This August 8 and 10, multiple ARIA Award-winning rockers Gang of Youths will make their Sydney Opera House debut with two exhilarating nights in the Concert Hall, their first Australian shows in four years. The Sydney-born, London-based band will unveil new material alongside soaring favourites from their acclaimed catalogue.
Led by singer-songwriter David Le’aupepe, with drummer Donnie Borzestowski, guitarist and keyboardist Jung Kim and multi-instrumentalist Tom Hobden, Gang of Youths have become one of Australia’s most celebrated musical exports. Since emerging with their acclaimed debut The Positions (2017), they have amassed four ARIA Awards and appeared in 24 ARIA nomination categories, topped the Australian charts with Go Farther in Lightness (2017) and Angel in Realtime (2022) and earned Album of the Year honours at both the ARIA and J Awards. Renowned for their emotionally charged explorations of love, loss and identity and electrifying live shows, they have sold out venues worldwide and shared stages with some of rock’s biggest names, including Foo Fighters, Mumford & Sons and Sam Fender.
“There’s no place like home! We’re incredibly excited to be back, playing in Sydney, to finally play some new music in one of the most special venues in the world.” David Le’aupepe, Gang of Youths
Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music, Ben Marshall, said: “Praised for pairing crushingly intimate storytelling with monumental ambition, Gang of Youths have carved out a singular place in the Australian music landscape. They have a rare ability to make the deeply personal feel universal, transforming stories of personal grief, vulnerability and belonging into powerful moments of collective catharsis. After four years away from Australian stages, these performances promise a special and thrilling homecoming from one of the country’s most acclaimed live bands.”
