric, every melody carries a piece of what we’ve been working on since we first picked up a guitar. The late-night writing sessions, the shows that taught us who we are on stage, and the countless hours of experimenting in the studio.”

Across its eleven tracks, New Problems swings effortlessly between love, loss, and life’s lighter moments. Songs like ‘Best Thing’ and ‘See You Smile’ radiate with joy and intimacy – honest love songs born from real experiences, whether it’s a marriage proposal or a carefree trip through Europe. ‘Amara’s Song’ takes that intimacy further, offering a deeply personal tribute to fatherhood, while ‘Untamed Heart’ reflects on the brothers’ late father in a moving yet celebratory tribute that fuses country roots with unexpected dance-inspired flourishes.

Elsewhere, Mak & Shar lean into playfulness and perspective. The title track ‘New Problems’ pokes fun at life’s trivialities with a wink and a grin, while recent single, ‘Simple Things’ offers a gentle reminder to slow down and appreciate what really matters. ‘Counting Clouds’ takes that theme to its breeziest extreme – a collaboration with Andy Penkow that proves sometimes a song about “nothing” can mean everything.

Yet this diverse debut is not without its brooding side – evidenced on the breakup ballad ‘Better Now’ and the cyclical heartache of ‘Hourglass’. Then, of course, there’s ‘The Drinking Song (A Whole Keg of Beer)’ – a cheeky, full-throttle singalong that ensures the album ends on a rowdy high.

“New Problems has been the product of the last three years of our lives writing, performing, and refining until every note felt true” explains Mak & Shar. “It pulls inspiration from everywhere we’ve been, experiences we’ve shared, heartbreaks that we’ve lived through and memories that we treasure.”

While Mak & Shar hold writing credits on all eleven of the record’s tracks, they enlisted the occasional collaborator to help shape its sound. Long-time friend and rising star Robbie Mortimer co-wrote the reflective single ‘Simple Things’, bringing fresh ideas and a grounded perspective to the session.

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Andy Penkow teamed up with the duo on the breezy ‘Counting Clouds’, which went on to top the Australian Country Radio charts. Even family ties come into play, with Mak & Shar’s brother Arlan stepping in to co-write the bittersweet ‘Hourglass’. Each collaboration adds a new shade to the record, while keeping the heart of Mak & Shar’s storytelling front and centre.

The duo cruise the line between pop and country, drawing from a deep well of influences. “A lot of the songs reflect the harmony-rich music we grew up on, the storytellers who shaped our teenage years like John Mayer and Alan Jackson, and even the artists we’ve got on repeat right now, like Dan + Shay, Chris Stapleton and Luke Combs. It’s a snapshot of who we are today, told through the sounds that built us.”

With standout performances at Gympie Music Muster, CMC Rocks, Tamworth Country Music Festival and a recent appearance at the iconic Deni Ute Muster these boys have built a live show not to be missed. They’ll share the songs and stories of New Problems over a slew of tour dates in 2026.

Following the sweeping critical acclaim for her debut full-length album choke enough—hailed as one of 2025’s most vital releases—vocalist, producer, and composer Oklou returns to release choke enough (Deluxe) via True Panther, with an expansion pack vinyl releasing Nov 28th. The release follows Oklou’s stunning Tiny Desk performance where Oklou played the marimba and piano alongside an eight-piece choir. The performance also featured an early preview of deluxe album track, ‘what’s good’.

The deluxe album builds on the record’s warm production and its blend of ambient textures with minimal club rhythms. The project adds four new songs that expand the album’s universe including Oklou’s latest single ‘viscus‘ featuring FKA twigs, which came alongside a Gil Gharbi-directed video. Oklou spoke in more depth about the deluxe album in her cover story for Pitchfork, where journalist Anna Gaca traveled to Pau, France, to join Oklou on her summer retreat and reflect on her breakthrough year and artistic evolution.

Oklou also recently featured on PinkPantheress’ remix album Fancy Some More? On the track ‘Girl Like Me‘.

Fresh off her sold-out North American headline tour, which included stops in New York, Montreal, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco, Oklou now heads overseas for the UK and European leg, kicking off November 7th at Pitchfork Festival London. On November 9th, she’ll join Lorde as a special guest in Luxembourg before resuming her headline dates across Amsterdam, Berlin, Manchester, Paris and more. Looking ahead to 2026, Oklou is set for a landmark year of festival performances, including her Coachella debut and appearances at Primavera Sound and Laneway Festival.

Named among the best albums of the year by Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Billboard, The FADER, and Stereogum, and landing France’s Le Prix Joséphine Album of the Year award, choke enough has cemented Oklou’s status as a cultish outsider pop star. In the wake of the album’s success, Oklou has drawn high profile co-signs from Billie Eilish who noted, “Honestly, she’s the first thing that’s gotten me excited in a while,” and Ethel Cain who added, “I’m obsessed with this album, it’s like if they made pop music for bugs”, as well as Rosalía and Lorde.

Born Marylou Mayniel in rural western France, Oklou’s musical foundation was built on classical piano and cello, before she fell in love with electronic production and began performing her first shows in Paris. Her 2020 mixtape Galore marked a creative breakthrough, blending introspective songwriting with futuristic sound design. Dazed praised Galore as, “sophisticated in its composition yet totally cutting edge in its sound.”

With choke enough, Oklou has evolved into one of the most compelling voices in modern music—bridging intimacy and innovation with fearless emotional clarity.

We are delighted to share a stunning live Beth Gibbons concert film, captured at the iconic Sydney Opera House as part of Vivid LIVE festival in June 2025. The film sees Beth Gibbons and her accompanying band at peak form during their triumphant Australian tour in May/June, which also included performances at RISING and Dark Mofo festivals.

The new live film also provides a rare glimpse behind the scenes, as Beth and the band prepare to perform at one of the world’s most prestigious venues, with their chemistry and camaraderie on full display.

Beth says: “I was so honoured to be performing at the Sydney Opera House, somewhere I thought I’d never be asked to play. Knowing we were going to be filmed and recorded did add to the pressure I was already feeling. We were performing 2 shows a day something I had never done before, and I wasn’t sure how my voice would hold out. Well, here’s the end result, I hope you enjoy. Thanks to everyone who made this happen …. it was a once in a lifetime experience for all of us and one we won’t ever forget.”

Lives Outgrown is, by some measure, Beth’s most personal work to date, the result of a period of sustained reflection and change — “lots of goodbyes,” in Beth’s words. Farewells to family, to friends, even to her former self. These are songs from the mid-course of life, when looking ahead no longer yields what it used to, and looking back has a sudden, sharper focus.

“I realised what life was like with no hope,” says Beth. “And that was a sadness I’d never felt. Before, I had the ability to change my future, but when you’re up against your body, you can’t make it do something it doesn’t want to do.”

Songs also touch on motherhood, anxiety and the menopause (which Beth describes variously as “a massive audit” and “a massive comedown” which “cuts you at the knees”) as well as, inevitably, mortality.

“People started dying,” says Beth. “When you’re young, you never know the endings, you don’t know how it’s going to pan out. You think: we’re going to get beyond this. It’s going to get better. Some endings are hard to digest.”

But emerging from this decade of change and realignment has left Beth with what feels like a renewed purpose. “Now I’ve come out of the other end, I just think, you’ve got to be brave,” she says.

Featuring 10 beautiful new tracks recorded over a period of 10 years, Lives Outgrown, released on Friday the 17th of May 2024, was produced by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode) and Beth Gibbons with additional production by Lee Harris (Talk Talk).

Brendan Welch re-emerges with new album ‘Returning’ Out Now

After years spent quietly crafting, refining, and living the songs that would eventually make their way onto his latest work, acclaimed singer-songwriter Brendan Welch is gracing us with his new album ‘Returning’, out now.

Emotionally stirring and sonically rich, ‘Returning’ is Brendan Welch’s first full-length release since 2016’s self-titled LP, and it marks a bold evolution in his artistic story. A multifaceted and deeply textured body of work, the album weaves together indie swagger, sweet folk, Americana twang, and singer-songwriter introspection.

“I’ve always been attracted to melody above all else, in whatever form that takes,” says Welch. “I think my perspective and my work has really been informed by an almost obsessive pursuit of making beautiful things. I’ve never been able to turn it off.”

The songs themselves are the result of many years’ work and chart a profound inner journey through Welch’s own personal cyclical terrain of joy, anxiety and depression, before ultimately finding joy again.

Lyrical honesty is a fundamental part of what makes Welch’s music resonate so deeply. Much of his perspective as a writer is informed by his experience growing up a closeted gay man in Australia; not coming out until his mid-twenties. “Before then, I was desperately trying to not be ‘found out’,” Welch explains. “I think being a secretly gay kid and a teenager in the 80s and 90s took its toll – the constant attempts at hiding, masking, feeling less than, being stressed and worried that something was fundamentally wrong with me (as clearly indicated to me at the time by most culture and public opinion) and all the time spent trying not to be discovered. It shaped me in a way.”

The album was recorded and mixed by Rohan Sforcina at the legendary Head Gap studios before it was tragically destroyed by fire. It was mastered by Joe Carra at Crystal Mastering. All artwork for the album was created by Welch himself, a student of visual arts and a multi-disciplinary artist in his own right.

Two decades in, Welch has enjoyed a storied career. His debut EP, ‘The Unbeat’(2005), received widespread acclaim and earned him a national tour with Paul Kelly. Follow-up EP ‘That Ghost’ (2007) lead to shows with Tim Rogers, Luke Steele, and Something For Kate. His first full-length album ‘The Gleaner’ (2009), produced by Paul Dempsey, was hailed by The Age as one of the most accomplished Australian records of the year. His self-titled second album (2016) featured collaborations with members of Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and Cash Savage and the Last Drinks, and standout track ‘Homosexual Love Song’ was placed on Noisey’s Top 100 Songs of 2017.
