EMILY ULMAN ‘Mountains, Mountains, Mountains’ (Single)
A longtime champion of the Australian music industry, and an equally talented artist and storyteller herself, Melbourne’s Emily Ulman today returns with a raw yet charismatic new single Mountains Mountains Mountains, which also serves as a peek into her upcoming full-length album set for release later this year.
Channelling the serene confessional qualities of Julia Jacklin with the poetic beauty of Big Thief and the folksy charm of Pinegrove, Mountains Mountains Mountains is a cinematic and tender ode to life’s juxtaposing moments, with Ulman lyrically wearing her heart on her sleeve while also delivering a mesmerising performance rooted in softly blurred indie rock, folk and pop hues. “I love the Japanese proverb: The reverse side has a reverse side”, shares Ulman. “Nothing is ever just one thing. Beneath every surface there is something else waiting to be seen; it reminds us to look deeper, to question first impressions. Mountains Mountains Mountains is about the beauty and the rot, about pleasure and grief, and how even the most pristine places carry traces of what came before. We live in the layers. In what is visible, what is hidden, and the quiet charge in between.”
“This song came out of a moment that felt both intimate and expansive,” Ulman adds. “A parked car. A sweeping view. A private undoing. It’s about renewal, about sexuality, about finding awe in the aftermath. There’s tension in it. Between what’s pristine and what’s overgrown. The beauty lives not in the separation, but in the merging of the two to become something new.”
Produced and mixed by Bonnie Knight (Amyl and the Sniffers, Angie McMahon, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers), and mastered by Simon Berckelman (Courtney Barnett, Passenger, Lime Cordiale, Cate Le Bon), Mountains Mountains Mountains expands on Ulman’s most recent single, the softly amiable Every Hillside which unveiled back in March, with the latest track also featuring contributions from Gab Strum (Japanese Wallpaper, Mallrat, Gretta Ray) on piano, bass and synth, Soren Maryasin (Stella Bridie, Chitra) on drums, and Alex Lashlie (Closet Straights, Loose Tooth) on guitar and backing vocals.
For over two decades, Emily Ulman has been a driving and defining voice in Australian music, both on stage and behind the scenes. Through her lengthy tenure championing artists, Ulman has curated and programmed lineups at some of Melbourne’s most iconic venues, including The Prince Bandroom, The Gasometer Hotel, and The Toff In Town, and has also programmed some of Australia’s most significant music events, including Brunswick Music Festival, White Night Melbourne, the CHANGES summit, and her own award-winning online festival Isol-Aid, which was awarded Best Festival at the 2021 Music Victoria Awards. Most recently, Ulman served as Executive Program Director for ALWAYS LIVE, a Victorian state-wide celebration of contemporary music that spans emerging artists through to international icons, with everything from sell-out stadiums to intimate venues playing home to these one-off, exclusive and community-focused events.
A key force motivating the Australian music scene towards a more progressive, inclusive and artist-first future, Ulman’s musical output is as revered as her work behind the scenes, renowned for her raw and evocative songwriting and infectious melodies that bewitch the soul. Releasing her first new music in over a decade in 2025, Ulman’s latest single, Mountains Mountains Mountains, is a delightful step closer to the long-awaited release of her brand-new album, with the follow-up to her 2015 album WEAR IT WELL set to release later this year.
“I think of songwriting as emotional archaeology,” says Ulman, “digging through memory and feeling to see what might still be living underneath. I’m drawn to the quiet intensity of a moment or phrase and the way a single word can unearth something you thought was long buried. I write to excavate. I sing to preserve. I make to stay awake to the mess and the magic of it all.”
“Releasing Mountains Mountains Mountains, and music again in general, is both a relief and a revelation,” Ulman concludes. “It feels like returning to a part of myself I almost forgot I missed.”
Mountains Mountains Mountains is out now.

STONETRIP RELEASE NEW SINGLE ‘FAME’
Melbourne-based hard rock outfit Stonetrip have officially unleashed their powerful new single ‘Fame’ on via Golden Robot Records. The track is available to stream now across all major streaming platforms.
‘Fame’ explores the complex and often destructive pursuit of notoriety. We all crave it to some degree – some chase it relentlessly, some stumble into it by accident. But ‘Fame’ digs into the darker side of the fame game: the people who will do anything to get it, burning bridges and ignoring advice unless it feeds their ego. It’s about those who want the spotlight but fear what comes with it. They’re running full speed… but from what, they’re not even sure.
Stream ‘Fame’ HERE
Driven by raw riffs, soaring vocals, and the band’s signature blend of classic and modern rock energy, ‘Fame’ is a track that cuts through the noise with its unapologetic truth. It’s loud, it’s honest, and it’s very, very real.

MERRICK WINTER ’The California Zephyr (EP)
London-based folk/Americana singer-songwriter Merrick Winter shares his long-awaited, poignant sophomore EP, The California Zephyr out now via Tone Tree Music. With the full project, Winter captures a sardonic character study with shuffling folk-rock groove “Alki Beach” out now. On May 13, Winter will perform live at The Lower Third in London and on May 20 at The Folklore Rooms in Brighton, UK.
On The California Zephyr, Winter paints sonic portraits of love, loss and the human condition through masterful instrumentation and stirring lyricism. Winter shares, “‘The California Zephyr’ is really a travelogue of longing. It’s the feeling that most often yields a song for me. A chronology of bygone eras; a homesickness morphed into fantasy. I find comfort in making that feeling permanent through songs.” Influenced by Randy Newman, Jackson Browne and Tom Waits, the project captures extraordinary accounts of ordinary lives with vignettes of American life, mixed with the memories of the artist’s childhood, leaving for the UK at age 12. The live version of the title track, recorded at British Grove Studios with Nashville orchestra Lockeland Strings is out now and can be watched here.
Watch “The California Zephyr” (Live At British Grove Studios) With Lockeland Strings | Listen
The EP, produced by Matt Zara (Teddy Swims, Lola Young, Niall Horan), Patrick James Fiztroy and Adam Lee, takes its name from the cross-country Amtrak train Winter boarded while writing it, pulling inspiration from conversations with strangers across the U.S.–everyone from an Amish family from Illinois, an ex-Hippie from Berkeley, to a mother and daughter from Tennessee. Throughout the body of work, Winter keenly examines a wide range of topics and emotions while weaving varied sounds together–from grief, to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, to the millennial and Gen Z approach to spiritual connection with meditation apps. Plus, pulling from Buena Vista Social Club and the storytelling of Paul Simon and Ernest Hemingway, Winter taps into the rich culture and Latin music of Cuba in his Flamenco guitar-driven track with Spanish multi-instrumentalist Lau Noah.
“Alki Beach,” out today, invites listeners into the world of a stranger in Seattle, written in one sitting after a surreal conversation during a long bus ride. The track, recorded live to tape, touches on the isolating feelings of being an ex-pat, not quite belonging to any one place. Rooted in a love for Ry Cooder’s vision of Americana, Winter says it’s “It rambles from political proclamations to well-meaning but misplaced life advice, tracing the national mood through my own outsider lens. At its core, it’s about ex-pat alienation—the awkward moment when someone asks where my accent is from, and I want to say ‘I’m from here,’ even though I know I’d sound like a liar. Still, I sing in an American accent. Some roots grow deep.”
Merrick Winter was raised in a small Midwestern college town in Iowa–home to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s Transcendental Meditation University–to an Anglo-American family within an alternative spiritual community. While earning a degree in English Literature from King’s College London, Winter began writing and producing, working with artists like half·alive and Ivor Novello Rising Star winner Victoria Canal and grabbing the attention of leading tastemakers like NOTION, The Line of Best Fit and EARMILK. Winter’s unmatched intimate live shows have earned him a following across the U.S. and UK, selling out London’s iconic St. Pancras Old Church in November 2024, and recently toured globally supporting Bastille. Now, Winter expands his sweeping sonic universe with a captivating, cinematic body of work that proudly puts his singular artistry and narrative-driven resonant storytelling on display like never before.
The California Zephyr, Merrick Winter’s enthralling sophomore EP is out now via Tone Tree Music. Catch Winter live in London on May 13 at The Lower Third and on May 20 in Brighton, UK at The Folklore Rooms. BATTLE BEAST Release New Song ‘Last Goodbye’
With six records since their formation in 2008, four consecutive number #1 albums, and the strongest line-up the Finnish power/symphonic metal group ever had, today BATTLE BEAST release their brand new single. The song ‘Last Goodbye’ is the first taste from the band’s seventh album, set to release later this year.
Eero Sipilä quotes excited: ”The spark for Last Goodbye was lit in the least rock ’n roll place imaginable: a hospital. In 2020, I spent a few weeks there and met an older woman battling cancer—a fight she’d been waging on and off since 1985. It made me wonder: how much can a person take before they give up? But she never did. She kept showing up, kept pushing through the treatments, kept being around. Last Goodbye is a tribute to that human fighting spirit—the will to rise every time life knocks you down. As long as you’re breathing, you’re still in the game.”

NZ indie-folk troubadour SOLOMON CROOK returns with ethereal new single ‘TOO STRUNG’
Aotearoa indie-folk artist Solomon Crook has returned with the beautiful new single titled ‘Too Strung’ – out in the world today. ‘Too Strung’ is the latest from his forthcoming EP ‘Beneath The Morning Tree’ set for release on the 3rd of July.
‘Too Strung’ immediately pulls you close with an infectious, percussive pulse – it is this rolling heartbeat that lifts the listener along through soaring peaks and intimate spaces. Solomon’s acoustic guitar rhythms set the motion for the track, whilst his signature low-end vocal weaves ear-worm melodies. Washed in nostalgic warmth, this single leaves you bathing in its glow.
Lyrically, the song moves towards connection – a quiet reaching for wholeness. “It’s a yearning for freedom,” Solomon shares, “a call to nature to untangle the knots my mind ties itself in.” It holds the tension between constriction and release – embracing the strain, while allowing softness to seep through. At its heart, it’s an honest admission of imperfection, and within that, a gentle invitation for change and renewal – much like the turning of the seasons.
The single is a part of a 7-track EP titled ‘Beneath The Morning Tree’ set for release on the 3rd of July. Recorded over a week during the winter of 2023, Solomon was joined by producer Neil Macleod and visual director Oscar Keys (Kirin J. Calinan, Broods, Daily J), all hunkered down in Tekapo, a quiet town in the South of New Zealand. Here they stayed in Oscar’s family cabin from the 70’s – recording music, capturing moments, lighting fires, sharing meals, going for walks, icy swims and the occasional target practice.
Although the recording process was reasonably brief, the songs on ‘Beneath The Morning Tree’ have stuck around with Solomon for a few years now – smouldering and changing, while Solomon focused on returning to the heart of his songwriting.
“This project began over four years ago, sparked by a quiet longing – for deeper connection, for more honesty in both myself and my songwriting. It felt like a return to where it all started: just me, my guitar, and the act of writing. Stripping everything back, I found space to sit with the bare bones of a song, to listen closely to what needed to be said. What unfolded was a gradual peeling back – layers of vulnerability, truth, and clarity. And within that honesty, I recognised something unmistakable: this was my story, told in the only way I could tell it.” SOLOMON CROOK
‘Too Strung’ is accompanied by a music video from Oscar, filmed on a super 8 during their time in Lake Tekapo – capturing all the vast natural beauty and camaraderie from the sessions.
“We arrived in Tekapo without a fixed plan – just a Super8 camera in hand and a willingness to follow wherever the moment led. The bach, tucked away in its quiet charm, held a stash of old winter clothes from the ’70s, and we leaned into the nostalgia, making use of what we found. The video was never about perfection, it was about presence. About capturing the kind of moments where connection feels effortless. It reflects where we are right now: a time marked by openness, shared energy, and the quiet kind of joy that lives in the in-between.” SOLOMON CROOK

JUNO MAMBA & EDAPOLLO RELEASE NEW COLLAB SINGLE ‘U ALWAYS’
Filipino-Australian artist and producer Juno Mamba joins forces with English-born, LA-based producer edapollo to deliver their new collaborative single ‘U Always’ — a euphoric and uplifting release that marks a continuing collaborative relationship between the two artists.
Juno Mamba’s chemistry with edapollo was first brought into our collective consciousness with their release ‘Drifter’, released through UK DJ Seb Wildblood’s label all my thoughts. With ‘U Always’, the duo offers a vibrant counterpoint to their earlier track’s darker tone — bringing renewed energy, warmth, and summer-ready optimism.
“U Always was the first track Ed I collaborated on. The initial demo was made within a few hours but later we decided to revamp the track into something more energetic. I focused a lot on the drums and synths, which got a complete overhaul. I sent the new version to Ed and within a few hours, he sent back a version with all the new vocals in it, which elevated the track and brought it all together perfectly. One of my favourite electronic artists, Aleksandir, jumped on to mix the track and he was perfect for this record.” – Juno Mamba
“After releasing our first collaboration ‘Drifter’ earlier this year, which carries a slightly darker & more sombre tone, ‘U Always’ feels like the perfect counterpart with its uplifting & euphoric energy. This track went through many different versions until we landed on this final edit. The timing feels perfect with summer approaching & hopefully it can soundtrack that change of season and the positive energy surrounding it.” – edapollo
WATCH: Juno Mamba, edapollo – ‘U Always’
As Juno Mamba and edapollo were finalising ‘U Always’, director Darcy De Silva reached out — sparking the video’s creation. Inspired by the single artwork by Pollen Arts Club, the visual captures an ethereal wonder and deep connection to life and nature. The video also echoes back to Juno Mamba’s debut video clip, which was directed by Darcy’s older brother, Sanjay De Silva — a full-circle moment.
“What appears to be escapism is actually a voyage into the self, where the main protagonist meets their match in a mirrored reflection of joy and cathartic release” – Michael Hales, Co-Director
Alongside today’s release, Juno Mamba has been announced as the support for highly influential electronic duo Kiasmos on their Australian tour this July in support of their new album II. Consisting of longtime friends and collaborators Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen, this marks Kiasmos’ return to Australian shores for the first time in 8 years. Juno Mamba will support the duo on their Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne shows plus Hobart as part of Dark Mofo.
PRIVATE FUNCTION ANNOUNCE NATIONAL ALBUM TOUR + NEW SINGLE & VIDEO ‘ANIMAL’
Australian punk freaks Private Function return with the release of a feral new single ‘Animal’, the second taste of their forthcoming fourth album ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, out May 23. Today, they announce they’ll be hitting the road this June for a national headline tour, tearing through major cities and regional towns, before heading overseas for a 35-date European tour.
Following the April single ‘Koala’, the album opener ‘Animal’ boasts a ferocious riff that captures the rabid energy of their live show while showcasing the band’s heavier side. With snarling vocals, Chris Penney sings, “Get away from me! I’m a fcking animal!”* It’s aggressive, cathartic, and unmistakably PF. It also marks the first time we’ve heard PF play in ‘Drop (bear) D’ which will either excite fans or piss them off. Either way, PF couldn’t care less.
The video for ‘Animal’ is the direct continuation of the ‘Koala’ music video. We get to see where the two Koalas have ended up. Chris has been sent to prison where he awaits execution for his crimes against humanity, while Milla escapes capture, kills the animal control guards and tries to find him. Will Milla find Chris before it’s too late and he’s sent to execution by electric chair? Is this a romance or a tragedy? – watch to find out.
The 19-track LP ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ captures everything fans have come to love about PF, catchy hooks, irreverent lyrics, and a family-friendly “go f*ck yourself” attitude. Recorded with producer Stefan Blair at York Street Recorders, the album channels the raw chaos of their live show. The journey veers between punk rock, sea shanties, electronic breakdowns, and folk sing-alongs, all delivered with the band’s trademark humour and chaos.
In true Private Function fashion, the album’s packaging is just as inventive as the music: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ features the world’s first microscopic album cover, made up of 2,590 individual record covers designed by Bootleg Comics. Each physical copy includes a custom-built magnifying glass, inviting fans to dive into the absurdity tile by tile.
Over the last eight years, Private Function have built a reputation as one of Australia’s most explosive and unpredictable live acts, earning ARIA nominations, top ten albums, and international praise. They’ve headlined venues like the Forum Theatre and Sidney Myer Music Bowl, delivered an iconic Meredith set and opened for Green Day, The Bronx, The Spits, Grinspoon, and Spiderbait.
Their June national tour will see them lap the country with a setlist packed with fan favourites and the kind of unhinged stage antics only PF can deliver. The tour hits Sydney, Canberra, Beechworth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne and Wollongong, as well as the Thrashville Festival and their long-awaited return to Perth.

If That Makes Sense is Spacey Jane’s most ambitious record to date, seeing the band explore new facets of their sound and dive deeper into themes of falling in and out of love, overcoming trauma and learning to pick up the pieces. Produced by Mike Crossey (The 1975, Arctic Monkeys, Wolf Alice), the band also collaborated with songwriters Jackson “Day Wave” Phillips and Sarah Aarons (Childish Gambino, Miley Cyrus, Lykke Li) to bring this project to life.
On the album, frontman Caleb Harper shares, “This album means the world to us. It was born and built far away from home and we poured three years of our lives into it. I’m still figuring out what it’s about, maybe someone can tell me. We’re so proud of it and grateful that it now belongs to you.”
Earlier this week, the band announced their forthcoming run of worldwide tour dates to celebrate the new music. The worldwide shows follow on from the Australian tour dates and will see them playing across North America, including a set at Austin City Limits, followed by a UK and European run.
The new album follows 2022’s Here Comes Everybody and 2020’s Sunlight. The band became a hometown sensation after the release of Sunlight, topping Triple J’s annual album poll with breakout single “Booster Seat” and earning the ARIA for Song of the Year. Inspired by the success of their debut album, Spacey Jane got to work on their sophomore album, which debuted at #1 on the ARIA Charts and earned them the title of Triple J’s most played artist in 2022.

CEDARSMOKE ‘Kicking Drugs’ (Single)
As they venture out into a new era, Cedarsmoke extends an invitation to come along, with their latest single ‘Kicking Drugs’ (out now), a psychedelic indie-rock exploration of their new dawn.
With years of experience under their belt since their first releases in 2016, Cedarsmoke has attracted a flurry of attention from Meanjin/Brisbane’s indie scene, radio stations with their hundreds of plays, and iconic music platforms such as Triple J, Triple J Unearthed, Double J, MTV, Pilerats, The Music, AU Review, AAA Backstage, Hysteria Mag, Scenestr and more.
Their constant evolution, diverse style, and emphasis on storytelling evoke vivid childhood memories, teenage antics, and precious nights out, and this nostalgia will blend together with the rush of something new as they prepare to usher out their third full-length album.
‘Kicking Drugs’ is a genre-fluid fusion: alt rock, pop-electronica, avant-garde psychedelic sounds and the nostalgic charm of folk blend together into something experimental but classic. With cheerful drum loops, acoustic guitars, blown-out synths and whirling keys, this sobering track feels like fresh start after kicking an old habit.
The nostalgia and hope for the future of the song lends itself to the lyrics, all about breaking free of the shackles of life with good times with friends, and sharing these new experiences together. The unbridled, sunlit spirit of the band takes on a new dynamic as Frontman Jon Cloumassis, Tamala Wright (drums/vocals) and Matt Cloumassis (lead guitar) explore and experiment together, opening portals to new worlds of soundscapes.
Cedarsmoke has always been Jon Cloumassis’s project in any form it takes, and this new era of group-focused music ushers in with it a new era of musical opportunity. Both psychedelic and psychological, ‘Kicking Drugs’ embodies this new era. Cedarsmoke says,
“Influenced by Jungian Colour Psychology, Kicking Drugs is orange – the colour symbolising vitality, stepping out of your comfort zone and embracing new experiences.”
‘Kicking Drugs’ is a sidestep for Cedarsmoke, a new avenue opening up for unconventional sounds and new dynamics, and they’re excited to share it with the world. ‘Kicking Drugs’ is out now.

RUBY RODGERS RELEASES DEBUT EP ‘CRISIS’
Rising artist Ruby Rodgers tackles climate anxiety, family bonds, and hope with wisdom beyond her years with the release of her debut EP ‘Crisis’. Featured in Damon Gameau’s acclaimed climate documentary “Future Council”, which will be released later this year, Ruby brings her unique perspective on global challenges with this powerful musical debut.
Recorded at her home studio in NSW, ‘Crisis’ was produced by her father, songwriter & producer Ben Rodgers, with string arrangements by Jade Macrae. The EP explores themes of fear, hope, loss, and heartache – whether related to climate change, family relationships, or life’s broader challenges.
The EP opens with the poignant ‘Family Tree,’ which Rodgers describes as a track that explores the importance of staying connected to those who offer unconditional love.
“Family Tree is about the importance of staying connected to the people who will love you unconditionally,” Rodgers says. “Our lives are largely shaped by our upbringings and the people we surround ourselves with. It can be easy to take constants for granted until a significant loss makes us realize their importance.”
Influenced by artists including Billie Eilish, Phoebe Bridgers, and The Smiths, Rodgers has developed a sound she describes as “emotional, cinematic, and vulnerable” – creating music that addresses both personal emotions and pressing global issues. The EP progresses through the environmental anxiety of ‘Crisis,’ offers a glimmer of hope with her cover of Coldplay’s ‘Fix You,’ and concludes with her debut single ‘Hits The Heart,’ which was released in 2024.
Speaking of the title track, Rodgers explains, “I wrote it while filming a climate change documentary in Europe called ‘Future Council,’ and I felt it was the perfect title because it embodies many of the themes in my songs.”
Ruby was one of eight schoolchildren globally selected for Damon Gameau’s acclaimed documentary film “Future Council”, where she contributed as a songwriter/poet/storyteller. After premiering at the Melbourne International Film Festival, Ruby and the team presented their work at the UN Summit in New York, where her single ‘Hits The Heart’ was featured in Times Square and streamed globally.
Ruby’s ‘Crisis,’ EP marks the arrival of a promising young artist with both the talent and conviction to make a meaningful impact through her music.

5 SECONDS OF SUMMER’S CALUM HOOD SHARES NEW SOLO SINGLE, “CALL ME WHEN YOU KNOW BETTER”
Acclaimed musician Calum Hood continues his solo era with the release of new single “Call Me When You Know Better” alongside the official video. Listen HERE and watch the video HERE.
The track is featured on Calum’s recently announced debut solo album ORDER chaos ORDER out June 13th via EMI Music Australia. Pre-order / pre-save ORDER chaos ORDER HERE.
For Calum, “Call Me When You Know Better” was a sonic breakthrough when making the album. The track not only welds digital and organic sounds together to create the sonic skeleton of what would become ORDER chaos ORDER, but also became a representation of the erratic noise in Calum’s mind and the chaos of contradicting thoughts, reflections, regrets and beyond.
Calum explains, “‘Call Me When You Know Better’ is a love letter in the form of an apology. For maybe not being the best lover or friend to the people who mean the most to me. Thoughts contradicting one another, talking over each other and stretching reality. It’s a reflection on mistakes made, perpetual regret and self pity.”
The single follows “Don’t Forget You Love Me” — released in March and deemed a “Song You Need To Know” by Rolling Stone — the track serves as the album’s emotional cornerstone and introduced listeners to the raw honesty and sonic depth that define it.
Having spent the past 14 years touring the world and releasing music as one fourth of global phenomenon 5 Seconds of Summer – which claimed the No. 1 spot on Billboard 200 with three consecutive albums and has amassed over 7 billion combined global streams across its songs – Calum strikes out alone for the first time, and emerges not just as a solo musician, but as an introspective storyteller. The result of a deeply personal creative journey, the album explores the strength it takes to look inward and to move forward through pain.
Crafted primarily alongside Jackson Phillips, aka Day Wave, with key contributions from David Burris (Lauren Spencer Smith, ITZY) and TMS, ORDER chaos ORDER is heady, raw, tender work that is unflinchingly sincere, buoyed by hints of a coiled intensity within – a record that showcases the 29-year-old musician’s mastery of nuance and emotional depth. While ORDER chaos ORDER marks a new beginning, it is also a reckoning with Calum’s past.
“This album was made in a tumble dryer of knowing and not knowing,” said Calum. “I started out with a vision—order—but quickly became overwhelmed by the process—chaos. Eventually, I learned to embrace both, and that balance became the heart of the record. There are things I’ve never been able to sing about in the band—my upbringing, my family, the places life has taken me. This album is about laying those things to rest and allowing listeners to connect in their own way.”
ORDER chaos ORDER will be released on June 13th and is available to pre-order here.

THE AUDREYS ‘I Remember Everything’ (Single)
As someone who’s usually playing country folk dirges, the upbeat tempo and the chance to sing some really big notes and harmonise with Taasha was a blast. I like that the song, written by Cam & Taash, hits the mark of perhaps being inspired by Tristan’s departure whilst being ambiguous that everyone can identify with reflecting on a world that once was. Sentimental, and a banger, that really sums up the thematic heart of the album’s title Ruin & Repair. Also, everyone should have more banjo in their life. – Co-writer Taasha Coates
We had this song down as the opening track from early on. There’s something about the urgency of it which I felt really set the whole album in motion, plus it’s sad but also hopeful in the question “where is my guiding light” that suits the Ruin & Repair theme perfectly. And I love duets like this where both voices are bound together for the whole song. Oh, and banjo, der. – Co-writer Cam Goodall
I Remember Everything is a song Taasha and I penned together about moving through darkness and isolation towards connection, imagined as a journey through the night in which two travellers in duet are being haunted by their memories. It’s two voices, both lost, yet also somehow moving forward… “though all the stars are out tonight, I only see the darkness in between their light.”
ABOUT THE AUDREYS
The Audreys are an alternative country band from Adelaide, Australia, formed in 2004 by Taasha Coates and Tristan Goodall. They have so far released four full-length albums, three of which received an ARIA Award in the Best Blues and Roots Album category, the fourth a nomination. They are stalwarts of the Australian touring scene and have played a smattering of club and festival shows in North America and Europe.
The Audreys released their first album Between Last Night & Us in 2006. The album, produced by prominent Melbourne musician Shane O’Mara, spawned two unlikely radio favourites in tracks Oh Honey and You & Steve McQueen. This, coupled with extensive touring, pushed the album to gold status in their home country.
In 2008 they released their second album When The Flood Comes to continued critical acclaim. The album debuted in the Top 20 on the Australian Charts and placed in Rolling Stone Magazine’s top 50 albums of that year. The song Small Things from the album was featured in an episode of popular US teen-soap One Tree Hill. The band continued to tour extensively both in Australia and overseas.
The duo’s third album was released in 2010. Sometimes the Stars, furthering the pair’s collaboration with producer Shane O’Mara, was their most ambitious yet. Recording for the first time without a band but with a who’s who of the Australian music industry as special guests, Taasha and Tristan reached further then ever beyond the folk and alt-country traditions of their earlier albums. An animated video for the albums title track continues to win awards and garner interest for the band all over the world.
In 2012 they repackaged all three albums in a box-set called Collected in order to celebrate each album winning an ARIA award (Australia’s Grammys) and to give them more time to work on their new record. They also began to tour for the first time as a duo around this time, and the pair quickly became renown for their graceful and impassioned performances, ramshackle impromptu cover versions and for their playful banter and disarming charm.
Their fourth studio album ’Til My Tears Roll Away was recorded in late 2013, again in collaboration with producer Shane O’Mara. Released in early 2014 in Australia to rave reviews, critical acclaim and a top 40 chart debut, the album was described by Rolling Stone Magazine in a 4-star write-up as “a record of abandon and grace.” Throughout 2014 and 2015 they toured extensively throughout Australia both as a duo and with a full band, and appeared at SXSW in Austin and Americana Music Festival in Nashville.
In 2016 The Audreys took a break while Taasha released her first solo album, Taasha Coates and Her Melancholy Sweethearts, produced by fellow singer-songwriter and multi-ARIA winner Shane Nicholson. That year she also participated in the Brumley Project for the House of Songs in Austin, Texas, completing the unfinished works of gospel songwriter Albert Brumley. She performed with the project at the Americana Music Festival in Nashville,Tennessee and attended again in 2017 as an official solo artist.
The Audreys continued to tour as a duo until Covid happened and they entered the era of the big nothing. Then in 2021 Tristan retired from touring due to ill health, and Taasha put together a new band consisting of Tom Kneebone on guitar, Felicity Freeman on bass and Beej Barker on drums. Tristan sadly passed away in 2022.
The Audreys released their first single in a decade on November 15th, 2024, Secondhand Boots. A melancholy ode to bad decisions and dusty footwear it marked the beginning of a new era for the band. Second single Beatles V Stones appeared in February 2025, and now there’s the full album and a national tour.

CLARE PERROT ‘Philadelphia’ (Single)
Take it back to the golden days of folk with Clare Perrott’s dulcet voice and darling chord progressions in her debut single ‘Philadelphia’, out on Friday, May 16.
Fresh off an appearance at Woodford Folk Festival 24-25, Clare Perrott is an up-and-coming Boorloo-based alt-folk musician that’s eager to share her creations with the world. With her musical influences from artists of years past, her songs are powerful numbers that tell stories and tug on the heartstrings.
Her debut single, ‘Philadelphia’, is the perfect example of this– a raw, powerful song with nylon guitar and twangy emotive vocals that showcase her evocative range. This song is packed with yearning, and the grief that comes with the changes that happen to a relationship.
As true folk ballads do, this song tells a story: losing someone as they move to another city, knowing that no matter what either person does, the relationship will be permanently changed. It’s raw, vulnerable, with just that hint of the bitterness that comes with being human.
‘Philadelphia’ is deeply honest, deeply authentic song, just like Clare Perrott herself, and on June 6th at Clancy’s Fremantle, that raw emotion will be shown face to face at her live single launch.
Clare Perrott shares her soul with the world in her debut single ‘Philadelphia’, out on May Friday, 16.

LUCA GEORGE ‘Better Apart’ (Single)
‘Better Apart’ is the first taste of Luca George’s new body of work, and was co-written with UK writer and artist Saint Raymond. Luca has sought out like-minded collaborators from across the globe to bring his musical vision to life – new music will feature co-writes that include Caleb Harper from AU indie darlings Spacey Jane, and UK singer/songwriter Gabrielle Aplin.
“With raw honesty, ‘Better Apart’ paints a picture of a love that burned bright but wasn’t meant to last. Haunted by old hoodies, familiar scents and the lingering question of whether anyone else could ever compare. The song blends nostalgia and heartache with a sense of gratitude, proving that even lost love can leave something beautiful behind,“ Luca George shares.
Luca George alongside directors Devan Narsai and Luke Penney, create a world for ‘Better Apart’ that explores the echoes of a former life. Made with the support of NZ On Air, the official video captures the tension of holding on to the pull of the past, while offering ethereal glimpses into prior memories, and finally culminating in a powerful moment of release.
Rooted in themes of longing, acceptance, and transformation, the official video released today is a journey crafted through meticulous art direction, dynamic lighting, experimental cinematography and seamless visual effects.
Watch the official music video clip ‘Better Apart’
“From the moment Luca sent me the track, it immediately struck me as something vast, cinematic, and emotionally expansive—all the elements I love bringing to life in a music video. We had an incredible time crafting this visual world, working alongside our brilliant art directors who built some truly stunning sets. The VFX, masterfully brought to life by our friend Dylan, added that extra layer of magic that helped tie everything together.
This was a true team effort, and I’m so proud of what we created. We hope the video captures not only the grandeur of the song but also the emotional core of Better Apart—its beauty, its heartbreak, and everything in between,” Devan Narsai shares.
Luca George brilliantly blends polish with raw vulnerability, combining a sharp sense of style, wit and undeniable charisma that lights up every room. With his distinctive, hauntingly expressive voice, he stands out as one of Australia’s most compelling artists to watch.

Kutcha, Cash And The Last Drinks Live at Forum II presents a unique and rare collaboration between two powerhouses of Australian music, in one of Melbourne’s most beautiful and intimate theatres, Forum II.
The power and beauty of Uncle Kutcha’s voice and songs, united with the sonic intensity of Cash Savage & The Last Drinks. Performing together as one, for one night only.
Kutcha Edwards, Mutti Mutti, Yorta Yorta, Nari Nari Songman has been prolifically combining songwriting and activism since he began making music in the 90’s. As one of Australia’s most respected Indigenous singer-songwriters, Kutcha’s music and community work have earned him iconic status amongst both Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
For this special performance, he will be joined onstage by Naarm/Melbourne heavyweights Cash Savage & The Last Drinks, who will re-interpret sections of his body of work. The Last Drinks legendary live shows are an overwhelming flood of emotion and sound. Each performance by this band is as epic as it is honest, raw and human. A cathartic, communal experience that refuses to give the audience an easy ethical bypass, but challenges listeners to ask themselves the hard questions and step up.
“At first I was apprehensive. How was an alternative post punk rock band going to interpret my Songline?” explains Kutcha. “When I got on stage, it was one of those unique moments where it all just happened. The band locked in on me. They interpreted the message of my Songline differently. The rawness was different and I was challenged but I was comfortable. It was exciting. It freed my spirit. I was able to connect and find the space to travel to my Dreaming and share my songs and stories in a new way. The moment was freeing. There was a collective freeness of spirit. We were all in sync. I felt it, everyone on stage felt it, the whole room filled with it.”
“It is such a privilege to be let into that space, to be able to be a part of Uncle’s storytelling,” says Cash. “Everyone in that room understood how special and how lucky we all were to be part of the experience. I’ve played a lot of shows but performing with Uncle Kutcha felt really different – it was transcendent. It stands as an outlier to any other show we have performed in our lives”
KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD share ‘Grow Wings and Fly’ video
Phantom Island out June 13th via p(doom) records. New Single out now via p(doom) records
Watch Music Video Pre-Save Album
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard recently announced their 27th album Phantom Island, out June 13th on their own p(doom) records, and have since unveiled two glimpses into their lushly orchestrated and most ambitious album to date: the jazz-tinged title track, and the absolute rave-up ‘Deadstick’. The band share the third offering from the Island, the tender-yet-propulsive ‘Grow Wings and Fly’. The accompanying video clip features an aquatic Ambrose Kenny-Smith being gently returned to the waters from whence he came. Find yourself someone that looks lovingly into your eyes the way Joey Walker does to Kenny-Smith.
“There are so many strange and beautiful ways to grow wings and fly,” explains video director Hayden Somerville. “We had a very special time down the coast with the band and our crew, releasing our sea creature—who somehow makes me feel a little ill and completely full of joy at the same time.”
Phantom Island marks the band’s second release on their own (p)doom records label, and sees our intrepid heroes add a new dimension to their ever-evolving songcraft, embracing the symphonic and embroidering their tangles of lysergic riff and melody with strings and horns and woodwind.
If Flight b741 was an album of rambunctious adventure stories, Phantom Island picks up that thread, spinning its tales of quests and piracy out into the stars. But it’s a more interior album than its predecessor, more melancholy – more “introverted”, bandleader Stu Mackenzie says. Sure, these are tales of high adventure in galaxies far, far away, but the focus is less on the action, and more on the interior lives of those adventurers, reflecting the kind of insight Gizz have gleaned from 15 years of travelling the world and leaving their homes behind to take their music to the people. There’s a wiser, more mature, more sensitive Gizz at play here, questioning their place within the universe, their responsibilities, the ties that bind. “When I was younger, I was just interested in freaking people out,” admits Mackenzie, “but as I get older, I’m much more interested in connecting with people.”
King Gizzard will embark on their 2025 Phantom Island orchestral tour this July. Featuring a different accompanying 29-piece orchestra in each city – and ably led by conductor & music director Sarah Hicks – the tour will see the group perform with some of the country’s most renowned ensembles, before concluding with Field of Vision, the band’s own 3-day residency camping event at Meadow Creek in Buena Vista, CO. This represents the band’s only U.S. tour of 2025, so don’t miss out on your fix for a full calendar year. Tickets available here.

THE LEMONHEADS REVEAL FIRST SINGLE ‘DEEP END’ FROM FORTHCOMING NEW ALBUM ‘LOVE CHANT’.
AUSTRALIAN TOUR KICKS OFF THIS WEEK.
LIMITED EDITION ‘DEEP END’ 12″ VINYL AVAILABLE AT THE SHOWS
The Lemonheads return with their first new album in almost two decades this Autumn. Rekindling the near-perfect pop for which they’re famed, they reveal a brand new single focusing on the light and dark of their impending new album ‘Love Chant’ that will be released on Fire Records later this year.
Coinciding with the start of their Australian tour this week, The Lemonheads tease new material with new single ‘Deep End’ out 14th May (1AM AEST May 15) alongside a new music video that was produced by Surreal Hotel Arts. The digital single release will be followed by a super-limited (500 copies only) 12” single available June 13. *** Australian & New Zealand fans will have the chance to snap up a copy of the LTD ED 12″ single on the band’s AUS/NZ tour ahead of everywhere else.***
Beautifully ill-balanced, ‘Deep End’ and ‘Sad Cinderella’ traverse the highs and lows of life, perfectly illustrating Evan Dando’s esoteric musical taste.
‘Deep End’ is a churning riff monster with light-the-blue-touch-paper guitar breaks by J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr, a compulsive fist-in-the-air piece of timeless punk pop, the perfect soundtrack for bumming a cigarette. Co-written with Australian sparring partner Tom Morgan of Smudge and featuring Juliana Hatfield, it signals a return down under for the band with several antipodean live dates scheduled this May.
Says Evan: “I’m beyond stoked to be heading back to Australia, just in time for the release of new music that I’ve been working on, including a single co-written with the incredibly talented Tom Morgan. Australia has always been a massive source of inspiration for my music, and with new music coming soon this feels like a dream come true. It’s also a special moment for me, as we wrap up celebrating the 30th anniversary of ‘It’s a Shame About Ray’ and ‘Come On Feel The Lemonheads’. To be able to mark the end of that era in Australia, a place that’s always felt like a second home, is almost like being blessed to move on to a new moment.”
Meanwhile, the flipside is straight out of the Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris songbook; a cover of the late, great Townes Van Zandt’s ‘Sad Cinderella’, it’s a song for the romantics, a tearjerker that could have made its way onto Neil Young’s ‘Harvest’, or any aching George Jones opus; filled with regret and remorse, it’s a beautifully brittle duet between Evan and Erin Rae.
So, two slices of the born-again Lemonheads; a mature phoenix rising from the ashes of this legendary band who’ve been away way too long.

MELBOURNE’S ONE-MAN POWER POP/POP-ROCK MACHINE, THE JIMMY C – AKA JAMIE COGHILL OF POWER POPPING GARAGE ROCKERS LAVA FANGS – RELEASES NEW SINGLE & VIDEO “DON’T CRY” FROM FORTHCOMING NEW ALBUM ‘REFRESHING’
The Jimmy C – the one-man Melbourne power pop/pop-rock machine and home recording project of Jamie Coghill of Lava Fangs – has released the new single and video “Don’t Cry”, from his forthcoming new album Refreshing, which is out June 13th.
The single follows the album’s first single “The Back Roads to Ruin”, the video for which was premiered by esteemed UK publication Vive Le Rock.
Since 2005, the 47-year-old Melbourne multi-instrumentalist, “drummer/songwriter”, husband and father Jamie Coghill has, as The Jimmy C, recorded 9 albums, 4 soundtrack albums for American independent film & T.V. and a few miscellaneous singles and E.P.s. He writes all the songs, plays all the instruments (except for a few rare guest spots) and records, mixes and masters it all himself. He even does his own graphic design. A completely sustainable hobby, Jamie makes music as well as balancing a day job and a family and has been performing live since 1994 in bands; Lava Fangs, The Devilrock Four, Fez Perez and Luxedo. Critically acclaimed and endorsed within the local music industry, The Jimmy C remains a secret treasure waiting to be discovered by the wider public.
This second single from the upcoming Refreshing album has been out in the world in its original low-fi incarnation since The Jimmy C’s 2009 CD album Glamour & Fame. But the chances of anyone having heard it are slim so, for all intents and purposes, this is a brand-new song (that was written 17 years ago) presented in a fresh, and much better recording.
The concept of The Jimmy C’s new album, Refreshing, is to take the best songs from The Jimmy C’s formative years (2004-2009) and present them anew with the benefit of over a decade of experience and musicianship and without the restrictions of recording to 4-track cassette tape and primitive mid-nineties recording software.
‘Don’t Cry’ was written at a time when The Jimmy C was constantly gigging playing drums with The Devilrock Four. Jimmy was, at the time, completely obsessed with The Zombies (and still is) and that heavily influenced the layers of vocal harmonies on this song. The Jimmy C hadn’t been writing for very long but this one turned out pretty damn good. The song itself lasts for barely a minute and changes gears into a rave-up outro. This new recording (and the others on Refreshing) finally do justice to the best of his early years of songwriting.
ABOUT THE JIMMY C
Power Pop is a genre known for one-man band type artists. Emitt Rhodes, Todd Rundgren, The Toms, and more. Even a chap named Paul McCartney was want to do it after his first band broke up. You can add to that list Melbourne musician Jamie Coghill, aka The Jimmy C.
Jamie first started making his presence felt around town at the end of the last millennium, playing drums in Luxedo and then Fez Perez. He was then part of the Devilrock Four – a band who made something of a name for themselves around town when rock came back in the ‘00s. Before the Devilrock Four released their second and final album in 2013, Jamie had already become The Jimmy C to indulge his purer pop tendencies; he released the first of numerous Jimmy C albums, Glamour & Fame, way back in 2009. Since then he’s been prolific, but has seriously flown under the radar.
Remarkably, as The Jimmy C he has also recorded and released a number of film and TV soundtracks – for obviously Academy-noted stuff (not!) like the 2020 Austin, Tx/LA indie production The Brides of Satan (out on Blu-Ray now!) and the web series The Adventures of Superseven.
In addition to all this, Jamie also co-fronts (if you can call a singing drummer a co-front man) the fabulously garage Lava Fangs, who released their acclaimed second album Sub Auroram in May last year.
A big fan of Redd Kross, XTC, Cheap Trick, The Move and other classic and clever power pop stuff as well as lots of garage punk stuff, plus some more left-field acts ranging from Ween to Super Furry Animals to the Queens of the Stoneage, The Jimmy C writes, sings and plays songs that combine those influences – plus a wider range of soundtrack (Morricone, Barry, Budd etc) and surf/exotica/etc instrumental stuff – and he does it really well.

Hein reflects, “I often feel lost and anxious about where my life is going, spending so much energy worrying when things don’t go as planned. Lately, I’ve been writing music to help me let go—like the ocean. The surface can be chaotic with wind and waves, but beneath, there’s a stillness, a flow, like a submarine drifting with the currents. It’s incredible where we can go when we trust and surrender.”
The forthcoming album My Own, set for release Friday May 23, represents Hein Cooper’s most authentic and transformative work to date. It’s a deeply personal album that chronicles his journey through self-doubt, self-discovery, and ultimately, self-acceptance.
Drawing inspiration from artists like Bon Iver, Nick Mulvey, and Ben Howard, Hein’s indie folk sound is both ethereal and grounded.

MIKA JAMES ‘NONNA’S TROLLEY’ Single Launch Show – Tix on sale now
Mika James celebrates the launch of her debut single, Nonna’s Trolley, on Friday 30th May at Shotkickers in Naarm. After releasing the joyful new track to the world last month, it has received huge support from radio, with triple j calling the track ‘effortless and absolutely timeless’.
James’s live show exudes a wildness that can’t be boxed. The amalgamation of her punk roots and folk voice has been personified in most recent packed live shows with the likes of Alex Lahey, Bones & Jones, Tia Gostelow and Andy Golledge. With a musical output that swerves from cinematic country to punk-infused blues – her music heaves with intent.
“Nonna’s Trolley is a song that was written out of the feeling you get when you overestimate how many things you can carry when you’re walking down the street – when you have to get from A to B but everything you’re carrying is impossibly balanced across bags strung on both shoulders, jean back-pockets and two waiter-style-full hands. You’re in a target stare of the destination but you can feel something slipping – it’s a panic laugh in a La la la. I wrote it in a time of my life where everything was a bit off-kilter and retrospectively wild, but when I looked down at all the things I was carrying, and the people who were at the A and B – I think of it as a highly special time in my life. Nonna’s Trolley is for the people who run into door frames and make Bolognese for their friends who come over and eat it in their bath, for champagne in the shower – It’s for the laugh when everything falls out of your arms after you try to pick up what fell out of the bag over your left shoulder.” – Mika James
