HELEN RYDER RELEASES ‘JOSEPHINE (LOVE IS EVERYTHING) – SINGLE
Josephine (Love Is Everything) is the second single from Helen Ryder’s new album Love Over Hate, which is due out November 7, 2025. The song is the full circle point on the album, reflecting the positivity of Magnetic Field – the first single lifted from the album, released in early June of this year.
Echoes of the Laurel Canyon sound, with a touch of acoustic folk guitar through the verses and a transcendent psychedelic chorus, sees Josephine (Love Is Everything) offering up a vastly different sound musically from the gossamer pop of its predecessor.
Helen describes Josephine (Love Is Everything) as “a song about my mother’s adventurous personality and how she instilled a love of life and freedom in me. It is about my mother’s brave move to a new country leaving all that she knew behind. It is about reinvention and fearlessness and ‘trusting in the greatest thing of all’ – love – to see you through life and its many ups and downs.”
Helen continues, “The references to finding the ‘colours in between’ are two-fold. My mother always wanted to pursue fine arts but her family became the focus, the case for so many women of her generation, so I think she lived that dream by encouraging her children to be creative. She often helped me with painting and poetry by suggesting alternative views and her phrases always struck me as being immediate for the task but also about life in general.”
Describing the music, Helen goes on to say, “I wrote this on guitar, choosing to make the verses folk like and the chorus to be a bit trippy. Psychedelic in a subtle way. The bridge is a testimony to my mother’s strong values of kindness, which is how she lives her life. There was talk of leaving that section out and going all choruses but it is an important part of the song for me.”

Australian singer-songwriter Helen Ryder has performed at the ARIA Awards with The Whitlams, the Darling Harbour Jazz Festival with Tina Harrod, and with her Ode To Bobbie Gentry show; the Americana festival Out on the Weekend, Caravan Music Club, and George Lane. She has also opened for Vika & Linda Bull, Russell Morris and The Badloves, and currently plays locally at venues in her hometown of Melbourne.
With her early memories soundtracked by the likes of Dusty Springfield, Bob Dylan and The Beatles, Helen would spend her teens immersed in music spanning pop, folk, country, soul and jazz. Her early experiences performing live reflected her love of experimentation and the aim to become a versatile singer, weaving effortlessly between genres.
In 2015, Helen released her debut album, Someday Love, receiving acclaim from music industry tastemakers such as Brian Wise and Jeff Jenkins, alongside strong airplay support from the likes of Radio National, Triple R FM, PBS FM and 2SER FM. MUCH-LOVED ’80s/EARLY ’90s ALTERNATIVE CHART-TOPPING MELBOURNE INDIE-FOLK ROCK BAND THE HOLLOWMEN TO RELEASE 35TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION OF CLASSIC SO LONG ALBUM AND CELEBRATE RELEASE WITH A “THIS IS WHERE IT ALL BEGAN” SHOW AT THE TOTE
The Hollowmen, the much-loved ’80s/early ’90s alternative chart-topping Melbourne indie-folk rock band fronted by famous broadcaster and bon vivant, Billy Baxter, have announced a 35th Anniversary reissue of their classic So Long album and one-off gig at The Tote. The reissue will be released October 10. The show – on October 11 – follows what was meant to be a one-off anniversary show at St Kilda’s George Lane earlier in the year. Such a good time was had by all – including CHEERSQUAD boss Wally Kempton, who suggested an anniversary reissue of the album on the spot – that they’re doing it again on the other side of town.
“The Hollowmen played some of their very early shows at The Tote back in late 1985 and now come full circle for one final planned show for 2025.
“Having reformed this year to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the album ‘So Long’ the band will feature music from this release as well as dipping into their back catalogue for some choice cuts.
“The gig also celebrates the reissue of ‘So Long’ on vinyl through CHEERSQUAD Records.
“Joining The Hollowmen for some tunes will be Jen Anderson on violin who played many live shows with the band its latter years.
“Kicking off the gig will be special guests ‘Jonnie Goes To Church’ featuring Celia Church and former Hollowmen member Jon von Goes. “
Having formed in 1985, The Hollowmen had, by 1990, already released two albums, including their first for Au-go-go, Broken Stuff. With two previous line ups behind the band, Gina Hearnden had joined Mal Stanley and Billy Baxter on vocals to establish an intuitive and intoxicating harmonic blend. Drummer Archie Cuthbertson and bassist John Drayton remained; they were and are the equal of any rhythm section, anywhere. The band was buoyed by the new material and a refreshed attitude and more than ready to record what became So Long in 1990.
So Long, which includes a stunning interpretation of Hüsker Dü’s “Don’t Wanna Know If You Are Lonely”, would become their most successful and immediate release. It topped the independent charts but also proved apocryphal; the band would sadly break up in 1991 leaving the stage after a mammoth 3 hour sold out show at The Club.
But the passage of time has done nothing to diminish the joyful luster of The Hollowmen’s soulful and rough-hewn jingle-jangle. Now is the chance to revisit their classic album and catch the line-up that made it – don’t miss it.

PERTURBATOR Shares Menacing New Single ‘Mors Ultima Ratio’ From New Album AGE OF AQUARIUS
PERTURBATOR – the Paris-based composer/producer/multi-instrumentalist James Kent–today released ‘Mors Ultima Ratio,’ the fourth single previewing his new album Age of Aquarius due out on October 10th via Nuclear Blast Records. ‘Mors Ultima Ratio’ is a menacing, high-intensity instrumental that could serve as the soundtrack to a final boss battle (fitting, as PERTURBATOR’s work scoring the Hotline Miami video game is celebrated in Decibel Magazine’s October issue). The song’s moody introduction sets a tense tone and slowly builds to a beautiful synth crescendo. “This was inspired by industrial music and black metal. The title roughly translates to ‘Death is the final accounting,’” Kent explains.
‘Mors Ultima Ratio’ follows album singles ‘The Swimming Pool,’ ‘Apocalypse Now,’ featuring lead vocals by Norwegian metal titan Kristoffer Rygg (Ulver), and ‘The Art of War,’ which earned praise and support from Brooklyn Vegan, Metal Injection, Exclaim!, Metal Sucks, The PRP, New Noise, MXDWN, and more. On Age of Aquarius, PERTURBATOR offers up a more propulsive spin on his moody early work, showcasing his most confident, plainly beautiful, and thematically refined music to date. Where his previous album, 2021’s Lustful Sacraments, was about bad habits and addiction, his sixth LP – mastered by Jaime Gomez Arellano (Ghost, Opeth) and also featuring Alcest, Author & Punisher and Greta Link – explores how individualism, conflict, and war are interrelated and dominant societal forces. Both brutal and sublime, Age of Aquarius feels like the musical equivalent of a scream into the existential void.
Kent intentionally chooses very evocative song titles since most of his tracks lack lyrics and primarily convey mood through instrumentals. “I like to think of every album as a movie,” he says. “The tracks are all scenes from that one big movie.” The most brutal scene, then, is ‘The Art of War,’ which ranks among Kent’s hardest-hitting songs; its vivid, forceful production attests to the two and a half years he spent tirelessly mastering and elevating his signature style (he wrote, recorded, performed, produced, and mixed the record himself, minus the guest vocals and lyrics). The track embodies the very sound of going into battle, and it could well be the album’s thesis. “It’s more of war as an idea than a concrete event,” Kent says about the LP’s subject matter. It’s no surprise his distinct style of electronic body music (EBM) – built on a DNA of post-punk, goth, and techno influences – has widely appealed to fans of new wave, industrial, and metal alike (his recent collaborators and tourmates HEALTH are an apt comparison).
We might always be in conflict as a species – with others and ourselves – but with Age of Aquarius, Kent provides its fantastic score.

HARPER BLOOM SHARES QUIRKY NEW SINGLE ‘GIRL LIKE YOU’
Naarm/Melbourne based artist Harper Bloom has unveiled her latest indie-pop earworm “Girl Like You”. The colourful new track is the second arrival from Harper’s forthcoming EP House Of Cards due for release in October. Bringing her beaming energy to BIGSOUND 2025 in September, both industry and fans alike will get to experience “Girl Like You” in live form at the largest music industry gathering in the Southern Hemisphere.
“Girl Like You” sees Harper swept up in the allure of a mysterious woman, drawn to her with a magnetic pull. With an addictively groove-infused bassline and peculiar lyrics, you can’t resist the urge to follow along for the ride.
Harper shared, “Tim Cox and I wrote this track at the end of last year. We were watching this woman on the street, she was behaving in this erratic and deviant way, and I got this idea of being around a woman that you know is dangerous, but the danger kind of allures you and lights a little fire, even though your body is telling you to stay away. We wrote the track from that idea, so the verse lyrics are about the encounters with a dangerous woman and the chorus is about having fun really and it turned into one of the biggest tracks on the EP (big thanks to Ed Quinn for a huge help in fleshing out the production to make it more of a party anthem). We love playing it live!! And of course, we had to touch on croissants and inflation …. we love a bit of quirk in the lyrics”

LATE 90s get real on visceral new single, ‘LOW’
Perth alt-rockers LATE 90s have unveiled their visceral new single, ‘Low.’ A fierce and gritty number exploring an inner battle with self hatred, the single strikes a beautiful balance between hardship and hope. While it recites these moments and feelings of defeat, and of a pull towards “the void,” it simultaneously makes note of the “waiting” for something more;
“‘Low’ is about that internal monologue of self love and self loathing – knowing you’re heading off course and wanting to be better but you just don’t know how to be a better version of yourself and then beating yourself up for it.” LATE 90s
Expanding on the origins of the track, the band’s Stephen Loreck detailed: “last year I struggled a bit with self esteem and valuing myself. Sometimes you don’t know where to start to get better, maybe you’re waiting for someone or something to happen for you to get your shit together.”
Recorded at Perth’s Emerald Room Studios, ‘Low’ was a largely DIY venture, seeing the band’s very own Stephen Loreck take on production duties for the very first time on a LATE 90s track. With mixing to follow by the band’s live sound engineer Emmett Carroll, and mastering by Brodie Stewart, the song came to life over a patient and exciting period of learning and experimenting;
“The process of making ‘Low’ was so different to any other song we have done as we took way more of a DIY approach, with me producing the song. We started recording this song before our previous EP came out so we had a bit of time to obsess over all the parts, trying everything we could to just give the song an extra 10% for example tracking vocals 3 different times and bass twice haha. Some of our favourite parts of the song we wrote in the studio, just trying out random stuff, so having the time and freedom to experiment more was something we really valued. It was also really beneficial to have Emmett Carroll (our live sound engineer) involved as he provided a lot of technical support, engineering when I was playing guitar or singing and coming up with some good ideas.” LATE 90s
Drawing influence from the likes of alt-metal icons Deftones, alt-pop & rock legends Paramore, and emo kings Basement, LATE 90s has shaped their own sound into something reminiscent of past greats, all the while tying together elements of something so fresh and distinct. With over 2.1 million Spotify streams and having spent recent years touring with the likes of Neck Deep, Taking Back Sunday, State Champs, Hot Mulligan, Free Throw, Short Stack, Slowly Slowly and more, the band have recently announced their inclusion on the 2025 BIGSOUND line-up, which will see them bringing the heat to Brisbane this September.

TRACEY BUNN ’ANOTHER BROKEN JULIET’ – SINGLE
James Bond meets Marty Robbins in a soundtrack for a Tarantino-esque Spaghetti Western with female leads. This describes the title track of Tracey Bunn’s first self-produced album Another Broken Juliet, a collaboration with lyricist Peter Hayes, 10 tales of broken hearts, murder and desolation.
Another Broken Juliet is a collection of songs originally created as a catalogue for pitching to music libraries for placement in film and TV. Tracey’s fanbase got wind of the new songs and convinced her to release them as an album. And we’re lucky they did!
It is a collaboration between lyricist Peter Hayes and Tracey as composer and producer, this being her first self-produced recording since her solo debut By the Wayside in 2011, produced by Anne McCue.
“I was very fortunate to have friend and fellow Aussie Anne McCue on board as mix engineer on this new album, to guide me through the production process as well as adding her distinctive guitar sound. Anne and I had worked together on my first solo album, By the Wayside in Nashville in 2011. Unfortunately, she had to renege on the mixing job after just two songs to go out on an extensive tour, as an unexpected health issue for me had put production on hold.”
Through a recommendation Tracey reached out to mix engineer Robyn Payne from AD Audio in Melbourne, and mastering engineer Martin Pullan from Edensounds Mastering.
“They were the dream team for me. They totally got what I was looking for from the start, had such a great sense of humour and were super fun to work with.”
Peter’s lyrics are a sharp detour from her usual uplifting stories, and it was a challenge for Tracey to bring to these dark characters and tales of murder and broken hearts some kind of hope through the music she composed. A lot of the songs are a step away from her usual country folk style, but some still have that cheeky accordion and fiddle that you would recognise from her work with Gleny Rae in Toe Sucking Cowgirls.
“The process involved Pete texting me some lyrics and then after reading the first line, I’d know whether I needed to pick up my guitar immediately to get a rough idea of the melody down. I have no idea how these fully formed tunes, complete with instrumentation and arrangements come to me but I’m super grateful that some musician soul with unfinished business is sending them down!”
During the production process, as the songs were finished, Tracey soft released the first 5 songs to her small fan base whose positive reactions gave her encouragement to keep going.
“There were a few times that I fell foul of the dreaded imposter syndrome and wondered what the hell I was doing! But after two and a half years it’s finally done, and I’m proud of what I’ve created.”
Another Broken Juliet is available August 4th on all platforms except for Spotify.
Tracey has chosen to join the groundswell of musicians who are boycotting Spotify and not releasing music to the platform due to CEO Daniel Ek’s involvement with Military startup Helsing, and his history of paying artists poverty wages. Her music can be streamed through all other services including TIDAL, Apple Music and YouTube.
“I will not allow my songs to be turned into bombs. Profits made from music should be reinvested in creative arts. Music is not a commodity to make the rich richer. Artists deserve to be paid fairly.”

“Like a lot of people, I grew up internalising a patriarchal script about sex and relationships that really does not set women up for fulfilling connections,” Laura shares. “There was a point in my early twenties when I started to interrogate that script, and this song is a product of that questioning.”

With its sharp lyricism and cinematic production, “Woman” marks one of the most emotionally potent moments on There’s A Place I Go – Laura’s bold and introspective debut album recorded in London with acclaimed producer Tom Iansek (Big Scary, #1 Dads, Maple Glider, Lisa Mitchell). Due out Friday November 14, the record blends indie folk intimacy with expansive, atmospheric layers, exploring themes of identity, longing, womanhood, and self-acceptance – culminating in a record that is as intimate as it is fearless.
Earlier this year, she began unveiling the album through singles “Reincarnation Song” – an existential, hopeful meditation on life’s cycles – and “Did The Mountain Change You?”, a softly aching track about holding onto hope that’s no longer yours. There’s a Place I Go follows Laura’s 2023 EP The Dreamer and a run of celebrated collaborations, including “When The Fire Started” with Israel Cannan, “I Imagine You Are Happy” with Lawson Hull, and “A Quiet Heart Is An Unused Heart” with Ciaran Lavery.
“There’s a Place I Go,” Laura says of the album’s title, “refers to thinking of creative expression as not just something one does, but a place that you go to – a sort of retreat from the rest of the world. I wanted to call my first album this to honour what songwriting means to me, and to remind myself that that ‘place’ is the core of what I’m doing and why I make music in the first place.”

Tin Town is the new collaboration between seasoned Australian artists Courtney Robb and Snooks La Vie. As a wife-and-husband duo, they deliver grounded, folk-country melodies and unfiltered storytelling. Their songs feel vulnerable but intentional – the kind of music that doesn’t need to raise its voice to be heard.
Robb’s textured vocals are arresting in their honesty, carrying the weight of the lyrics without overselling them. La Vie’s harmonica is a vital thread in the Tin Town sound – melancholic one minute, cutting the next – adding colour and character in all the right places. It gives their songs a sense of movement and mood that lingers long after the final note.
It is clear the duo values space, clarity, and emotional truth. Their music is not polished to a shine, and that’s the point. Tin Town sounds like real life: a bit weathered, a bit tender, always authentic.
Both Robb and La Vie have a strew of individual musical successes under their belts. Robb was unearthed by Triple J in 2010, at the start of her songwriting journey and has been a mainstay on the South Australian folk scene ever since, with four solo albums released over the past 15 years. Her most recent release won the Adelaide Roots and Blues Association “Roots Album of the Year” and had great reach throughout Australia and Europe.
As the former frontman of The Hiptones, Snooks La Vie has earned recognition through a South Australian Music Award for Best Blues Band/Act, an APRA nomination for Blues/Roots Work of the Year, and a major label signing. He was also named South Australian Blues Vocalist of the Year for three consecutive years. Over the course of his career, Snooks has shared stages and tour bills with artists such as Chris Isaak, Steve Earle, Taj Mahal, Mud Morganfield, The Black Sorrows, and The Teskey Brothers.
After playing together for the past few years, they are excited to officially join forces to release new music as Tin Town. The name Tin Town was inspired by the Port Adelaide Wool Stores Heritage Precinct — a place the duo now calls home. Nicknamed “Tin Town” for its corrugated iron houses, wide dusty streets, rich history and colourful characters, the area offers a steady stream of creative inspiration for their music.
Tin Town’s debut album due for release in 2025, will feature twelve original tracks, recorded with producer Ryan Martin John of Cactus Cactus Sound. Think folk, country, and blues in equal measure – best heard with a glass of red in hand and nowhere to be.

The new release continues Sycco’s evolution through kaleidoscopic psych-pop, introspection, and club-ready moments. TORIZON UNLEASH FURY WITH CATHARTIC SINGLE ‘ECHOES’

‘Echoes’ unfurls with a glitchy xylophone before erupting into an explosion of downtuned riffs, thumping bass, and cinematic orchestral motifs. Frontwoman Mish Sharma’s fierce belts and bassist Ben Gallaher’s cathartic screams channel the collision of grief and trauma of miscarriage. Swerving from spitfire verses dripping with pop-sass to dissonant breakdowns that hit like a landslide, ‘Echoes’ is a nod to luminaries like Gojira and Evanescence.
Mish touches on the meaning behind ‘Echoes’:
“This is the fourth chapter in Luna and Sam’s story, which sees them turn to each other for support as they navigate the grief of pregnancy loss. The lyric ‘echoes’ represents painful memories that keep dragging them back into the same exhausting loops. This song was a blast to record! Ben and I got to experiment with different vocal textures to showcase the emotional toll. It’s always been the crowd favourite in our live set.”
Accompanying the release is a short video by Emerge Creative, shot at Mish’s home and Bunker Creative Studio in Meanjin/Brisbane. “This video focuses on a side of infertility that’s often overlooked, the partner of the person who miscarried”, Mish explains. “You’ll see Sam’s struggle with grief and Luna reminiscing about their journey so far. One of the shots features my real journal; it was a last-minute decision, and I ended up speed-writing a few pages from Luna’s perspective.”
This year has seen Torizon release a slew of singles aimed at shedding light on the challenges of infertility. These were warmly received by Music Feeds, Backseat Mafia, The Music, HEAVY Mag, Apple Music’s ‘Breaking Hard Rock’, ‘The Riff’ (AU/NZ), ‘New In Rock’ (AU/NZ) and ‘Bring The Noise’ (NZ), with ‘Bloom’ amassing over 10,000 Spotify streams within the first week. Richard Ashcroft Unveils The New Single ‘Lovin’ You’. The Title Track From His New Album, Out October 10th. Single out now via Virgin Music Group
Richard Ashcroft has spent much of the summer inspiring huge singalongs to classics like ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ and ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’ as special guest on Oasis’s stadium tour. It inspired Louder’s review to hail him as, “Every inch the rock star with his cut cheekbones, swaggering walk, soaring voice and armed with songs that could go toe to toe with almost anyone.” He made such an impact that his upcoming UK headline tour has snowballed with several additional dates confirmed following phenomenal demand for tickets.
It positions Richard Ashcroft to make maximum impact when his new album Lovin’ You is released on October 10th – and he further amplifies anticipation by sharing the record’s title track as his new single. It features a recording of the iconic guitar riff from Mason Williams’ Grammy-winning 1968 track ‘Classical Gas’. Mason Williams was delighted when he heard the new song ‘Lovin’ You’.
The ‘Lovin’ You’ single is representative of Richard’s ability to continue to evolve his sound, without losing sight of his core artistic identity. His inventive use of loops combined with punchy, hip-hop beats shows a fresh flair for the unconventional.
The single was written by Richard with a co-writing credit for Mason Williams for the ‘Classical Gas’ riff. Richard co-produced the track with Emre Ramazanoglu.

AUSTRALIAN PRODUCER/DJ, PARIS, RELEASES DEBUT ALBUM LABYRINTH
Australian producer, DJ, and artist PARIS has today released her debut album, Labyrinth, via Lane 8’s imprint This Never Happened. Spanning twelve original tracks and featuring collaborations with Juno Mamba and Rinzen, the record marks the culmination of over a decade of evolution in sound, identity, and creative vision.
From the moment opener ‘Genesis’ emerges in a shadowy, pulsing groove, Labyrinth invites listeners inward, each track a turn within the maze, revealing a new facet of the artist’s voice. The album traverses the break-driven shimmer of ‘Flourish’, the soaring euphoria of ‘Stay’ with Juno Mamba, the atmospheric tension of ‘Wildfire’ with Rinzen, and the introspective textures of ‘Papaya’ and ‘Rain on a Monday’. Anchoring the record is the nature-inspired ‘Beechworth Cascades’, built from field recordings captured on a spontaneous solo hike in regional Victoria.
“The labyrinth felt like the perfect metaphor for this process,” PARIS explains. “Going inward, exploring, making sense of all these parts of myself, and then surfacing with something to share. With a labyrinth, you go in, but you also come out – and there’s only one path.”
The album’s darker, groovier tones have been road-tested at PARIS’ “Into The Labyrinth” club nights in Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne, and will now form the foundation for an expanded run of intimate club shows and experiential showcases across Australia. Each event will feature a full album playback, a PARIS DJ set, immersive projections, and venues carefully chosen to connect the music to local audiences. The series kicks off in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Byron Bay through late August and September.
International touring is also on the horizon, including support slots for Lane 8 and Sultan + Shepard in South Africa this October and PARIS’ first North American shows in several years for This Never Happened Presents in Chicago and Denver.
With Labyrinth, PARIS steps confidently into a new chapter – one rooted in instinct, honesty, and the kind of sonic storytelling that lingers long after the last note fades.

Benjamino Steps Out in Single ‘Own Two Feet’

Benjamino bids toxicity farewell and finds strength in their stride with ‘Own Two Feet’, a cinematic slice of alt-R&B. The single arrives alongside the announcement of their highly anticipated debut album ‘Cucino’, set for release on Friday, November 21.
As a seasoned audio engineer and lifelong musician, music is the lifeblood of Benjamino. His track record is vast and varied, and his music is a mirror image of him with its playful melodies and introspective lyrics in his blend of alt R&B, nu-disco and dream pop.
‘Own Two Feet’ is the latest in a string of monthly single releases that lead into Benjamino’s most ambitious project. ‘Cucino’ brings the warmth and playfulness of a home-cooked meal to a sonic level, all while paying homage to their Italian heritage. Benjamino states:
“Releasing a song nearly every month this year has been a difficult task, but I honestly think I wouldn’t be able to produce an album without that kind of schedule. With full time work as a recording engineer, as well as gigs for other artists and events, there isn’t much spare time. But, at the end of the day, an album isn’t going to create itself.”
Building up from a quirky muzak-inspired beat, ‘Own Two Feet’ is a slice of feel-good alt-R&B, balancing vintage textures with modern soul. With cinematic bridges and sunny choruses, Benjamino showcases their vocal aptitude and how easily they can dance between emotions to build a number that feels theatrical. Though it was added last, it’s the solo provided by Donata Greco, Italian flautist extraordinaire, that makes the song sparkle like soda.
‘Own Two Feet’ embodies the freedom that comes from leaving a toxic environment, one that is impossible to thrive in. It is a tricky thing, but those first few steps have to be taken. After writing the hook on the way to a gig, it seemed like their life became a self-fulfilling prophecy, with the tension and toxicity around them bubbling up and making itself known. Benjamino explains that,
“In the span of a few months, I knew all about needing to stand on my own two feet!”

Speaking about the LP, CMAT said: “EURO-COUNTRY is, I think, the best thing I have ever made. I felt halfway through recording it was the most important record I’ve made for myself… mainly because it was making me go crazy.
“I’m always going to make the work I want to make, because there is a little gremlin in my head that tells me if it’s shit. More than success, there’s a bigger gremlin that wants me to make music that’s really good. She’s brutal and has ruined my life at times, but she is the keeper of my life and she’s always right.”
Despite this being her third album, this fully-formed acronymic star feels like she’s been part of the culture forever. EURO-COUNTRY follows 2023’s brilliant Crazymad, For Me – an album that propelled her to wider attention and garnered numerous accolades: including a BRITs Best International Artist nod; and ‘Best Album’ nominations from the Ivors; Mercury Prize and the Choice Music Prize in her native Ireland (an award she won for her debut, If My Wife New I’d Be Dead).

The new album – out now via AWAL Recordings – was recorded in New York and co-produced by long-time collaborator Oli Deakin and CMAT. EURO-COUNTRY tackles a number of big themes including personal reflections on economics, identity and grief.
“The album title works on three levels: the kind of country music I make; the fact that Ireland is a European country, a country run by the euro, and capitalism is one of the worst things to ever happen to us.
So I would consider this my most country record, as in, steeped in the traditions of country. But neither Oli [Deakin, Producer] or I wanted to make something that we’d heard before. If we know that the thing we’re doing already exists, we have to fight against it, and find a more interesting, more beautiful way of making it. So there’s slide guitar and fiddle playing, but to a lot of listeners it will sound not country, but it is! We were just trying to bend the barriers of it a bit.
And on a wider level, EURO-COUNTRY is the name I’ve given to the pain of the loss of community that has happened over the last twenty to thirty years. Nobody is hanging out anymore, nobody is talking to each other, nobody is living together anymore. The shape of life, not just family life, but adult life, has completely transformed from the way it was before the internet and gig economy and I feel like it’s so responsible for so much of the societal and mental health issues that are really drilling everyone under the age of 35 right now. It feels so individualistic. It feels like such a product of late capitalism. And I couldn’t get it out of my head.”

Recorded at Blackbird Studios and produced by David Parkin (Old Mervs, Great Gable, and Spacey Jane), the track is the first taste of new music since their acclaimed debut album The Bliss and sets the tone for a high-octane run into 2025’s festival season.
“‘TOP OF THE HILL’ is about being yourself and being loved for who you are. There’s always a place for you in this world,” the band share. “We stumbled across the chords the night of our album launch after a few backyard drinks with friends. Even though we’d just released The Bliss, we knew we had something special, so we kept the spark alive and picked it back up a few months later with Marlon from Six60 in Sydney — our first time writing with another artist. That fresh perspective took it somewhere new, and Parko brought it all together in the final recording.”
The accompanying music video, directed by Brendan Cecich, captures South Summit’s playful spirit in full flight – quite literally – as they hurl themselves down the steep slopes of the Kalamunda Hills in their own chaotic take on the famous cheese roll race. “We probably ran down that hill ten times, battering ourselves in the process, but it was worth it. Josh took the biggest stacks, Fynn drew blood, and the next day felt like we’d all played in a rugby final.”

MITCHELL STEELE TEAMS UP WITH KASEY CHAMBERS ON HIS DEBUT SINGLE ‘WORN OUT WEST’
Mitchell Steele isn’t the kind of cowboy you’ve met before. His debut single, ‘Worn Out West’, produced by Kasey Chambers and Brandon Dodd at Rabbit Hole Studios, is the sound of a Far North Queensland country boy turning years of grit, dust, and dreams into music that’s organic and unapologetically stylish.
Kasey Chambers remembers when she first heard Mitchell at the Academy of Country Music in Tamworth. “I was immediately taken by his incredible voice, honest songwriting, and dazzling personality, all within just one song. I instantly felt like everyone in the room had connected with his heart, soul, and story.” That instant spark grew into a natural co-writing partnership and the honour of producing his debut.
Alongside Brandon Dodd the pair crafted the song in Rabbit Hole Studios, layering jangly guitars over a driving backbeat, the perfect framework for Mitchell’s storied vocal. The track captures the impossible dream Mitchell carried as a boy.
“I think we perfectly encapsulated the feeling of what it was like for me growing up in regional Far North Queensland and having a dream of being a country music singer. In my tiny corner of the world, it felt like the impossible. ‘Worn Out West’ is a song of resilience, acceptance, triumph and never giving up!”
In the studio, the song moved with its own momentum. “Recording ‘Worn Out West’ was a very easy process for us. This song really did take on a life of its own from the start. It had its own unique sound and yet it was still very country and earthy. It just breezed through the studio effortlessly!” recalls Mitchell.
Before music called him into the studio, Mitchell lived the life many country artists only sing about, mustering cattle, fighting bushfires, crossing floodwaters to save livestock and sleeping under the stars. At 18, he swapped fencing pliers for a microphone in the Australian Outback Spectacular, performing to crowds of up to 1,000 a night. Over six years, and three productions later, he found his voice and his stage presence – an experience he calls one of the greatest of his life.
His style – striking shirts, classic denim, and cowboy boots – turns heads as easily as his voice turns ears, earning him the People’s Choice Award at the 2025 Tamworth Country Music Festival Busking Finals. “Mitchell was a clear crowd favourite,” says Kasey. “He showed the Australian country music industry that fans are ready for this flamboyant cowboy. Mitchell is one of the most authentic and unique country artists I have ever heard come out of Australia” she adds. “I feel privileged to have had a hand in bringing his songs to life for his first ever public release.”

FANNY LUMSDEN NEW SINGLE “LOOK AT ME NOW”
Hot on the heels of a hugely successful eight weeks touring Europe this summer and currently on her first national arena tour with Paul Kelly, Australian dynamo Fanny Lumsden releases a brand-new single “Look At Me Now”, reflecting on her musical journey so far. (Out now)
Recorded whilst on the road in Europe, featuring her live band The Prawn Stars, Fanny said of the new single: “This is a love letter to my younger self. The amount of “no’s” I experienced in this industry is wild and every single one I am grateful for because they made me the person and artist I am today. Not the wins but all the losses, the struggles and the hard moments. I think it’s also a reminder that ‘success’ can be an illusion and really you can find success in every step along the way. It’s a cliche but I’m feeling reflective and grateful that I can still be driving the van, self-managed, doing my own make up in the rear-view mirror and yet doing the biggest shows of my career all at the same time.”
“I wanted this song to feel real and hopeful and authentic to my live band who do all the miles with me and load the van and see the lows as well as the highs. Recording it was a crazy process of fitting in recording sessions whilst on the road. So, we are very grateful to Matt Fell for wielding his magic and helping us make it happen.”
On August 23, Fanny rounded off eight weeks in Europe by opening the main stage at the prestigious The Long Road Festival in Leicestershire following a run that had taken in a triumphant 23 date headline tour, a sold-out Country Halls tour in Scotland, 7 festivals and a support slot with fellow Australian singer-songwriter Paul Kelly. Maintaining her reputation as “the hardest working woman in showbiz”, Fanny stepped off the stage that Saturday straight on to a plane back home to open for Kelly on his Antipodean Arena Tour with Lucinda Williams.
Her The Long Road performance garnered praise in the UK press, where Entertainment Focus chose her as one of its Top Ten highlights of the festival and said, “It’s obvious she loves the UK audience… and that feeling seemed very much mutual, so I hope it won’t be too long until she’s back.” Country In The UK, in its Ones To Watch feature, stated: “the most uplifting set that you will see all weekend which is guaranteed to put the biggest smile on your face.” She was also chosen for the BBC’s live coverage from Belladrum Festival in Scotland.

BROKEN CREEK -THE RED BARN-SINGLE
A gothic murder ballad reimagined, told through women’s voices. The Red Barn unfolds like a period thriller of doomed love, haunted visions, and a story women refuse to let die.
Broken Creek’s new single The Red Barn is no ordinary murder ballad. Drawn from a true crime story that transfixed London in 1826, the song crossed oceans with Irish migrant families and was kept alive for generations by women singing in kitchens, around fires, and on verandahs.
Broken Creek unearthed this version through the crackling archival tapes of Australian folk legend Sally Sloane, held in the National Library of Australia. “It was like hearing a voice from the past,” recalls Lachlan (banjo) “These songs had been transmuted in the Australian bush from Irish heritage, carried down through women who often faced dangerous men, alone in the bush.”
“These ballads were survival stories” adds Erin, “they reminded women they weren’t alone.”
The Red Barn centres Maria Marten, murdered by her lover William Corder, and her step-mother, whose recurring visions of the crime site haunted her until justice was found. By foregrounding these women’s voices, Broken Creek reclaim the song as more than a blood-soaked ballad — it’s a testament to women’s resilience.
The track features the haunting, age-old tones of a fretless banjo, underscoring Erin’s aching vocal delivery. The song dissolves into Morning Star, a tune Sally Sloane herself played, creating a bridge between past and present.
“It’s not enough to just sing a murder ballad,” Erin explains. “We want to tell the women’s stories. Where are the songs of the women of the bush? They were definitely singing — and we want those voices heard.”

The Red Barn is the lead single from Broken Creek’s forthcoming EP Folk from the Archive: Sally Sloane, a collection of six songs and tunes reimagined from the repertoire of Sally Sloane (1894–1982), one of Australia’s most important traditional singers. Recorded in the outback while on their first tour, Broken Creek dug into the archives to bring forgotten songs back to life with fresh interpretations.
“Australiana has been defined so much through men’s stories — the bush ballads about shearers and stockmen. We wanted to reimagine that. Sally Sloane showed us that women were singing in the bush too. Their songs are here, and they deserve to be sung again.”

Cate Le Bon presents the new single and visualiser ‘About Time,’ the final album preview leading into the September 26th release of Michelangelo Dying via Mexican Summer.
With a backdrop of looping drones and percussive synths, Le Bon starkly announces, “I’m not lying in a bed you made.” It’s one of the most melodically direct songs on an album spearheaded by emotion. ‘About Time‘ follows ‘Heaven Is No Feeling‘ and ‘Is It Worth It (Happy Birthday)?,’ described by Stereogum as a “six-minute labyrinthine sprawl of fluorescent synths, dazed guitar strums, and a saxophone.”
The product of all-consuming heartache, Le Bon’s feelings overrode her reluctance to write an album about love, and in the process became a kind of exorcism. What emerges is a wonderfully iridescent attempt to photograph a wound before it closes up — but which in doing so, picks at it too. Michelangelo Dying is centred on the many states of existence within love and its aftermath as Le Bon found herself surrendering to the abstraction of intense feeling and the grieving of a fantasy.
While in recent years Le Bon has become a sought-after producer, working alongside Wilco, Horsegirl, Devendra Banhart and St. Vincent, the production of Michelangelo Dying was shared with collaborator Samur Khouja. To a similar end, her longstanding collaboration with saxophonist Euan Hinshelwood is a main thread of her sonic landscape. He’s joined by similarly close friends: Paul Jones on piano; Dylan Hadley on drums, Valentina Magaletti on drums and percussion, as well as John Cale, who makes a poignant appearance on the mournful ‘Ride.’
An exercise in the viscerality of life, of love, of humanity for both listener and artist, Michelangelo Dying knows what it is to hold, to be held, and to be exquisitely, profoundly alone. There are ultimately, Cate asserts, “No revelations. No conclusions. There is no reason. There is repetition and chaos.”
Le Bon will embark on a tour across Europe, the United Kingdom and North America kicking off in late 2025 and continuing into early 2026. Tickets are now on sale and available here.

BLAKE.08 RELEASES DEBUT ALBUM FROM SYDNEY WITH LOVE
Rising Sydney producer Blake.08 today releases his debut album From Sydney With Love via Anjunadeep, ahead of his first national headline tour of the same name, kicking off in late August. Entirely self-produced in his Sydney home studio, the 10-track album blends deep house, breakbeat, and nostalgic electronica – each track offering a snapshot of Blake’s relationship with music, identity, and the city that shaped him.
A deeply personal and musically rich body of work, From Sydney With Love spans 15 years of artistic evolution, drawing from his early roots in UKF dubstep and electro to his refined sound as a melodic house and breakbeat producer. More than just an album, it’s a sonic memoir – balancing club functionality with emotional depth, and movement with meaning.
“This album is a love letter to Sydney,” says Blake.08. “It’s where I’ve moved through so many phases of life – as a kid, as an adult, as a creative. Without Sydney – the culture, the people, my family, the beaches, the harbour – I wouldn’t be the person I am today.” That emotional lens opens with the cinematic ‘F.A.S.H Attack’, featuring rising Australian vocalist Seduna. Its title is an acronym for Fear, Anger, Sadness and Happiness – the four core emotions that form the backbone of the album’s narrative. Blake’s goal throughout was to create music that doesn’t just move the body, but shapes the mood and stirs emotion – “like a soundtrack to a chapter in someone’s life,” he explains.
From there, the album traverses a wide sonic landscape. ‘The Change of Love’ – a warm, melodic anthem full of punchy synths and euphoric release – represents the emotional investment Blake pours into relationships, while the raw yet optimistic ‘I Can’t Hold On’ (featuring UK-born, Australia-based vocalist Nathan Ball) channels burnout and self-reflection into a soaring, cathartic anthem. ‘When The Beat’s All Done’ is a nod to the electro era that first drew Blake into dance music – complete with crunchy synths, nostalgic grooves, and a vocal sample chopped from deep within a forgotten sample pack.
The playful ‘Bass In The Area’, co-produced with Brazilian duo Claxy, is built on funk-heavy basslines and seductive Portuguese vocals, blending Blake’s percussive style with Claxy’s smooth, laid-back vibe. ‘Eyes Ablaze’ reimagines Blue Foundation’s classic ‘Eyes on Fire’ – a nostalgic favourite from Blake’s youth – and offers a moody, emotional break that first caught the attention of Anjunadeep, earning a place on the label’s flagship compilation. ‘Explorations’, a dreamy and arpeggiated instrumental, is named in tribute to Anjunadeep’s annual festival in Dhërmi, Albania – a life-changing experience for Blake as both a performer and fan. Its soft, glowing synths echo the wonder of connection and the joy of discovery.
Long-time fans will recognise ‘High Fidelity’, one of the earliest Blake.08 singles released through Anjunadeep and now remastered for the album. A sentimental favourite – especially to Blake’s mum – the track encapsulates the early foundations of his sound and growth as a producer. ‘Loser’s Pick’, a collaboration with Sydney artist and close friend Gaz (Zach Garrard), provides a moment of levity and fun – a reference to their late-night gaming sessions that turned into shared creative energy in the studio. ‘Restless’, co-produced with Soschi, leans into moody rhythms and off-kilter melodies, capturing a sense of unease and creative urgency that coloured much of Blake’s writing process.
With From Sydney With Love, Blake.08 delivers not only a standout debut for Anjunadeep, but a cohesive and heartfelt statement of artistic identity. Emotional, immersive, and full of craft, this album is a defining step forward for one of Australia’s most promising electronic voices.
To bring the album to life, Blake will embark on his first headline Australian tour, kicking off in late August and running through to the end of September.
